Ran over broken glass bottles and not a flat in 5 months of riding.
I've been riding on these tires since May and I have yet to have a problem with flats. These 38mm are a perfect medium for urban roads, hard packed dirt, and gravel. Anything heavier than light gravel and they start washing out and slipping in steep climbs. If you encounter more dirt than pavement you should look elsewhere for more mountain-ready tires. However, I use these tires primarily for city riding and light dirt trails and these tires are amazing. I have literally rolled over broken bottles in the street and explosively shatter them with the impact and there aren't even any bits of glass embedded in the tires. I've taken these tires on day-long rides through San Francisco and Oakland and it's a nice peace of mind to confidently roll through glass and not have to swerve into the car lane to preserve tires. To underline the toughness of the tire, the seam where the two sides of the tires are mated together that runs on the center of the tire has yet to wear down. A little strip of rubber that generally wears off in the first few weeks of riding is still proudly present on these tires. The downside is that these tires are heavy and stiff, if you're concerned about that sort of thing. But I doubt you're a weight weenie and more of a person looking for a reliable tire that will last and looking for peace of mind when riding in dicey pavement conditions on your way to work. These are a steal at twice the price. Think about it, how often are you digging glass out of your tires and changing tubes when you're en route and in a time crunch? Get these tires.

Great E-bike replacement
Quality and look great with reflective stripe. Far superior to the originals on my e-bike which were causing several flats. Installed by my bike shop with a minor tuneup so I can't say how difficult this would be by yourself. They are thick and stiff.

These are really great tires but we're for me.
These are really great tires but we're for me. They are solid, great tread, puncture resistant, etc, etc. They are harder to install and the weigh a bit more. It's the installing and weight that had me go with something else but I'd recommend them easily if those two issues aren't an issue for you.

Not "flat-less", but a good tire nonetheless.....
First flat 732 miles in. Picked up a glass shard (and honestly not a very big one see photo). Still 4 stars because the tires roll great, handle well, and I would have had many more flats on previous tires. Great tires, just don't buy into the "flat-less" claims.

I had no trouble mounting these tires and they fit perfectly.
I have read reviews from folks that have had issues mounting these Marathon Plus tires. They differ from cheaper tires because they have a wire bead and therefore the circle (the inside diameter of the tire) will not give, nor should it. That design feature is likely what gives these tires their outstanding wear qualities. Nonetheless, I was able to mount these tires with no tire tools, no lubricant, no anything except a little thumb pressure on the bead. Here are some tips: 1) Before mounting anything after old tire removal, make sure your spoke buffer strip is intact and clean, and that the valve hole is aligned with the receptacle in the wheel rim. Make sure your rim is more or less clean and free of burrs. 2) I recommend using a new tube (you might as well, you have the wheel off) especially a previously patched tube. Make sure your tube and tire correspond in size. You can successfully mount a smaller radius tube but inflation will make its walls thinner than its design and weaker, we want tough. Use the correct tube. 3)Inflate your tube just a bit to make it easy to manage but not too much or it won't all fit easily in the tube cavity of the tire. Physics and all. 4) Take the time to line up the valve stem. It's worth the extra bit of fiddling to make sure it's properly aligned. Things work best that way. 5) Make sure the tube is seated all the way up into its cavity, that way it's not floating around frustrating your efforts to seat the bead. I think this is where a lot of frustration is generated. Air it up a bit and get it up in there and out of your way. 6. Take your time and gently seat the bead. It should be easy with hand/thumb pressure. If it's not fairly easy, something is binding, not aligned, the wrong size, etc. Honestly they didn't manufacture this tire to frustrate you, they made it to fit a wheel rim, it should fit snuggly but it really should not be a mega-struggle to get this on there. Check your work if you are having trouble. 7. Have fun on your new tires. I was laughing because I installed these hundred dollar tires on my $45 clearance pile Wal Mart bike that I ride to the train station or to get groceries. I kept picking up goat-heads (a thorny seed contraption found out west here, I'm in Utah) so I found the skinny on these tires. I mean, I'm no bike snob, but the flats were getting pretty annoying, I was patching tubes a couple times a week. I'd say I'll update this review when I find out how puncture resistant they are, but we all know that's a lie. Let me just say that these are not run-of-the-mill cheap bicycle tires just slapped on a cheap bike. These tires obviously have some engineering and material science backing them up, and the fit and finish is nothing short of amazing. Right now I have zero regrets for the purchase. On top of that, they look fantastic. Happy cycling, friends!

So far, AWESOME
Update as of 5/31/2026, I have now put almost 2,500 miles on these tires with zero issues. With the heavy-duty tubes, I seldom am required to add air. I check every couple of weeks and when there is a substantial temperature change, otherwise I jump on and ride. Will definitely purchase again! I will revisit this review and update in the future. I have put 300+ miles on these tires with no issues. I ordered the 700c x 38 and heavy-duty tubes, installation was simple and went on the wheels without anything but my hands. Follow the instructions (u Tube) that are mentioned in other reviews. I spent the first several rides playing with tire pressures, I believe I found a sweet spot with 51 psi rear and 46 psi front. Firm but comfortable!!!! For reference, I am 6'0" and weight 196 lbs. I have only ridden on pavement but plan to ride some of the gravel trails in the near future. I typically ride 15-35 miles per ride and am able to maintain a 15 to 18 mph average based on good wind direction and level road.

Excellent flat protection, low rolling resistance. There is nothing better!
These tires are awesome!!! If you have a 29er, and you mainly ride on pavement, then this is the best there is. The high inflation psi of 85 makes them roll very fast. My bike feels like a road bike. UPDATE: I track my miles using a Cateye Padrone bicycle computer, and I just recently rolled over 6,000 miles on this same set of tires without a single flat! I ride through city daily and I know I have ran over glass many times. I can see that the back tire is getting bald, and the blue Kevlar layer is showing through in one place measuring about 3/4". I feel like these tires might easily make another 2 or 3 thousand miles, and I will ride them close to failure to give a good review of the life of these tires. I will upload pictures soon. UPDATE: 6/22/18 At mile 6.835, I got a flat on the rear tire. To make sure I give the best review possible, I removed the flat tube and inflated it to find where the air was escaping to see if it was indeed a puncture, or if the tube failed. Also I ALWAYS without fail keep my tires at the recommended pressure. When terrine the tube, it indeed had a puncture. I checked the tire to make sure the cause of the puncture was not there and I installed a new tube. I think 6,835 miles without a flat is absolutely incredible. I will probably never use any other tire. I plan on running these tires until they fail, and I will update again later.

Darn Tough!
I purchased these tires for use on my cross country bike tour on the Northern Tier in the summer of 2024. Remarkably, through 4,600 miles of riding from Anacortes, WA to Bar Harbor, ME, I only experienced one (1) flat! The tires looked nearly new when I finished. I’ll be using these same tires when I ride the PCH in 2026. Highly Recommend!!
