Professional sound for an amateur price tag
This mic has truly surpassed my expectations. Having owned a lavalier mic that connected to a mobile phone previously (from Shure) I had formed the opinion that you couldn't get decent quality sound out of a mic at this price point, afterall; the input shouldn't make any difference, and Shure is a well known brand. The Shure mic wasn't cheap and yet the tone of my voice in the recordings was flat and distant no matter how I positioned it and no matter what I did in post production. The Comica lav mic has proven me wrong, you can get a professional sound out of a mic at this price range! I know that different mics suit different voice types, but it's worth noting that this one picks up a wide spectrum and captures my voice really well. With a bit of EQ and compression this mic sounds amazing. I have it connected directly to my Canon XA11 as the camera has built in XLR inputs and I now have great video and sound without having to mix the two in post. I have a really nice condenser mic from Samson that I've been using from about a foot away when filming for Youtube, but it captures too much of the room and I'm now looking at ways to hide the Comica lav mic so I can switch to using this instead, it really does sound a lot more professional. I think if my Samson mic was up close it would probably just about beat the Comica for tonal clarity, but it's arguable considering I haven't had that much practice with positioning a lav mic. More to the point though the Samson is a condenser mic worth well over £100 and can't be used for interview style footage! If you're looking for professional sounding footage on a budget then I can highly recommend this for anyone trying to up their Youtube quality without breaking the bank. The mic comes with a wind proof hood, which my missus was cooing over yesterday saying that it was "really cute" XD I haven't tried it yet, but it seems to be of good quality and I don't see why it would work any differently from any other brand, it's just a furry ball at the end of the day. The only point of note; I wish I'd bought the longer version. The sitting distance from the camera makes the short version a bit of a stretch so bear this in mind when choosing the length of cable, aside from that I can't recommend it enough.

Good Sounding Lavalier
The lavalier comes with a properly fitted foamie with a rubber grommet holding it on and a ‘dead kitten’ type windshield for outdoor use. The cable to the XLR connection is close to six feet so plenty to wrap around your body if you want to hide it. The vulnerable part in the audio chain would probably be this wire since it is possibly more open to interference but having an xlr connection allows for much longer runs in a studio type environment and should there be electrical noise, just moving the wire at the mic end will minimise it. Having said that, I didn’t get any even close up to my internet router. Since you need 48v phantom power, you will need a mic socket on your camera to take this connection or a portable preamp. I tried a Beachtek preamp and a battery operated one with it and it was great. It works with a 12v supply if you are using battery preamps although the volume drops a little if you do. Useful if you are out and need better battery life from your preamp. There’s a healthy output at 48v: plenty loud enough. Self noise level is quite good. The closer you get the lav to you the better though so noise is really minimalised in a studio environment. I like the sound of the capsule quite a lot. It’s nice and open and doesn’t go too muffled when worn. Many lavs lose their top end when in close proximity to your clothes, but this sounded nice. Back electrets work slightly differently to other electrets where the back plate is charged, and this mic showed good dynamics and is quite lively when adjusting the input volume. It seems to react very fast to transients so you are getting a pretty dynamic sound. A really decent sounding lavalier at this price level.

A good choice
I have 3 of these, to date they have never let me down. Good price and a great sound for interviews

As described, arrived on time, works well.
Good little microphone at an excellent price. We're using them for interviews at loud events and the dialogue sounds great. After testing this microphone we immediately bought another one!

Decent phantom power lavalier mics, but variable build quality.
I'll be honest, I'm a little disappointed. I bought the 2 pack, and there's a very noticeable difference between the two microphones. One of them I'm pretty happy with - fairly good quality pick up, without too much noise. Not spectacular, but decent for the money. The second microphone is substantially worse - lots of weird background hiss. You can tell which microphone is plugged into which port of my recorder purely by looking at the levels when all else is silent. I won't be buying another of these.

Stupidly short XRL cable length on Comica XLR Microphone CVM-V02C Cardioid XLR Lavalier
Unless you have your recording device in your pocket (And one thats small enough to fit in your pocket) then you are going to have to carry round an additional XLR cable to attach to this to make it long enough. There's no way it's long enough to have it discretely not shown and plug it into a camera as per the photo in the products description. Will review the actual lavalier mic when I can use it somewhere due to the above.

Very good value - budget phantom powered cavalier.
I bought this for a friend to use with her zoom pod track recorder. It runs off 48v phantom power and sounds perfectly reasonable for general voice or ambient recording. She could have used a wireless lab but that's one more thing to remember to charge etc. and this works perfectly ok as a simple and quick solution that doesn't need charging, It's also a very reasonable price and seems quite well constructed.

It makes an irritating buzzing noise in the background
I connected it to a soundcard with a 48V XLR interface, but it is making a buzzing noise in the background. For this reason, I don't recommend this.

Erickson Films YouTube: Review
Comica XLR Lavalier Microphone Lavalier microphones are perfect for recording audio of a talent without showing a microphone on screen or setting up boom poles. One of the reasons I personally, however, have generally chosen to avoid them is because they generally use a 3.5mm connection meaning you need to connect them to a phone, or mobile recorder. I own a high-quality XLR audio interface called the Audient ID14 and always prefer to run microphones through it, because of its incredibly low noise, high-quality preamps; something that I couldn’t do with most lavalier microphones without purchasing a 3.5mm to XLR converter. Comica approached me and offered to send two of their XLR, phantom power, CVM-V02O2 lav microphones for review. This microphone eliminates the need to for carrying a portable battery powered recorder with a 3.5mm jack and instead allows you to plug straight into any audio interface just like a standard condenser microphone. Finally, I had a means of using a lavalier microphone that could plug directly into my audio interface, and record straight into Adobe Audition; allowing simple syncing into my videos given my one room indoor setup. This was really a lifesaver for me, because in the past whenever I wanted to use a lavalier microphone, I was restricted to plugging into my phone and having to email the file to myself, a hassle that led me to rarely use lav mics. My entire sponsored video for AnyTrans was recorded with the mic, which I will play a sample of here, raised to the levels of this video: As you can probably hear for yourself, the sound quality is really quite excellent for a $37 microphone, providing a clear, fairly warm sound. The microphone sounds a little thinner than I would like, but my point of reference is a Blue Spark in a sound-treated closet. For the best sound, I would recommend putting on headphones to monitor and try placing the mic in different parts of your shirt until you find an area that sounds best to you. Given that the microphone is omnidirectional you will need to record in a very quiet area if you don’t want background noises in your video. This is something I need to emphasize because a lot of people have the idea that they can simply through a lav on a talent and not expect to record everything in the environment. This isn’t much of a problem if you’re going for a more natural sound in your production, but always keep in mind that the recording space must always be considered when using a sensitive condenser microphone like this one. Also, expect a certain amount of noise when walking around with this, or any other lavalier microphone unless you purchase a special type of sticky material created to prevent said noise. I will link some of this tape in the description. Really, at this price point, you would be hard-pressed to find a better sounding lav mic that is also XLR. Another really excellent feature of this microphone is its ability to plug directly into a camera with XLR ports like a Canon C100, an ideal set up for documentary shooting. Something to consider for this though is the microphones chord is only about 6 feet long, so you would likely need a wide angles lens to pull off interview shooting. Alternatively, this could also be plugged into a high-quality XLR recorder like the Zoom H5, for optimum performance and ease of use; so long as you are willing to sync audio in post. Also, this microphone provides clear enough sound quality to serve as an extra mic for a podcast guest or something of the sort, and could easily be concealed in clothing. While I likely won’t be changing my format of voice over playing over footage, it’s good to know that I now have a high-quality option for recording talking head videos that work well for my set up of recording inside. Big thanks to Comica for sending me these microphones for review, but I want to make clear that I was in no way paid to make this video, and all opinions expressed here are my own. I would wholeheartedly recommend this microphone to anyone looking for a clear sounding XLR, lav under $50. I know it’s been a long time since consistent uploads, but I think I am finally back guys. I wish everyone a happy new year and am thrilled to think where this channel goes in 2018. Until next time, Christian from Erickson Films, signing out!

Bon son, long câble, petit prix.
