How to Pray: A Simple Guide for Normal People

One of the Best Books I've Read on Prayer!
I really love the tone that Pete Greig writes with. It's down-to-earth, humble, and practical. Often times books like these try too hard in being relatable with pop culture references, etc. But this book achieves a connection without those cheap tricks. Instead, he looks to art, history, and Scripture.I love how he breaks down prayer with diagrams and illustrations, while focusing it all on the Lord's Prayer. As the title entails, it is a simple guide for normal people making prayer accessible to all.Highly recommend this book to anyone who is wanting to grow in their prayer life or just looking for a place to start. Even for "seasoned saints", this book is sure to encourage and ignite new passion to pray.

How to be a prayer
Pete Greig has written a practical guide on how to pray. But this book is so much more than that. It not only challenges you to pray, it also encourages you and cheers you on. Is Pete a champion, a Hercules of prayer? He would say, I think, that he is a student of it, and that he learns how by doing it. In this book, he shares what he has learned from the practice of prayer. Yes, there are techniques and tools—nothing new, as these are time-tested practices the Church has been practicing for ages, and you can take comfort in that you are not being taught a maverick trendy way to pray. We are carrying on a powerful tradition that Jesus himself practiced and taught. But more than the techniques and tools, Pete encourages us to be a prayer: a person who prays, therefore, a pray-er, and also an offering of prayer to God. Greig gives us an acrostic: P.R.A.Y. to help us to pray. He also guides us through the Lord's Prayer, line by line, to help us to pray. These are all well and good. But my testimony is this: after reading this book, I found myself at my desk writing to God (my favorite way to pray). Right now my nation is in a difficult period of change. The elections are coming in a few months. The axis of evil politicians who desire nothing but to hold on to power and keep their corrupt ways and abuse the poor have the money and the machinations to cheat the elections into their favor. I choose to pray. I choose to talk, listen, abide in the God who not only loves me but also likes me. This is my biggest takeaway. That the God of the Big Bang likes me, and likes it when I come to him in prayer. Greig teaches ultimately that it is the Holy Spirit who teaches us how to pray, and by practicing prayer, we learn how to pray. By living a life of prayer and obedience, we become, ourselves, a prayer, precious to God.

Great to study along the video series with
I was leading a Bible study using the video series, this was perfect to pair with it for a deeper more in depth study. It went deeper into the subjects and I was able to offer more insight to our group.

Excellent book. Love Pete Greig's style. Very encouraging for rubbish pray-ers like me.
I love this book. I love Pete's style of writing - raw, real and relevant. It's a fantastic overview of why and how to pray. Love the stories and simple applications. I read it all the way through once and am now going back through slowly again to put it all into practice as part of my daily learning and devotions. He unpacks the Lord's prayer and gives a simple acronym P.R.A.Y to remember to a simple prayer rhythm. I also love the "keep it simple, keep it real and keep it up" advice! Want to learn how to pray? This is the book for you!

Great book on Prayer
Great because it is very accessible to absorb and more importantly, put into practice. I've read a lot of very good books on prayer but they did not resonate like Pete Craig's book. I now understand why it's called "A Simple Guide for Normal People "!! Thanks Pete Greig
