(I guess it's called a "house dress" but I always just called mine a robe, because I wear it over pajamas when I get up). I usually wear a medium or large t-shirt, depending on how they're made. I usually buy large when I'm buying nightwear, because I like it a little roomier. Based on the reviews, I bought an X-large of this, and I'm glad I did. It fits like my old robe (which was a large, I'm pretty sure). If it fit any smaller, it wouldn't be comfortable. So definitely buy a size up.It's a very pretty, feminine garment, and doesn't look frumpy at all (another reason I call mine a robe instead of a house dress, I guess, is my grandmother used to wear "house dresses" which were day wear and they were pretty frumpy looking). The fabric, while thin, is kind of stiff, so hopefully it won't be when I wash it a couple of times. It does have little eyelet holes all over, as part of the design, so you definitely want to wear something under it (or maybe you don't, lol).The only thing I'd change in addition to the sizing is I wish it had snaps instead of buttons. My old one did have snaps, and it was so easy to get off and on.
