You do need them a little tight as once you are in water, your feet shrink and loose shoes will fall off. I wore these to Orlando Discovery Cove, one of only a handful of people on the day who had thought to buy water shoes. I could have sold these for ten times the price, as people soon discovered (no pun intended) that the sharp rocks in the natural lagoons could cut bare feet. If you plan on going snorkelling/swimming/diving into coral reefs or such like, then these shoes are essential. I love these shoes and will pack them for my next trip.
