After searching the local hardware/home stores to no avail, Amazon once again proves the place to find anything and everything. The threaded studs on these are M8-1.25 which is a standard metric coarse thread (8mm = 0.3149") which is close to a 5/16-18 thread size just for reference. Since these were the exact thread size I needed, they screwed right in and I tightened them with a crescent wrench. Simple. The wheels appear to be high density rubber and very strong, the wheel frames are formed sheet metal and VERY rigid. Ball-bearings for swivels and two come with brakes. The axles are steel bolts with self-locking nuts. My computer desk with all my stuff on it now glides around the house as if it was on air whether on carpet or hard flooring. Easy to position into tight spaces and then locks down for a stable platform once positioned where you want it. Very happy with this purchase and this product. Highly recommend for anyone struggling with crummy plastic wheels. For the price these could not be beat even after hunting and comparing on eBay. Casters, even small ones are routinely at least $5 a piece. My husband built a welded steel cart for our large, heavy printer and used these as the casters. They work great and look nice. The locking feature is a bonus that may not be needed for some folks. Lastly, having wheels which are bolted in, rather than having a stamped in non-removable bolt, also allows for wheel changes in the future if ever needed. Also consider that stem casters compared to plate casters are less work to install as plate casters require 4 bolts or 4 screws per wheel. The nuts at the bottom of the threaded shaft also keep the wheels from hitting the support plate which is an issue for metal but can be overcome with a countersink if using wood stretchers.
