Review of "Paul Evans: Designer & Sculptor" by Jeffery Head
The bio on Paul Evans is interesting. I think anyone interested in Evans designs, background and techniques will find this an informative book. The pictures are wonderful.

well kept secret, which should not be!
File this under "You learn somethin' new everyday." And am I ever glad that I did. It turns out Paul Evans was a metal worker of quite significant talent. So much talent that metal working was not the extent of his skills. I never thought I was much of a fan of 1960s furniture, with the exception of Scandinavian, but I have changed my mind. Turns out that Mr. Evans designed some very exceptional and noteworthy furniture in the 1960s. Of course as a child I would not have been impressed, but as an adult impressed would be an understatement. His metal working and sculpting talents were used for some very high end furniture. I am surprised the set designers for Mad Men have not taken notice for the office scenes. Paul apparently was not afraid to experiment with different materials and mediums. A collector and dealer today says that Evans' work is heavy: relating to price, 5 figures, and weight. Six hundred pound table bases and metal hanging cabinets. Not sheet metal, either. I would be afraid to display any of his sculptures having a nine year old son. I would probably have a walk in account at the local ER room at the hospital. Pretty, but certainly not OSHA approved. Great book on quite a talent. Worth your while.
