I don't think it was leaking from the inside of the stone jar - the rubber stopper at the top is really hard to remove - but more that something had leaked on it from the outside. That being said, there was no residue in or on the bubble wrapped bag it was packed in so it must have been packaged that way. That's a shame given the premium price of the mustard. Fortunately it all washed off easily under hot water. So far I have tried this with hot italian sausage and ham sandwiches and it's worked well. It's the perfect amount of spice that doesn't overpower what you're eating unless you douse it in the mustard. I'd also use it to dip pretzels in. I am, for sure, going to be ordering some more.
