Still Great, but not "Pandemonium"
It is a tribute to the greatness of Pretty Maids' last album, "Pandemonium," that I'm still giving their leatst effort 5 stars. The former was one of the best metal albums I've heard in a long time. Not only was it intense, dark, and hard-hitting, but it had an atmospheric chill to it, and it was melodic and well-written."Motherland" is quite similar to "Pandemonium" in that regard, although this most recent effort is simply a good, solid metal album. "Motherland" is more balanced throughout; there is not a bad song on this record. The highlights, however, are not quite as good as the previious album. For example, "Bullet for You" is a love song, a typical ballad. The ballad from "Pandemonium" was a song called "Little Drops of Heaven," which was a perfect metal ballad with lyrics more haunting and deep than the simple love song would typically be.It's much of the same for the other tracks. Overall excellent stuff. Song structures and production are amazing, the band has never sounded better. If you liked their previous work or are a fan of hard rock, pop-metal, or metal in general, pick this up. While it may not be the masterpiece that "Pandemonium" was, it certainly is up there with the best rock albums of 2013, and it shows that even when this band is not at the top of their songwriting game, it's still head and shoulders above most of what's out there today.

Do these guys ever disappoint?
Pretty Maids released their "Motherland" CD in 2013. Much like all their other albums, this is pretty straight forward melodic hard rock with hints of metal at times. This could easily be one of the Maids best records, and it's easily one of my favorites. The first thing that jumped out to me was, this album is really well produced and has some powerfully written songs. Most of the songs seem to deal with political upheaval and issues, but they don't go all Rage Against the Machine on us here. Pretty Maids simply state how much the world sucks on a daily basis. The songs are also pretty rocking throughout; there are the occasional ballads( and lets face it, these guys can make a ballad) which slow the record down a bit, but nothing too awful for my tastes. My favorite tracks were "Mother of All Lies," "Motherland," "Who,What,Where,When" and "Bullet For You." The rest are winners though as well. This album would have been five-stars for me, but there was just the littlest amount of filler that crept in and kept it from that designation. The songs that are good, are really good, but some songs just seemed a little to boring for me. Overall really strong offering.

Yes, yes, yes...
Mother Land and Pandemonium are both HUGE offerings of M E T A L and seduction. I know of no other band that so easily moves between ripping your head off and cradling you in a warm and fuzzy love song like the totally commercial pop sounding Little Drops of Heaven. Pretty Maids rant against "the machine" and delve into the human psyche like few other bands can. I mean, c'mon... how about that original out take from the Ice Man? That's great stuff.

Solid Maids album...Always consistant
I have got into Pretty Maids since Future World and they never disappoint on their albums. Yes...they throw in some chessy ballads here and there but that have always put out great albums. This is no exception. Not as heavy as their last, but still solid

Metal that still #1
The Pretty Maids are from the 80s...they still are the most melodic hard driven rock and roll out today...will buy more of their music...

Metal Brethren submit to sweet sound
Having never had the access to this band in the eighties, I was reluctant to purchase this cd- I am quite taken with them. They posses the talent and pedigree of a super band sans the recognition. Buy it my metal brethren and it won't disappoint.

The best album in decades
Pretty Maids at their very best - could they relive their finest moments? You bet they could...They blew the past out of the water with this album. "Mother of all lies" is as awesome as they have ever been. I went through the album and rated each track as I went along - nothing less than 5 stars all the way down the line. If I had to be picky about anything, it is that the lyrics are deeply cynical about modern life. I agree with them, but I would perhaps have liked to be picked up by PM and taken away from the crap of modern life. Having said that, we live in a deeply disturbing world, so maybe they were right to address the hell of our own making.I hear a lot of very early Def Leppard in this album too. That is no sleight as "Pyromania" still hits me as one of the best rock albums of all time. By the time they conclude the album with "Wasted", I hear tones of Europe and it is so delicious I could eat it.Pretty Maids have blown me away with this album - I just want to SEE them now! BUY, BUY, BUY!

Back to their best ?
Since Pretty Maids made Future World I've been waiting for themto make a 5 Star album, and finally I think they done it.Most of the tracks (10 out of 13) get 5 stars from me, with The Iceman being my favourite track.Pretty Maids have done well to combine a few styles onto this album, from MelodicBallads to the Melodic Metal, with some epic sounds, and it has worked.

stellar follow-up
Pretty Maids have done it again. Following their previous masterpiece "pandemonium", they have come up with another winner. I will admit it took me 3 spins to fully get into it, but then I started to realise it was another perfect string of powerful songs. Honestly, there is no reason not to buy this. Must have.

Mother of all albums
Can't add much more to what has already been said by previous reviewers. The follow up to Pandemonium is awesome. Heavy mix of metal and ballads. Ronnie, Ken and the boys have delivered another stunning album.
