About the size of a hot dog. 3/4 inch roughly. I can poke bread balls through hole.

Can use in saltwater?

The minnow trap is dip coated in a plastic (Plastisol?) material and would be fine, short term in salt water. It's not good to leave it in the salt water for extended periods. Rinse it off with fresh water after use.
