My 11-year-old daughter watched the Arpeggio of Blue Steel anime with me and loved it. When I told here there was a manga she flipped with joy and asked if we could get it. Well, she burned through the first 3 volumes on Christmas Day (when I gave them to her) and she eagerly awaits every new volume. The story can be a bit heavy for a tween (she hates that term) at times, but my daughter understands it's just a story and isn't real. The story is engaging enough that both my daughter and I reread these semi-regularly.

Truly Amazing Manga
I love The Arpeggio of Blue Steel series both the manga and the anime version (because they have differences) Makie is my favorite character and I like how she is a fighter in the manga version and I love how they have a glossary at the end of the manga (volumes 1-3 have it) and the story guide at the beginning that says everyones role (volumes 2-5 have that)

Muliplying Conspiracies
Gunzou Chihaya and the crew of the former Fleet of Fog 401 and her mental model Iona have not yet agreed to undertake the mission of delivering the potentially war winning vibration torpedo prototype to America where it can be mass produced, but they have accepted an invitation for a refit and restocking at what is technically their home port, Yokosuka, though they haven't seen it in two years,...but first they have to get there, which means getting past Fog Heavy Cruiser Takao .In Arpeggio of Blue Steel Vol. 1 Takao came up with what she considered the perfect plan for destroying the 401, but Gunzou managed to figure it out and turn the tables, resulting in Fog submarine 501 sunk and Takao missing, after she fled the battle in confusion. However, our heroes' safe arrival in Yokosuka only adds to their troubles as the leader of a rival political faction that opposes the mission they've been asked to perform basically kidnaps them at gunpoint in order to compel them to give up both their mission and the 401, something Gunzou is disinclined to do. But before anyone can do anything stupid, Fog battleships Kirishima and Haruna arrive, obviously looking for the 401, and the matter is tabled while Gunzou and crew prepare to take on the Fog battleships with the assistance of the Japanese built submarine White Whale. Gunzou isn't looking to just lure the Fog away; he intends to sink one of the battleships if he can.Meanwhile, Fog submarines 400 and 402 catch up to Takao in New Hakodate, where she is reading up on captains and behaving like a would-be Sub seeking out the Dom of her dreams, and deliver an ultimatum from Fog flagship Yamato. Clearly, the mental models are exhibiting more and more unexpected, potentially problematic (for the Fog) behavior: Takao is threatening to go rogue, Kongou is being disrespectfully insubordinate to Yamato, and it's an open question whether Kirishima and Haruna are merely exceeding their orders or flat out ignoring them. The battle continues in Arpeggio of Blue Steel Vol. 3 .
