My guinea pigs LOVE this food! I have offered them other kinds of food, but they love this kind. They seem to love the flavor and freshness, they eat all of it without any problems. If you have a guinea pig that is six months or older, Oxbow’s adult “Cavy Cuisine” is exactly what you have been looking for. This guinea pig food is perfect for providing your cavy with a timothy-based pellet containing each of the essential vitamins and nutrients required for your cavy’s health to thrive. This is of absolute importance due to how easily guinea pigs can become ill, leading to several vet visits and possible fatalities. Increases Weight Control and Digestion Oxbow’s pellet is 100% timothy-based, which means that the pellet does not include any alfalfa. Alfalfa is a fatty and rich hay that is used in most guinea pig foods as a less expensive, lower quality alternative. The use of alfalfa in pellets, can lead to serious health problems for your guinea pig, such as weight gain, later on resulting in diabetes, as well as digestive issues, which can result in fatalities. You can find alfalfa-based pellets at most large-scale pet stores such as Petco and PetSmart, but very seldom can you find a timothy-based pellet with this quality. Instead, oxbow products are found online, costing a bit more due to shipping and handling, but providing your guinea pig with these necessary health benefits makes the additional cost incredibly worth it. Encourages a Balanced System This formula also contains a well-balanced ratio of calcium and phosphorus, which is essential for a healthy urinary system. Calcium is important for your guinea pig, as it is responsible for the health of your pig’s teeth and bones. Phosphorus is also essential, but too much of either of these nutrients can be detrimental.
