Wow! I didn't expect for this to be so much hay. I mean, I realize it is fifty pounds, but I keep taking hay out of the box (which is contained in a heavy duty plastic bag inside the box-which I appreciate). It seems the more that I take out, the more that is in the box. Definitely a great value. Some of the strands are long, but I just sort of fold it over and put into my rabbits' box. They don't mind that it is not cut short. There is a mixture of rougher and softer hays, but they love it, so the consistency is fine with me. The smaller cuts usually fall to the bottom, so I just gather it to put in their nesting box because it is softer for bedding. Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase. I am not sure that I will purchase fifty pounds in the future - only because I have limited storage space for it. But I will continue to purchase this same brand - maybe in a thirty pound option. :)

Quality was great. Hay is fresh and smells great. It comes in a plastic bag inside a large box, similar to a bale but not chopped into tiny pieces. I prefer it this way because there is much less dust and waste. However, the cut of the hay is coarse and hard like first cutting and my rabbit won’t eat it.

I have been purchasing from this brand for years. This has been a lifesaver and a cost effective way for me to feed 4 rabbits! I’ve been saving by buying in bulk. The hay is good quality and depending on the season, sometimes the hay will be softer and less crunchy. My rabbits eat both, they are just happy to have it. It smells nice and is fresh. I do keep the box outside and closed since I have a bit of allergies to the hay and I do recommend sorting like the directions state but most of the time, I don’t and still happy with results.

I have purchased the 25 lb bulk box of this hay on 3 separate occasions. The first 2 boxes of hay were good quality hay with seedheads and fine soft blades of grass that my guinea pigs loved. I have never had an issue with freshness. It always arrives slightly green and smells delicious when opened. Obviously, with hay, there have been a few stems but overall, the guinea pigs would eat every bit that was put in their cage. The numerous grass blades throughout the hay have been soft and tender. This last box, although fresh, was mostly long hard stalks and seedheads. The guinea pigs love the seedheads, but the stalks are hard. There are very few actual blades of grass. The quality and texture is very poor compared to the boxes I have ordered in the past. After giving my guinea pigs a chance to eat it and seeing how much waste I had, I contacted Oxbow. I was told that since I ordered this through Amazon and that Amazon is "not a licensed vendor of theirs", that they could do nothing about it. The rationale was that they couldn't guarantee what hay I received or the freshness. I told the representative that the hay is in the original Oxbow packaging and the issue I had was nothing to do with freshness...it was the actual quality of the hay that had been packed. I assumed that Oxbow hay is second or third cut hay, but after my discussion with her I looked on their website and on the box of hay that I received and there is no information on there pertaining to whether it is first cut, second cut, etc. It does say that it is "hand sorted", but beware that there is no guarantee that you will get a good grass hay that your guinea pigs will eat. They say that the hay is inspected and graded. They do have a disclaimer that in a bulk package, there may be portions within the interior of the hay that are not good quality. However, this entire box is consistently inferior to the other boxes I have purchased, which leads me to question their "grading" process. Ordering bulk is still more economical if you have a place to store it. However, I have lost money this time and I am very disappointed in Oxbow. I am going to try another brand of hay next time that guarantees either 2nd or 3rd cut hay. This box has pretty much been a waste. I have even tried feeding the stalks that the guinea pigs won't touch to our herd of goats and they are not interested in it either. Yikes!

Rabbit tears this stuff up and you get so much of it. Found a twig here and there but she likes to chew on those too so they are like little treats for her

this was a great buy for me. bought it to avoid having to buy tiny packages of hay all the time for my 4 pigs. the hay was really fresh and not hard at all, and my pigs loved eating it. it was really breakable and didn't keep shape when i picked up chunks to give to my pigs. my only gripe with this was that the cardboard box was terribly kept and appeared ripped and torn all over the place. whether this was an amazon thing or a seller thing is unimportant to me. the box had a plastic liner in it so the hay didn't spill out anyway, but after opening it sometimes hay would slip down the side of the plastic and into the cardboard box, spilling out onto the floor. other than that, this was a great product.

Every time I open the big box of Oxbow Western Timothy Hay, there’s this really nice, fresh smell that hits you — like legit good hay smell. As soon as I lift the lid, my two buns come running and start munching way more enthusiastically than usual. It’s like they know it’s the good stuff! They’ve been eating this hay forever, and honestly, it’s the best thing for their teeth and digestion. Since they’re getting older, I also give them Oxbow’s vitamins and supplements for joints and digestion, which keeps them hopping around without any drama. The hay itself is all-natural and fresh, and the 25 lb box lasts a long time, so I’m not constantly worried about running out.

The two stars are for the quick arrival for arriving the next day, but these last three batches were terrible. I understand it's randomly hand-picked. Though, do we really need to drop $50 for roots? I feel bad for my bunnies. They deserve better! Seriously will consider paying extra for kaytee in smaller quantities. Appalling! Edit: Today, I reluctantly opened the package and could immediately smell the fresh greens through the exterior box. It's absolutely stunning! The bunnies love it and I don't have to worry about them tossing it to the side for nesting material. They savor each piece and actually stay full. This is certainly a better batch and well worth it!

Perfect soft grass hay with minimal dust. My rabbits love it and they've maintained a good weight. Considering the amount you get, the price is very fair. This will last a good 5 or so months with two 6lbs rabbits eating mutliple handfuls daily. Bonus: it smells amazing.

All my rabbit’s hay , treats and meds(critical care) are from this brand the only thing i would say is that when you buy oxbow hay in smaller amounts its cut into smaller pieces and this box has the longest pieces ever so i have to actually manually cut in smaller pieces or else my bunny wont eat

Reading the reviews, I suppose it's a bit hit or miss at times. However, the box I received was very good quality and our guinea pigs enjoyed the hay. There's a bit of stuff they don't eat as much, but that happens with the smaller bags too. I've just finished the first box and have to say it was a tremendous value at $65. I've ordered a second box now at $95 (price seems to fluctuate a lot, but still a great value at 95). Hopefully the second box is great quality too.

No issues until my last order when the hay arrived burnt, crispy and brown. This isn't suitable for livestock, let alone rabbits 🤦🏻‍♀️ Life is too expensive to be wasting this sort of money.
