Limited usefulness for travel outside Rio and Sao Paulo
I bought this for the "special section on the FiFA World Cup." It's only a few glossy pages pasted into the middle of the book and not worth the purchase by itself. Fodor's generally is targeted for upscale (and upscale wanna-be) travelers who want to explore the mega-cities of the globe. This book is laser focused on Rio de Janeiro and, especially, Sao Paulo. In fact, this may well be one of the comprehensive Sao Paulo sections I've seen in a Brazil travel guide. If your Brazil trip is going to be limited to these two cities, and you enjoy the finest things life has to offer, this may well be an excellent guide. If you are going to other cities, or into the rural sections and the national parks, give this a pass.

Great Guide
This book was awesome for planning an off the beaten path trip to Brazil. It gave much needed websites for travel, stay, and dining and a fantastic list of things to do in the area. I would highly recommend that anyone planning a trip to Brazil use this book as the first step to planning your trip.

Pretty good for travel in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, not great for the rest of the country. The "special section on the FIFA World Cup" doesn't actually provide any useful information

Lots of info. Not many photos.
More pictures would have been nice, but the book is loaded with good, insightful information on Brazilian culture, people, and the lifestyle.

Average book with a worthless section on the World Cup.
Having been to Brazil a few times before, it's nice to relive those experiences through books and make me happy my visa's still valid for a few more months. Fodor's Brazil 2014 is a remarkably average book when covering a country this large. The emphasis on the book is Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo. The section on Rio has a fair amount of coverage with the standard "tourist" photos of the location but despite that, I didn't feel anything from the book - no excitement, no energy, etc. It was informative however. The rest of the country got a cursory look and it feels like that there are gaps in the coverage and that leaving Rio or Sao Paolo is merely an afterthought if you're a Fodor's traveler. The World Cup section is a joke - a handful of pages covering the World Cup at a surface level. It certainly doesn't add any value for those who are attending or wanting to attend. The sparseness of this section makes me feel like this is a shameless attempt to sell more books just on "World Cup fever" alone. Shameful.Compared and contrasted with Lonely Planet's Brazil, the Fodor's book is 200 pages and a few dollars less, and makes for an easier decision to stick with Lonely Planet. If I was spending time in Brazil supporting the USA in Group G, then I'd want more information since the games are in smaller, geographically disparate cities. Fodor's Brazil 2014 is average at best, and does virtually nothing to stand out among other Brazil guidebooks.

Great To Add To Your Travel Books
Brazil is changing rapidly as country and the city of Rio de Janeiro is certainly in a rapid transition as it prepares for the 2016 summer Olympics, thus any travel book you purchase will need to be updated from time to time if you are planning to go to Brazil in 2016. I was last there several months ago and the city of Rio, especially with all the slums, needs a lot of special attention as does traffic and crime. This FORDOR Brazil travel book is a great start for developing a travel plan to go to Brazil, even if you don’t plan on taking in the 2016 Olympics. Let me get a couple of negatives out of the way to start. This travel book contains almost no photos, thus I consider that a minus. When I read about a particular site, I find it helpful if I can refer to a picture of the area. There are a very limited number of pictures in the front of the book. Second there is no map of the country. Usually a travel book will have a large map in the back which can be removed for one’s use. This one does not have that large map and in fact you only have small city or regional maps scattered throughout the travel book. The index shows approximately 19 maps however once again they are small and are actually inserts onto the page or area being discussed. This is OK, just not enough for my taste. The travel book contains more than 525 pages printed on a good quality, but certainly not a high copy paper. The print is dark enough for one to read which is a plus from other recent travel books I have read. The quality of the paper is no doubt a cost cutting measure, however this book retails for $24.99 US and I guess I just expect a little more. I am also rough on travel books when I carry them thus I like one that stays together and is on good quality paper. The contents of the travel book are rather good with sections on Rio De Janeiro, side trips or day trips from Rio, Sao Paulo, the South, the Amazon and other locations. You will find a lot of general information about where to go, where to stay and where to eat throughout the travel book. Just about like most others that you have probably reviewed or own.I will add this travel book to my collection and use it along with several others I have for my next trip to Brazil which I hope will be a trip up the Amazon a destination I still have on my “bucket list”. I am giving this book a “qualified five star rating” as I believe the lack of photos and maps has taken away a little from the actual contents one may expect in a travel book.

A Gotta-Have Book
At least it included a little about Macapa!

solo grandi città
La guida, quantunque aggiornata, non è un gran che. Si concentra sulle città principali, ma tralascia o tratta per sommi capi il resto del Paese.
