I found some more complicated items require careful preparation and testing before installation. But since they run on 12 volts DC, it is necessary to have a power source. It's not always practical to install items in the car and can be risky if the electric layout isn't correct.This unit supplies reasonable power (a little less than six amps) and covers my needs well for a reasonable price.It is small and light. The power cord is long enough to put in on a work table with a little to spare. The items I have attached worked properly and showed the correct 13.8 volts of power (the usual rating of car output when running).I have run it for several one hour sessions without the unit, cords or socket getting hot. Plug into regular 110/120v electric and you have a cigarette lighter plug ready to accept your 12v 'toys'. I bought it for my boat house so I could plug in floating fishing light from my boat when I just want to fish from the dock - and it's great for that. When I got a new sonar/char plotter unit I attached a cigarette lighter adapter to the power wires on it and was able to explore the unit's mapping facility in detail and do some of the settings so it will be ready to go when it's in the boat. Also was able to easily update the software on the unit. It is handy anytime you want to try out a new 12v device without having to go and hook it up in a car or boat. I was surprised at the economical price on this unit, too. This seems to be a good, solid unit that should hold up well over time. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Working perfectly so far *by F***L on Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2013* I just purchased an Engel portable refrigerator-freezer Model MD14F and I needed a converter cord so it can go from the car to a hotel room as needed when traveling. The unit works only with DC power so I needed the converter cord to run it off A/C power. The Engel specs said this could be done using their own converter cord but I decided to try the less expensive Sunforce converter cord which I could get more rapidly. The Sunforce cord promised a somewhat greater Amp power than the refrigerator/freezer required so I ordered it. It arrived in 2 days as promised (reliable Amazon Prime!) and I plugged it into the A/C outlet first, as suggested by another reviewer who said that's very important. I then connected it to the DC cord that came with the unit; it had already been plugged into the freezer. It all turned on instantly and the unit is cooling right now to the freezer setting which promises to be -15 Centigrade. There are 5 settings on the Engel unit and this one is the coldest. It's all very quiet and the converter cord's box is slightly warm - not at all hot.
