Love this thermometer
This thermometer is very easy to shake down and read - just make sure you know to look at the correct side when you are reading it. I used it immediately to monitor the temp of my horse who had been given antibiotics for an infection. I like the string and clip. When the horse sneezed the thermometer stayed attached to his tail hairs instead of dropping to the ground. Love that it is glass and durable, no batteries to wear out. It comes with a case to keep it in after cleaning. Update: after one week of daily use a few times a day works great!

WORSE THAN A 1 RATING
I ordered this for my horses because my last remaining accurate mercury one finally bit the dust. This thing has a LARGE circumference which my TB found uncomfortable during insertion, even with KY Jelly. It is advertised as a horse thermometer along with dogs and cows and other animals. It ranges up to 110 degrees. It registered beyond 110 degrees the first time I used it, all the way to the end of the thermometer. I could not get it back down below 100 so I could try again. I even placed it in my armpit while I worked around the barn to try and get it down. I guess I should go to the ER, as I am apparently ON FIRE! at 110 degrees. I tossed it aside planning to send it back and my horse recovered from his infection soon after. I forgot about it until the other day when I had a horse with a hoof abscess and no working thermometer. I tried to shake, cold water, and arm pit this one again to get it down to a normal temp but it wouldn't budge. I ordered a different brand and it should come today but I missed my window to return this piece of trash, so all I can do is warn other people not to buy it.

No more batteries to fail!
When you need an accurate temperature, the last thing you need is to have to find and replace batteries. This thermometer works, does not contain mercury, and I find easy to read but simply rolling between my fingers under light. Much better than the digital battery option

Ok
It works, but to get the temp back down, shaking it is harder than a mercury one. And the green end comes off... which I rather have an end that doesn't separate

Unsafe gor horses
No attachment for safety string. Unsafe for horses

Fluid separated
Sorry to say that this thermometer worked for about 10 days, then the blue fluid inexplicably separated into two sections. No matter how long or hard I shook it, I could not get the upper half of the fluid to go back down. Just didn't budge, hence I had to return it. (I noticed that my vet used a digital one that gave the temp within seconds, different from my standing there for 3 minutes at my sick horse's tail.)
