My cats really do love this gel. I'm not sure how well it works for hairballs, but since it has no petroleum jelly I think it's worth trying. I have 2 DMH hair cats & a DSH. My DSH has hairballs that he's struggling to cough up, so I wanted to try this gel. It is a nice consistency, doesn't smell awful bad & my cats enjoy eating it so there's no mess in applying it to their fur. *UPDATE* April 12, 2015 I wanted to write an update to say this stuff does work. One of my cats has been coughing, but not able to produce a hairball--but when he eats this stuff he doesn't cough as bad & a hairball actually came up! The other cat has been 'passing' hair, which I am at least glad it is coming out. My cats are happier & eat this stuff right out of the tube! It's a great way to get cats to groom each other too! *UPDATE* November 15, 2015 Here is my updated review. So far I have 3 cats who I use this on. It's more of a touch & go, literally. I have to put a drop on the paw before my cat runs off acting like I touched him with something disgusting... The other cat does enjoy the Salmon flavor & I have no problems getting him to lick it right out of the tube. My cat still struggles with hairballs occasionally. I so much prefer this one over the petroleum version, simply because it seems more natural to me than petroleum. I do have the petroleum version as well, because the vet recommended it, although I am on the fence so to speak about using it as often as I would this one.

4/4 cats went Bonkers for this! Chased me around the house helped 1 troubled kitty immensely!
All of our 4 kitties are rescues. One super fluffy kitty is shy & struggles with stress grooming & gets huge hair balls. She was lethargic, not eating well, hiding, looking vacant in the eyes like not feeling well (has kidney disease). She’s got medium fur length, but sheds. I ordered this & Cat-Lax, & all 4 kitties LOVED this, stalked me like CRAZY when I pick up tube! Her belly had gotten very distended & tight, I was worried about her developing a serious hair ball obstruction vs kidney problems & ordered this to try to get things moving. I gave her 3-4 little doses a dayspread out, & over a few days she kept lapping it up more. Soon she was starting to eat food more, her belly distention decreased massively & she lost about half a pound (only 9lb cat). She perked up & even came out of hiding! She’s a senior kitty, & had I just assumed she was getting older, we could’ve been in trouble. I highly recommend for any cat with fur! ESPECIALLY stress groomers, anxious kitties, long haired: frequent shedders. Not one of the kitties liked the salmon oil I tried on them, in fact even the kitten tried to “cover it” like it was poop! Doing Subscribe & save this one for sure!! Update 4/3/20- Tried to reorder to sneak in nitenpyram flea powder, it’s great for that! this is STILL the #1 favorite in 4/4 cats. I’ve given them different brands- malt, salmon, regular. Twice recently I gave it as cold weather’s gone and shedding comes in spring and summer more, and couple hours after, 2 cats puked up super large fur balls, one was extremely compacted. Both of them picked up on eating, energy and playfulness within hours after- more tummy room means better appetite, better energy!!

Cat likes it and it works! - Well, they are now doing their best!
I have a very finicky cat who has issues with vomiting and hairballs. I was looking for something chicken-flavoured because chicken is something she has difficulty resisting. She LOVES this and will even "ask for it". I keep it on my desk and she will jump up and knock the tube over to let me know "it's time". When we use it regularly, she doesn't typically have any issues with hairballs or vomiting. My cat is a Ragdoll, very thick and long fur so she NEEDS it! I was even happier that this doesn't contain petroleum product and that it is MADE IN THE U.S.A. I'm glad that it is available and cheaper on Amazon. ***UPDATE*** 09/23/22 ADJUSTED from 5 STARS, to 1 STAR After using this product for years, the packaging has changed, no biggie, right? WRONG! It has become thicker in consistency - hard to squeeze out of tube! The odor is hideous and most importantly, my cat will NOT eat this. I attempted to contact the company, via their website (twice) and their Facebook page. They don't respond. My long-haired cat needs a new product pronto! ***UPDATE 09/26/22**** Adjusted from 1 star to 4 I received correspondence from the company stating that they were having MAJOR supply chain issues - with the inactive ingredients. Although the active ingredients haven't changed, due to availability, they had to change inactive ingredients. Since everyone is having supply chain issues and employee issues since Covid, I really have to sympathize with the company and they offered a refund on purchased product. They, like so many others, are doing their best. In normal times, their product was stellar - for years! They are doing their best, and hopefully when ingredient availability returns to normal, so can their product. I've asked them to let me know when they can manufacture the original formula again. The ORIGINAL formula was and IS the only thing my cat will touch!

Inconsistent quality / product
We've been using this product for a few months now. I'm not exactly sure how the product is intended to prevent or eliminate hairballs. In our case, with a long hair cat, it has not accomplished this goal. I will say that I have noticed a change in my cat's coat since we started to use it. Her fur is softer and appears more healthy to me. The frequency of hairballs has been reduced only slightly. We had no trouble getting her eat the product, in fact she loved it in the beginning, and until the most recent batch would come back looking for more. However, we have experienced what I consider to be quality control issues. My last order of 10 tubes, had 8 that were bloated and under pressure. When I removed the seal from the tube, they would spray their contents all over myself and the surrounding area. I also felt the product had an unusually strong odor. That maybe because I wasn't use to wearing it. Six of these tubes were returned to Amazon and replacements provided. (Thank You) After finishing the two non bloated tubes from the prior order, I opened my first replacement tube this week. The product appears creamier than before and has a lighter color. And while I'm pleased report that I cannot detect any odor from the product at all, my cat has Zero interest in this latest batch. She literally sniffs it, turns up her nose and walks away. I tried a second replacement tube and found it to be the same. The lack of odor maybe to blame. I can't tell if the change in the product was intended or the result of a failure in quality control. I would love to get the manufacturer's input. Since my cat isn't interested in eating the current product, I'm going to have to return the replacement tubes and look for another solution. Sorry.

Great if opened soon. Bad if you want to save it for later.
TLDR: Contents gain pressure after a week/two. Will pop out the back of the container. Open once you get it. Works great for kitty hairballs!! So my story is that my cat is picky along with a mountain of allergies and issues throwing up hairballs (sometimes they come out.. sometimes they don't.. poor girl). The Good: I tried about 5 different hairball products and most she would enjoy for a couple days but then lose interest. At least until I found this one. I noticed it's effects after a couple of days. She still gets hairballs, but she also has a major allergy issue which makes her want to lick her fur down to the skin in certain spots so this stuff has helped a ton in the hairball department. She liked the taste and it appeared to work just as I was hoping. She stopped having hairball issues and I was thrilled. I decided to buy another chicken and their salmon flavored one since I know my kitty enjoys salmon/sea food. That's where things started to go a little wrong. The Bad: After finishing the first chicken one I went and opened the salmon one only to notice while squeezing the tube that contents were spilling out the back of the tube.. I didn't know how long it the seal on the back of the tube was open for and I decided not to risk it and tossed it. I decided to stick with chicken and ordered 2 more to have ready since I know it works and helps my girl with her hairballs. I received the order and placed them on the bottom shelve of the pantry. A few weeks later and I noticed that the tubes were far more pressurized than when I received them. At that point I understood why the salmon one was the back seal broken.. It popped most likely. Thinking they might pop like the salmon one I decided to open them and keep them in the fridge for storage until needed. Well the first one I lost about 80% of the product cause it just kept coming out after being opened. The second one was about 30% since I tried to make most of the contents be at the bottom before opening. It was crazy and does suck. I'm not certain what causes the pressure to build up. My conclusion is.. This is a great product if opened upon arrival. It performs the task for my kitty without issue. Just don't plan to store this stuff for even a month without opening it. Lesson learned. For the manufactures. I hope that this helps with figuring out this issue. Don't want to see others suffer the same fate as I have. Maybe a warning on the product page to open within x days of delivery.

Both of our finicky cats eat this straight from the tube!
We all know that cats are finicky. However BOTH of our cats love this (chicken flavor)!! That has never happened before. Either they both hated it or only one would tolerate it! I have one cat that has to have a pill every day. Since he knows that I'll give him this hairball treatment after his pill he now RUNS to me when I shake the pill bottle! Both of our cats are long-hair breeds but he's also got very thick long hair. I've now subscribed to this monthly which allows a discount but I would buy this at twice the price (shhh... don't tell the company). Both of our cats lick it straight from the tube. It's important to note that hairball treatments are never a substitute for brushing a long-hair cat. However, even with brushing most cats will "blow their coats" twice a year with seasonal changes and you're always going to have to deal with hairballs and this has resulted a lot less of them. Because of COVID19 they are having shipment problems and I'm so glad that I had extra because of my subscription and the fact that the tube lasts longer than I expected. I only use it once a day. Directions say to use it once or twice a day. Hopefully their supply chain issue will only be temporary.

So far so good!!
I'm feeling like the luckiest person on earth because my cat LOVES this stuff and it appears to be working!!! I for one am very glad there is no fish in the formula because my cat breaks out with a skin rash when she eats fish. I started her on the remedy Friday morning and today is Tuesday and she has not had a single hairball incident. She was hacking up a hairball about four nights a week so to go four days without one is pretty encouraging. Kiki is a fluff ball cat - in all respects a Norwegian Forest Cat (or as she would have us believe - a Magical Norwegian Forest Creature), with acres of long soft fur. I comb and/or Furminate her three or more times a week but she usually gets mad after only a few minutes of grooming and no way am I allowed near the belly where her fur is even thicker. She keeps herself very clean and her fur is healthy and silky but the hairballs were out of control. Since she's not much into being groomed and I have no access to a pro who could shave all that fur off, a hairball remedy was my only hope. I am beyond happy that she readily eats some every morning and that it appears to be solving our problem. UPDATE - cat has lost interest in the gel so now I hide some in her food every morning. I don't know how much is being consumed since she rarely eats all of what she gets, but the hairball incidents have dropped significantly so I'm thinking it's still working.

UPDATE TO MY REVIEW OF 3/5 -- NUTRI-VET WORKING TO CORRECT PROBLEM
On 3/5/11, I left a one-star rating for this product (see review below), but now want to amend that. After sending an e-mail through their company website detailing my complaint [...], I not only received an e-mail from Chuck Francis, the President of the company, but also a phone call from Dr. Brown, the Sr. Vice President of Research/Development (who is a veterinarian). They were both very apologetic and appreciative that this problem had been brought to their attention. Mr. Francis stated that his top priority at that point was figuring out what had happened and correcting the problem. Dr. Brown called later and explained what had happened. Nutri-Vet had switched manufacturers. (The formula is developed by Nutri-Vet, but they outsource the manufacturing of this product.) This is the way I understand it: The new manufacturer, although following the formula provided by Nutri-Vet, must have been using ingredients supplied by different vendors, which would account for the change in consistency (and possibly flavor). They both assured me they are committed to resolving this issue and Dr. Brown stated that they are working with the new manufacturer to see that this product returns to the great consistency and flavor that it was originally. They promised to let me know as soon as this happens so that I can buy some more and make my cat, Leroy, happy once again. [...] Am now giving five stars based on the original salmon-flavored product, which Leroy went crazy over, and also based on this company's responsiveness and outstanding customer service. [...] Original 1-star review of 3/5: One of my cats (Leroy) was crazy about this product -- it was the only thing he liked as a "treat." Pet stores in my area quit carrying it, so I ordered three tubes through Amazon. They were great -- no problem. Leroy was happy. Then I ordered another three tubes through Amazon, and, even though the outside packaging was the same, the product itself was totally different. Different consistency -- took two hands to force it out of the tube! Leroy licked at it two or three times, then turned his nose up at it, so apparently different taste also. I then contacted the company through their website. They responded right away saying that it had been reformulated. The original formula had been salmon and they had switched to chicken flavor. However, they said that they had listened to their customers (all complaining) and had brought back the salmon flavor. With that, I went ahead and ordered another three tubes of salmon flavor through them (Nutri-Vet). Needless-to-say, Leroy was again disappointed. They neglected to tell me that it had still been reformulated so the consistency was very hard and it was almost impossible to get out of the tube. Once I got a little bit of it on my finger, Leroy again licked it once or twice and then gave up. I'm approximately $60 poorer and now trying to find something else that Leroy would like.

High quality ingredients and Salmon flavoured
My cat has been given a great start in life, from early vet visits to quality kitten food to give her the best start in life. (lots of Hooman love too) So when it came to a hairball treatment, we picked this brand, "Nuti•Vet", because of the choice of Ingredients and flavour options. We first tried Chicken as that is one of her and her brothers favourite flavors, but she would not have anything to do with it. Her brother loved the chicken buy the way. Our vet was kind enough to let us try other brands they use, to see if she would react favorably, but LeSalon, Sentry, Hartz and Tomlyn did not interest her in any way. Then we ordered the Salmon flavor hoping it would maybe interest her through smell, and she instantly licked the paste from the tube. Happy she enjoys this one, better for her and safe on her system. If you have a finicky eater, that does like Salmon, this could be the perfect choice for you. Check out the ingredients in the other brands, non are as good as this one overall. It's the best choice in our eyes, hope it's yours for your fur baby.

Cats fav
It’s the only cat ball paste my cat likes. It’s like a thick wet food not a molasses paste. Although this kind is hard to find.

Great!
Good product! It’s the hairball treatment that my cat enjoys best and it’s much easier to apply than other more gel like ones. Was back ordered when I purchased, but it arrived quickly once it was back in stock
