They help repel ants, but I like a 2-prong approach best
I bought two of these on Amazon last summer, although it might not "verify" my purchase, since it was just about a year ago, and I bought some summer PJs which I thought was also last summer and Amazon didn't verify that purchase. Maybe it was 2 summers ago; in any case, it appears there is a time limit on how long you have to review something and still be counted as verified. These ant moats are helpful in repelling ants alright, but I also have been using cooking spray to keep the feeder poles slippery as a two-prong approach to my ant problem, ever since I first read about doing that in Audubon magazine. The slippery surface does have to be re-done often though. I don't like the sticky residue the annoying labels leave on the moats, which Goo Gone will get rid of, but last summer when I bought those I couldn't find the Goo Gone, so I used acetone or something harsher on one, and it messed up the plastic surface, making it tacky all the time. I decided to replace them, but I thought $9 apiece for a couple of pieces of cheap plastic with metal hanger hooks was just too much, so when I saw the same Trap-It ant moats in the Wild Bird Center store near us, for only $7, ($6.99, technically--still a big profit margin for them, but a bit more reasonable), I bought 2 more a couple of weeks ago. These are not only a back-up ant repellent, but I clean them out and add fresh water just about daily in the dry spells of summer. The goldfinches and other small birds seem to be very happy to have a fresh water supply, because I see them at it often. They are SOOO cute, I'm happy to oblige them!

The ant trap is a hit and a must have!!
The ant trap arrived on time and the packaging was intact. I waited a couple of weeks to test this product prior to my review. I am so relieved that I finally found this ant trap which really works. Following are some tips for those who have not had a successful experience:Hang the ant trap from an "S" hook by placing it on your tree branch and fill it with water. Hang the Hummingbird feeder with the sugar water from the ant trap and ensure that the feeder and its perches do not touch the tree trunk, branch and leaves. The feeder should be balanced so it does not leak. Some feeders leak due to not attaching the feeder's parts securely. The other reason is if your feeder bottle is plastic, you should not wash it in the washing machine due to the excess heat. The exception is if your feeder bottle is made of glass. If you live in a windy area, check your “S” hook, feeder and ant trap regularly to ensure that it is balanced and your ant trap has plenty of water in it. The “S” hook would help stabilize your ant trap and feeder and prevent it from falling especially when it gets windy. It is preferable to hang the ant trap and feeder is a shaded area. The water in the ant trap does not evaporate quickly and I have not been filling it with water on a daily basis. In addition, the sugar water in your feeder will last longer since it is not in direct sunlight.Bottom line, this product works if you ensure that your ant trap and feeder does not touch the tree trunk, branch and leaves and your Hummingbird feeder parts are attached correctly.

It works --- well!
We love feeding the birds & enjoy watching hummingbirds visit our feeder daily but cleaning & refreshing/refilling the feeder was a task I came to dread. Every day ants would march up the shepherd's hook and make their way onto, and into, the hummingbird feeder. One word - Yuck! I'd do all of the cleaning outside just to be sure I didn't bring any ants into the kitchen. I searched online & found many diy options but at the end of the day just wanted the problem to be addressed without experimenting. This simple cup design fit the bill & works perfectly. It hangs from the shepherd's hook and the feeder hangs from the unit. The first few days there were ants in the "moat" but none in/on the feeder. At last the feeder was only feeding the birds. Then, a few days later even the moat was clean. The ants seemed to realize that the sweet food source was gone and moved on. This cup is here to stay & in terms of aesthetics the label peeled off easily making it attractive. Five stars!

Skeptical but convinced!
I live in AZ so it’s hard to keep trap water filled, not a product issue. We have Flickers, large desert woodpeckers that love our hummer feeders. They jump on and swing the feeders spilling nectar to the ground, ants show up within a day. No more and I’m back to using both feeders. Love this trap!

TRAP-IT & ANTS!
I would highly recommend the TRAP-IT product to everyone! For years we have fought the battle with Ants concerning our several Hummingbird Feeders.Once they found the Feeders it was like a Parade them coming, climbing and eating as well as retuning with Nectar to their Ant Home. Not to mention when we would bring the feeders into the house to clean them in the sink and refill the feeders. There would be Ants run out that was in the inside of the feeders. And we would have to chase them down before they got into the main house.I have now been using the TRAP-ITs now for two months and they are a phenomenal product! You simply keep water in the reservoir and check about every third day with the hot Summer Sun. And the Ants are totally gone from the feeders. In the Fall when the Hummingbirds start to feed up for the long trip south We will have 7 feeders on the Front Porch 32 oz. each and we will have to fill them once every day. Bottom line I will be ordering more Trap-It units. The picture above show what I did to hang them.GREAT PRODUCT!RC
