Wild at Home: How to style and care for beautiful plants

This book is full of helpful tips for styling and caring for indoor plants. The photos are beautiful, and the advice is easy to follow, making it perfect for both beginners and experienced plant lovers.

I am in love with the plant styling of Hilton Carter's Baltimore home. What sets his home and plants apart from all the rest is he has arranged the plants in much the same way as an artist composes a painting or as an interior designer puts her vision into a room. Hilton is first an artist, a designer and creates beautifully curated spaces filled with plants in a non- cluttered way. His home is filled with life and warmth. I pre-ordered Hilton Carter's, Wild at Home book the first day it became available of Amazon. For several years I've been following Hilton's Instagram feed, it's my very favorite feed on Instagram. I don't remember anymore how I first came across his work with plants, perhaps he mentioned Terrain or Terrain mention him. What I do know is Terrain in Glen Mills is one of my favorite places, it's a garden store and cafe, filled with plants that are so well curated and styled and a delight to all your senses. Soft music plays, candles are burning, there's usually a fire pit burning outside, it's a fabulous example of 'Scandinavian hygge.' This same magical atmosphere is what Hilton has created and shared in his new book. And you can create it too in your home. I received my copy of Wild at Home, and started reading it that day and the next day. It's filled with so many helpful tips on plant care and even a section on making a plant hammock or a lamp terrarium! It's an easy read and a great reference book for plant care. The book is full in inspirational photographs from Hilton's home and also from some of his friends homes he has styled with plants. I have the feeling that this might just be the first of many books the Hilton will create. I highly recommend this book (it's a 10!) to anyone who wants to care for their green friends in the best possible way. I look forward to many other books from Hilton and maybe even a coffee table book!

I’ve been following Hilton Carter on Instagram for a while now. It seems everywhere you look Houseplant books are popping up which can make it hard to distinguish one from another. (As a self proclaimed plant book hoarder they can be a lot of the same.) What I really loved and felt Hilton hit head on was the propagation information and lighting. There is a section of his book explaining light exposure and window direction. BRILLIANT. We all know southern windows are bright but it’s nice to have a quick reference for those pesky northern or northwestern windows. One thing Hilton is known for aside from his FLFs is his propitiation station. He easily explains the best way to propigate, and easy how-to steps. The rooting time chart is also a major bonus I haven’t seen included in other books. If you’re new to plants, this is a great book to learn the basics and dip your fingers into other areas of houseplant care. Beautiful photographs, helpful information, overall awesome book.

I wasn't sure about this book because some complained that few of us could afford the types of homes depicted, but I'm so happy I bought it, because I'll refer to this book again and again. While it's true that such homes may be beyond the reach of many, there's no reason why you can't draw inspiration from the beautiful photos and apply them to your tiny, humble abode. The colorful photos are more beautiful with book in hand than the quick review via the Look Inside feature. It's packed with photos of plants, pots, and design ideas that incorporate art, textiles, plants, and more. It also provides some basic info on plant care and propagation, although I would say that the main purpose of the book is inspirational and aspirational photos. I love this book.

A very nice book on plants and styling with plants. My only issue with this book is it’s full of grammatical errors page after page! He could have really used an editor to give this book the presentation it deserves. It reads as if a middle schooler wrote it which makes me sad because I am a big fan of his posts on instagram. Aside from this, I love the content and the beautiful pictures. The paper is cheap and not glossy making the beautiful images appear over saturated.

I follow Hilton Carter on Instagram and was beyond excited to finally receive a copy of his book. The book is everything I imagined it would be. The photographs are incredible and you truly feel as if you are a guest in Hilton's home. The book is very easy to follow and offers fantastic tips that any plant lover can appreciate! As difficult as it is to admit, I have been purchasing plants for all the wrong reasons- selfish reasons (because they were unique or came in a really rad pot). The book has taught me how to go about finding plants that will truly thrive in the space I am looking to fill with their leaves & love. It was also really awesome to see homes of friends, that Hilton has helped to style. He an his wife are very lucky to have, what every plant-lover dreams about- large windows with lots of light! (Yes, I am very jealous!) It was great so see plants in other homes that have less light and unique spaces. Well done Hilton!! I just purchased 2 more copies of Wild at Home to give as gifts for Mother's Day!

You must, absolutely MUST buy this book. The author takes you on a plant journey but helps you to understand and discover the meaning of plant styling and care. Makes an awesome gift for a recent retiree or anyone who enjoys plants and inspiration. Great book!! 🤗

For those reviewers that left a negative review, I think what most of them have in common is they thought this would be a “how to” book. I would describe it more of a home tour featuring the most incredible indoor jungle you will probably ever see. In addition, there are tidbits of advice on plant care and decorating ideas all throughout. Some have said that since they don’t live in a loft they couldn’t see any value in the book. To me, it doesn’t matter if I live in similar home or not, it gave me ideas and inspiration that I could customize to fit MY living space. The author has an upbeat personality that shines through in his writing style, which I enjoyed.

WHY HAVE THIS BOOK: Good for beginners, very beautifully written and very simple to understand. Amazing images and very well instructed steps to go about various things if you are a plant lover in an urban space. WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS BOOK: If your a more of a forest and community garden person WHAT ELSE YOU GET WITH THIS BOOK: The image quality and composition is worthy enough to be a coffee table book for your guest to go through. I love the fact, it is written so well, I will love to read the book, again and again, so many tips and tricks to take from the book. Do follow the guy on youtube to get one on one with him.

I saw this originally in a book shop and then decided to buy it! A wonderful book for those that love indoor plants and a very useful guide for someone to use to assist them in transforming a room or home! I still keep delving in and finding more things I missed previously....and the photos are wonderful!!

Fabulous cute little resource book! Exciting & inspiring pictures, directional & informative text. Easy reading (kinda conversational). Written with passion, flair, personality & addiction. This is a well thought out book, offering informative action. I enjoyed it!

If you are a plant parent who loves home decor you will love this book!! Hilton Carter is a plant genius to begin with, this books is beautiful and informative and makes amazing coffee table decor. I would highly recommend!!
