The inside pages are in great shape but the cover (large 3 ringbound notebook style) was ripped from top front spline. It's beautifully photographed and inviting to leaf through; I shared my copy with my daughter-in-law, and her reaction was "I can hardly wait to sit down and look through it."The instructions are clearly organized and easy to follow, and the book includes tips and tricks; for example, what exactly is it supposed to look like once you've whipped something to "soft peaks"? The recipes' level of difficulty and the assortment is appropriate to all skill levels. Most of the recipes include the usual homey anecdotes and user suggestions that so many fans of Taste of Home enjoy.It's an impressively thought-out cookbook. The first thing I liked was that it's ring-bound, enabling me to add my own recipes easily or rearrange the sections to suit myself. Inside the front cover are equivalencies, such as how many cups of apple slices you can expect to get from a pound of apples. The inside back cover details substitutions for commonly required ingredients. The snap-in clear plastic page protectors are a stroke of genius!Pack this with a nice set of baking pans to make an outstanding gift for any cook. It is huge, and full of wonderful recipes, valuable charts and pages of hints and techniques for even new bakers as well. The pages are chock full of tempting color photos that will have you sitting there just reading and contemplating what to bake next. The book is set up wonderfully with chapters and tabbed pages so you don't even have to flip through the mounds of pages to find the section you want, just grab the tab on the side and you are there! At the beginning of each tabbed section, is also a more comprehensive breakdown of what is in that unit and helpful hints. There are two clear plastic pages in the book to help keep your pages clean while baking with the book open, it's ring bound so you can move them, and any page, where ever you would like it. There is also a unit for breads and savory baking so don't just think that this is only about cakes! There are quick breads and yeast breads....etc. I bake very often and consider myself to be experienced at it, and this is still a treasured addition to my library of recipes and resources. I fell in love with this book the moment I opened it, and within 15 minutes more, I ordered a second for a gift for a friend.
