Simple & small - but high quality!
I chose this camera for a couple of reasons. I wanted something small (discreet), didn't need a ridiculous amount of features (GPS, lane departure warning, etc...), and I did NOT want one with a lithium-ion battery (those types of batteries don't really enjoy New York weather). This camera fit that criteria, and it uses a super-capacitor instead of a battery (so it stands up to cold and heat even better). This camera gets very warm to the touch during use, but that's considered normal by the manufacturer - so no big deal. When I first tried to connect it to the computer and update it via Garmin Express, the program couldn't detect the camera no matter what I did. I then decided to connect the camera to the phone app and update it that way. The firmware seemed to be very out of date. Once updated, my computer recognized it easily. Setup for the camera (via the app) is very easy. The "good" choices are already selected for you, and you can use the app to view and transfer videos as well as see what the camera "sees" (Live Preview) to make sure everything looks the way it should (since the camera doesn't come with a screen). You can also do things like enable/disable audio and format the SD care (purchased separately), but you can do that with the camera itself, too. I was very happy with the 1080p video quality of the camera. License plates look clear, and everything looks overall very good. I equipped my camera with the Garmin Mini Suction Cup Mount (Garmin's website and the Amazon listing don't show it as being compatible with this camera - but it is. I've posted a review and a photo of the two together on the page for the suction cup mount). I also equipped it with a Garmin Polarized Filter Lens to reduce windshield glare. The lens works perfectly in daylight and makes the night time videos just a little darker (and yet, you can see details better). So, I'll leave the lens on as default. I like that they included two different micro-USB cables in the box. One cable is positioned to point upward when plugged into the camera (for those who want to hide the wire in the trim of their vehicle) and the other is positioned downward (for those who just want it pointed straight down to where the vehicle's outlet is). Since I use the easily removable suction cup mount, I also use the cable that points downward. Everything can be installed/uninstalled in just a few seconds. Again, this camera is for people who just want a dash cam (to basically prove that you did nothing wrong in the event of an accident) and aren't looking for all of the bells and whistles as the more expensive models. This is also the only "new" Garmin dash cam that uses a super-capacitor instead of a battery, so that was worth it. I consider super-capacitors a premium feature. Yes, batteries "last longer" when the camera is not plugged in, but if my camera is ever not plugged in, then I'm not planning to use it. The super-capacitor lasts long enough to save the video it's shooting once the camera loses power - and that's all that really matters. Everything is working perfectly, so I'm extremely satisfied. If anything changes, I'll update the review!

revised review - customer service was top notch.
I bought this as it is small and has good reviews. The product did work good for a few months, then never did again after trying a Firmware update. All I get now is flashing yellow lights indicating a sim card reading error. After re-booting and changing to a new card, same issue. I contacted Garmin, whose customer service was very good (minus the long wait times) and they sent me a replacement. I was very happy with their responsiveness and how quick they sent me a replacement. Unfortunately, the refurbished unit i received has the same exact issue right out of the box - new sim card used. Maybe they just sent my original unit back to me by mistake, or this is a fairly common issue. I wished it continued to work, as I like the size/functionality. Unfortunately, it is not reliable, and I spent way too much time trying to resolve the issue. I would highly recommend buying another dashcam unless Garmin addresses the error issue that seems to be extremely common. Good luck UPDATE - Customer service fixed my issue - basically you need to use a new unformatted memory card. One previously formatted on Windows will not work. Camera works flawlessly and kudos to the customer service in helping get this resolved. I would highly recommend this product because the company stands by its product. Great job Garmin

The best one I have owned.
This is my third dash cam. I finally decided to just spend the extra money and bought the Garmin Mini Dash Cam. I’m very happy with this one. It has a few draw backs but they are what you should expect with this model. First, you cannot view a live feed while the camera is recording. I’m always paranoid that i’m not capturing video because there is no screen and even with the Garmin Drive app you cannot view what is being captured. I hope there will be an update to make this a feature but I don’t think its a deal breaker. The other problem I have is there is no included memory card. For the price, I think a memory card should be part of the package. The lack of live view And memory card are the reason for a 4 star rating. Now for the good. Setup is quick and easy. I suggest using and “add a fuse” from amazon or the auto parts store to wire the camera into the fuse box with an existing ignition fuse, there’s plenty of dash cam videos online on how to do this. If you don’t mind seeing the wires you can just use an existing USB port in a newer vehicle or the dual USB cigarette lighter adaptor provided with the product. This also comes with 2 cords and an extra mount. The size is perfect for hiding behind your rear view mirror and you wont even notice it is there. The huge selling point for this particular dash cam is the rear view sync camera that you can add. I plan on buying another camera because of how impressed I am with this model. When both cameras are installed and sync in the app, the playback video will overlay the rear view on the front view picture so you have both views in sync for whatever may happen on the road. This is a great and unique feature because you never know if something will happen in front or behind you. The picture quality at night and day is wonderful and you wont mis a thing. Loop recording feature automatically rewrites over the oldest video. The parking feature is another must have but is pretty common with most dash cams. Capturing motion while parked lets me see what, if anything, happened to my vehicle while I wasn’t around. I hope this helps you make your decision. I will provide some images soon.

Good small dash cam
I used this camera for the rear window in my wagon and it’s perfect as it’s very small and doesn’t block the view at all. I bought the Garmin magnetic mount and used that instead of the mount this came with as I wanted to be able to remove the camera much easier if needed. Picture quality is as good as is needed for a dash cam. Not good enough to read license plates unless the cars are very close but that’s not really needed. The Garmin app is also well set up and easy to use and find/download videos. Would recommend this camera to anyone looking for a reliable and compact dash cam.

Quality, unobtrusive Dash Cam
I selected the Garmin Dash Cam Mini based on size, lack of a display, basic features (no gps or alerts) and Garmin name. Install is a snap when Dash Cam Mini is combined with a SimpleUSB Dash Cam adapter. Setup and operation is easy and video quality satisfactory. Video preview via Garmin Drive app is slow with reduced definition but when downloaded to a computer the video has a normal 30fps speed and better definition. Day time picture is bright and clear but night vision is somewhat darker (after all it is night). The optional polarized lens is effective at reducing glare but it further reduced the night vision. The Garmin Drive app can be a little slow connecting to the Dash Cam Mini which is okay as I won't review/download video unless there is a need. I expect to purchased a second Dash Cam Mini for rear view. I will recommend the Garmin Dash Cam Mini to others.

BAD product do not purchase this thing.
WORST PRODUCT EVER. The dash cam has a nice attractive size but it gets hyper hot to the touch and stops working after 10 or so minutes of usage. Also the car adapter supplied with the camera just burned after the first day of usage. The app android app does not work properly on a Sony XA2 with Android 9. Beware and read more reviews before purchasing this product. UPDATING REVIEW AS OF APRIL 27th 2021 Once again folks, I have been giving this product constant reviews, and I believe it's helpful to have a review over a period of time. A summary: the product STILL GETS HOT, no matter what configuration you put in. The camera get so freaking hot it will shut down eventually. Unfortunately enough, I had to disassembly the camera *its out of warranty anyways* , and I was able to find that the MAIN CPU CHIP has a very Tinny heat sink that its attach to the casing of the camera. I had to purchase a separate heat conducting paste and apply it, also, I create something like a Frankenstein attachment that goes outside of the camera, that will allow the system to dissipate more heat. Juts to let you know, as the camera gets hotter, you will get blurry images... so, the resolution for getting licenses plate its gone. If you ask me better go for a very cheap camera, one that its worth 60 USD MAX, used it for a year and then replace it for a new one. Updating the product review 22-Oct-19 1. After using the product for several months now, I have come to several conclusion, the car adapter was not damaged as original stated, it was getting stuck, thus creating a bad mechanical and electrical connection with the car outlet, I had to give a big push and make a good solid connection, now is working perfectly fine. 2. The App was causing problems with the release of the Sony Xperia XA2 Android Version 9, fortunately enough, Sony launch a new software upgrade to correct minor defects on the OS, now the Garmin application run perfectly fine on the cellphone. 3. Camera getting hot: This problem is still an issue, the camera is still getting hot, when I got the camera and installed the application software for the PC, I was able to connect the camera and make a FIRMWARE upgrade on the camera itself, this upgrade, does NOT eliminate the over heat issue, however, looks like the camera runs more efficiently and does not shut down during a long trip, however, the camera does shut down after 1 hour and 45 minutes, seems to be that putting the air conditioning helps in getting the camera to run a little bit hotter. Don't get me wrong... the camera size and the picture quality are great, however, running the camera at such high temperatures (even if is within spec and according to automotive standards) could be risky. Cheers

Best dash cam on market for the money
Camera is small and discreet. Installation was a breeze with long micro USB cord and was hidden behind trim. Dash cam is simple to utilize and connects flawlessly to app every time you need to check camera placement. Do not utilize the app to download video as it will take forever through Bluetooth connection however if you utilize dash cam for purposes intended you should only have to remove SD card in the event of an incident and save video to your computer. As other reviews state the camera does get hot however not excessively hot. This is to be expected with the fast write rate onto the SD card. I have taken the camera on several long road trips and has recorded without shutting down due to overheating. and camera has been on constantly for over eight hours during these trips. I would not hesitate to recommend this camera.

Discreet dashcam
This camera fulfills the main thing I wanted out of a dashcam: it records automatically and I basically forget that I even have it on the windshield. Very good picture quality, intuitive app, extremely easy setup, and excellent automatic on/off recording. Again, the major advantage is the small size. I installed it behind the rearview mirror and it sits nicely behind there out of my view while driving. I highly recommend this if, like me, you hope to never have to use the footage you collect with a dashcam, but would like to have high quality footage collected in the background "just in case". Also, as a resident of a state where audio recording is iffy legally, the side button allowing easy on/off of audio recording is another nice feature. Note that a micro SD card (not included) is required to use this camera.

Great purchase
Great little camera. It’s small enough that it hides behind my mirror which was important to me as I hate clutter and I find lights to be very distracting and causes me headaches. It gets really hot as other posters have said, I hope it doesn’t melt. The setup wasn’t difficult, I did it from my home computer. Since this doesn’t come with a micro SD card I purchased a 512 gb for an extra $90.

Great little dash cam
Bought a pair of these with the intention of replacing my iRoad X9, one for the front, one for the back BUT... one of the boxes arrived without the camera unit so I'm stuck with the X9 as my main dash cam for now. App works much better than most dashcam phone apps available today. Small form factor dashcam is discreet and doesn't get in the way. It's small yet it has just the right features I need - Parking mode, low power consumption (during parking mode), good quality video. What doesn't work so great and needs improvement: 1) Better management of recorded footage - wheres the option to delete parking mode videos? How about an indicator to show how much free space remaining on the SD card? 2) Camera unit runs HOT. Heat is conducted out the back cover so I attached a 1" square heatsink behind which helped a lot with the stability of the camera. 3) Parking mode cable should be included!
