Budget pedal that performs way above its price point.
This is a great pedal. The EQ helps scoop out my mids so the fuzz pedal doesn't make everything muddy sounding. Then on its own it packs a punch. This is a great budget pedal.

Love this distortion pedal.
I have looked at all of the Metal distortion pedals on the market. This Ultra Metal pedal works great. It does have the background white noise if you turn the level and gain all the way up, but unless you want to spend $150 on a pedal they all have the same noise. Dial it back a bit and the noise goes away and leaves you with a hard and heavy sound. I checked YouTube and looked at the videos comparing this pedal to its competitors and found that this pedal is as good as ones twice the price. It gives my guitar the exact sound I wanted and the high, mid, and low dials let you tweak it until you get the sound you are looking for. This pedal is perfect for the beginner the intermediate and the seasoned player. If you are a professional guitar player and need one with studio or stage quality sound then obviously you will need to drop a large stack of money and get something better. But if you are not a professional then this unit is perfect for practicing by yourself or with a band. In other words, if you are Dave Mustaine or Tony Iommi you will want the best made, but if you are just a regular guy or gal that enjoys playing metal this one pedal works GREAT.

A Excellent Introductory Pedal.
As someone who is just learning how to play the electric guitar I was getting frustrated by not being able to get that "metal crunch" that I wanted from my small practice amp. I looked up different pedals on Amazon and some other sites and came across the Behringer UM300 Ultra Metal Pedal and after reading some reviews and checking out some video demos of it in action on YouTube I decided to give it a shot. Personally I am very happy with this pedal and the results I have received. It combined the functionality of two of Behringer's other pedals (The heavy metal and super metal if my memory serves correctly)so you have control of the high, mid-range and low range frequencies which gives you a wide range of different metal style sounds to shape your sound with. This is a good low cost option for anyone like myself who is learning to play and isn't looking to dumping a truckload of money into expensive equipment until your skills get better with the instrument. One thing I would recommend however is getting the DC adapter as these pedals eat batteries quickly.

Incredible value for the money
Once upon a time, i was a beginning bass guitarist. I knew nothing about my instrument outside of the fact that it had strings, plugged in to an amp, and made noise when i plucked the strings. Like most beginners, i wanted to start playing so that I could emulate the sounds and styles of the favorite bands i grew up with. But before you run, you learn to walk. Before you walk you learn to crawl. And in the case of guitar, before you do anything cool, you endure lots and lots of boring and tedious practice. Generally speaking, this practice is often done through the single, one dimensional tone that your budget amp will allow. But time goes by, you get better and gradually you want to start experimenting with new sounds. Behringer excels at giving beginner and intermediate players quality equipment. And whether or not the pros will admit it, the sound quality of these clone units is certainly on par with more the more expensive older units of past generations. The UM300 provides a deep, biting rock metal distortion with several different eq functions to create a vast range of sounds and tones. While not as bright or metallic in tone as the HM300, nor a violent or brutal as the HD300, the UM300 excels as a happy medium between classic metal and modern rock metal sounds, with more customization options than the HD or HM combined. Id recommend this pedal to re create the guitar sounds made famous by bands like metallica, killswitch engage and disturbed. A few questions to answer; Yes it works well with bass. As a bassist who owns several Behringer pedals I would know. Yes, the housing is plastic. Its a hard plastic perfectly capable of withstanding normal practice usage. Those who gig professionally or are hard on equipment may want to opt for something with metal housing, though. No, you didnt get a defective unit. Battery life is virtually nonexistent in these pedals. The first time I ever played with one I had a nine volt battery installed it literally stopped working two hours later. I thought I had a defective unit until I tried another 9 volt battery. Yes, these pedals are an incredible deal at less than $30...

The battery connector broke off making my pedal completely useless, other than being a paper weight
I have an Ibanez JD9 Jet Driver OVERDRIVE distortion pedal. The battery connector broke off making my pedal completely useless, other than being a paper weight. For some unknown reason, I cannot use an AC adapter with it, nor with any of my pedals, so I rely on batteries. Any ideas on why that is??? I bought this as a replacement for the jet driver. Now I was unaware that this is a massive fuzz box, but sounds so awesome, including when down-tuning. My dad kindly enough fixed my Jet Driver pedal shortly after I got this one. Now I must say having the knobs for "drive" or (distortion) on my Jet Driver pedal, a little more than half way with the mid and tone knobs maxed, You get a very nice hard rock/heavy metal sound from the 80s. Combine that with this fuzz box and man you get one hell of an awesome combination. Running both at the same time does little however. But, wanting to do some serious leads stomp the jet driver. If you want to do some chuggin, the Ultra Metal will do you wonders. and the ease of use when switching between there is no "POP" sound, as I have noticed in some pedals. I highly recommend this pedal to anyone who Is looking for an awesome fuzz box. Please do note though that my particular Jet Driver is made completely out of strong metal, you could jump on it if you wanted to, provided you didn't jump on the knobs themselves. You might mess up your sound while playing -_- the Ultra Metal however, is made out of plastic, so caution may be advised. May not want to get too terribly crazy on it. Worst comes to worst I suppose you could take the lip off and cast a heavy duty one, but the one that is one there will work for most...Whom don't preform crazy firework acrobatics on their pedals.

Great distortion sound, with lots of white noise
I just received this pedal a couple hours ago, but i have played it enough already to know what should be expected of this pedal. I bought this one instead of the boss version since it saved me twenty bucks, and it's my first effect pedal. Overall, the distortion sounds amazing. It has lots of knobs for precise sound adjustment which is great because i have a low wattage amp and it used to be hard to get a deep sound out of it. You can adjust the distortion so it gives your guitar that heavy metal/ post grunge sound that everyone loves. In fact, the distortion can actually help you with hammer-ons because it picks up even the slightest sound your guitar makes. There is one small problem, though. The more you turn up the distortion, the more static or white noise it produces. However, while you actually play your guitar, it goes away, so it isn't too noticeable. If you are new to the world of guitar effect pedals, there are some things you should know. First of all, in order to hook this up to your amp, you will need a cable that goes from the pedal to the amp, in addition to a cable that goes from the guitar to the pedal. You will also either need a 9v battery or a DC power cord (sold separately) since the pedal needs its own power source. Also, Behringer pedals are basically cheap versions of other guitar effect pedals such as "Boss" pedals. If you are in fact a beginner, you are probably better off to start with one of these and buy an expensive one later on. So, like I said, this pedal produces a great filthy distortion sound. It does produce white noise when turned up too high, but other than that I think you will be quite satisfied by it.

Very good clone of Boss Metal Zone
After many years my trusty Boss Metal Zone pedal gave up. Wanted a similar replacement for extreme yet articulate grind and chug. I was open to new and different, so tried the joyo dark flame copy of the revv g4. Bleh! Not at all extreme OR articulate. Sent back (I did, however, LOVE the joyo splinter [clone of pro co fat rat])! Listened to this pedal vs the metal zone on some youtube comparisons. Sounded close so I thought, at 1/3 the price of a Boss, let’s try it. It is VERY close and dials in the same as the boss with ever so slightly different tweaks. A reasonable facsimile. The general difference that I CAN tell, small as it is: the Behringer is more “raspy”, where the Boss is more “sizzley”. That said, it’s a keeper. And what a bargain.

Really Happy So Far
I have a Digitech RP255 run to a Blackstar HT5 head. I paid extra to get a tube amp because I read they sound much better than solid states (I've had several solid states). I found the Digitech colored the sound no matter what I did. I couldn't get a true Blackstar clean unless I went to 'Bypass', which then I wouldn't be able to add single effects. I'm sure it's capable of doing what I want, but I don't want to go through the hassle. Thank God for single pedals! This distortion pedal is actually quite nice. It does HEAVY metal really good. I haven't played with it too much yet but I can say it will do Metallica, Pantera, Sepultura and White Zombie type stuff with ease. The 4 band EQ is nice, lots of sounds in this pedal. I'm glad that there is something that sounds this good that doesn't cost a fortune. I'm done with the Digitech pedal, simple is better. As far as everyone crying about it being plastic, It's $25, get over it. If you want a metal housing then spend $50+ more on a Boss. Also, they might be called 'Stomp Boxes', but you don't have to actually stomp on it, a tap of your foot is plenty to turn it on.
