Mine only has 6 gears, not 8. and they're not as complex as the ones picture. did i get the wrong one?

Mine only came with 6. I should've paid more attention to the description, which explicitly states that it comes with one battery-powered gear and 5 interlocking gears. Still a good deal though!

What is truly the most appropriate age for this toy?

We have this toy, got it when our kids were 2 & 4. They love it!! That said, my husband was playing with it tonight well after the kids went to bed. So it's popular with all ages ;)

Are there add-on sets?

I have not seen an Add-On Set for these magnets. However, we can certainly write to the maker of these very creative magnets and give them suggestions to create one. We have one on our refrigerator and our children love to move it around and see which way they will go.

Amazing toy

Amazing toy. I have just bought second set, to have more cogs moving together. :) My daughter is 11mo and loves it. But only when she is older she will enojy it even more. Only thing I don't get why spread of prices on Amazon is so big. I bought cheap ones for 20, and they seem to be OK :)

Tolles Gimmick schon für die Kleinsten

Wer keine Angst um seinen Kühlschrank hat (Kratzergefahr) oder vielleicht ohnehin mit Magnettafeln 'arbeitet', dem sei dieses Magneteset wärmstens empfohlen. Ist in Bewegung einfach toll anzuschauen und schon für die jüngsten ist das Hantieren damit ein großer Spaß.
