More Than 50 Seeds – Germination Update to Follow
Bought on 1 July 2026. Not the ideal timing, but nothing is impossible, so I decided to try. - The count was more than 50, varying in size and quality, but fingers crossed. - I soaked them in clean water for 24 hours at room temperature inside a dark cupboard. - Then I moved them onto a tissue-like base and left them for six days. - Just to be sure, I removed and rearranged the seeds on a cloth-like material soaked with a 1:8 hydrogen peroxide-to-water mixture, hoping to protect them from mould. - Some say 14–28 days is best, so after day 21, I will start taking out a few seeds daily, sow them, and update this review.

Viable seeds
I have purchased such seeds on several occasions and from different suppliers. Having planted something like 200 seeds and getting not a single germination, I am delighted to find a supplier with good seed stocks. In my experience, having now radically changed my approach to planting out, success is as much down to using the right medium for the seeds as it is seed viability. I have so far achieved 25% success (still rising) for my order of 50 seeds with this supplier. If your seeds fail, it is more likely down to the wrong medium (soil or other) and approach in general than unviable seeds.

Not the best germination
I bought these a few years ago now, back in 2021, and although not all the seeds germinated, I do now have 19 baby giant sequoias growing. I didn't do anything special to make them germinate, I just put them in small pots in the garden in December and left them to it, so I can't complain too much, I still got little trees!

No germination from any seed
Followed instructions to the letter for half the seeds and used RHS guide for the remainder but no sign of any germination with some seeds apparently rotted away.

High germination rate
I tried the 50 California Giant Redwood Sequoia seeds, and so far they’re doing well. I had a good germination rate after keeping them in the fridge on wet paper for 2 months. Everything seems healthy and sprouting nicely. I would definitely recommend these seeds.

Planted 40, got 12 little trees
I put the 40 seeds in the fridge for three weeks, then soaked them at room temp for two days, planted in small pots with a mix of potting compost, sand and vemiculite, left them on a sunny window sill indoors, watered carefully, hey presto! 12 little trees. Incredible % rate of germination. Excellent product, now going to sow the remaining 20.
