I’ve used a lot of tuners over the years, and the D'Addario Accessories Micro Headstock Tuner is by far one of the best small tuners I’ve come across. The first clip-on tuners I ever bought were Snarks and have always been happy with their performance and the very nice and easy to read display...….but I absolutely love the low profile of the D'addario clip-on tuners. So much less noticeable on your instrument!!! By far, this is the best and maybe only selling point of this tuner. You do sacrifice in a smaller display but it is readable. Also, the plastic ratchet clamp that you adjust to fit to your headstock is noticeably cheap. I bought the 2 pack and the first time I attempted to clip one onto a rather small ukulele headstock, I was immediately concerned with the clamp breaking. It seemed stuck and wasn't easy to adjust or open up to a larger size. With care, I manage to slip it on and everything now is fine, just be careful the first few times you are adjusting the clamp and don't use force. If needed look at the video. Also, at the time of my purchase, this seller was still running an older add with a metronome feature included in the tuner. I bought the 2 pack option in Oct. 2019 and the metronome feature is not included in this model. Not a deal breaker for me though because I bought this for the low profile.....just be aware. Also, these do come already loaded with batteries, which is nice but you never know how long these batteries have been sitting in these preloaded models before being shipped out. I always make a point to turn mine off immediately after tuning and one of the batteries died after 2 days. Again, not a deal breaker for me but probably a smart thing to have a few spare batteries with you even with a brand new tuner. Time will tell how well these will hold up but any other clip-on from now on is going to seem huge in size after using these. So far, even with the cons, I am loving them.

I have over 30 guitars, and a similar army of headstock tuners. Snark, Fender, Donner... A few years ago I settled in on the D'Addario tuners. Most accurate, most convenient, best visibility. I mostly have the big rectangle ones... I bought a Gretsch hollowbody with a Bigsby. That guitar needs a dedicated tuner. So I decided to give this a try. VERY small. I'm able to tuck this around the back of the headstock, and you would not know it's there. Replaceable battery, so I can use this for a long time. Same great tuning ability I have come to know and love from D'Addario. What I did not expect - OMG. This is perfect for headless guitars. I have struggled mightily to get the "usual" clips to sit on a headless guitar with varying degrees of success for a while now. This fits perfectly on my Strandberg Salen Jazz, my Kiesel Vader, my Steinberg Spirit... If you have headless guitars, get one.

D'Addario nailed it with this product and is excellent in every point. I've tried Snark and the Uber Tuner, and prefer this a lot more. What I like: Small - Turned out to be smaller than I thought based on the pictures, but this is not a bad thing. It means that that is super light, and out of the way. Discrete - One main reason I like this tuner is it can hide behind the head stock and the audience only sees a tiny clip. Very discrete and professional looking. Other tuners look like a big potato chip bag clip hanging on your head stock Stays on always - The ratchet mechanism works and stays on firmly. I have no fears that it will fall off. Because it is small, you can leave it on 24/7, even when you put the guitar down or put it back in the case. The tuner practically just becomes an integral part of the guitar. This is a HUGE advantage that you will begin to appreciate over other tuners once you use it. You never lose the tuner, it's always on when you need it, you don't have to waste time taking it off, finding it, putting it back on, etc. Because they are affordable, you can easily buy one for every guitar you have and leave it there. Instant on/off and accessible power button - Press the button and it turns on very fast and its ready to pick up vibrations almost immediately so you're ready to go Press the button again and it turns off right away. The power button is also very accessible and easy to press since the tuner rests firmly against the head stock. Some tuners annoyingly make you hold the power button for a few seconds to turn it on or off Screen is small but bright - I was afraid that the display would be too small, but it is plenty bright and can be easily read. It changes color depending how in tune you are Accurate - The in tune indication has a very tight tolerance. It jumps around a bit because of this tight tolerance, but even if you are just around ball park, your guitar will still sound in tune. Other tuners I have found has too wide of a range for the "in tune" position. My ears are particularly sensitive to my guitar even when it is slightly off. This product exceeded my expectations and I will no longer look anywhere else.

Simple to use, does exactly what you want it to. I attached it to the head stock at several points and they all work well. I left it just below the low E string tuning knob, where it’s pretty much out of sight. Nice gadget.

The idea is great--a permanently placed tuner, inconspicuous and small. Buy one for each axe! The tuner works well enough. I don't know the accuracy, because the PlanetWaves people have not deigned to reveal the specs either on their website or in the instructions. But they seem on the note. The buttons to turn it on and calibrate are a touch dicey, though. It is easy to turn it on inadvertently. Here's the caveat: It won't fit well on every guitar. I bought it specifically for my Taylor 414 (built 2000). All the photos of the tuner on acoustic guitar in promotional materials show the tuner near the tuner key for the high E string, between the tuner post and the nut. That would be great. But it's not going to work on a guitar that has too much of a curve there--the headstock angling away from the fingerboard, or one with too broad a truss rod cover. There simply isn't room on my 414 for the tuner to sit between nut and E tuner, and be tightened down. The only place it really fits securely on my 414 is right at the very top of the headstock, in the little divot above the Taylor logo. So much for inconspicuous, but that would be okay. However, that position means that the view of the tuner screen itself is then obstructed by the left hand on the tuner keys. So you have to look around your hand to see the screen. This is not really the way it's supposed to work out. I put it on my Line 6 Variax (original model, with 3x3 headstock). It works on it, but there is only one single place it will fit (and that's on the bass side of the headstock, not the treble side as is shown in all the Planetwaves promo). It fits, but only just. I haven't tried it on my Strat yet. Update: I have revised this review and taken it from 4 stars to 3 stars. The reason: This tuner is not secure on two of my guitars--the ones I wanted to use it on, as they are my everyday-use guitars. The problem is, they seem to have designed this as a response to the unworkability of their other headstock tuner on Fender Telecaster guitars. Watch the PlanetWaves video, and their brag is: It fits great on a Tele headstock. It fits on my Strat headstock. The reason is that Fender does a fairly quick incline from the nut to the headstock, and the headstock itself is not angle but lays flat, and with the 6 tuning keys on one side, there's a nice open expanse on the headstock to which the tuner can attach. That is not the case on either of my other guitars, so while it will stay on my Line 6 Variax, it is not secure--there's not enough flat real estate on the headstock for the whole tuner to sit. The result is that, when pressing the power button or the calibration button, the tuner moves around and can easily be pushed off the guitar, because it can't really sit securely. The pressure needed to use the power button is sufficient to slide the tuner off if its grippy rubber pads are not and cannot be seated flat. This will be different for every guitar, so don't think that this tuner actually fits well on every guitar--and it may not fit on yours. If you buy it in a store, try it on a guitar like yours if you can, to see if it fits anywhere. Otherwise, buying it blind, you're taking a chance. It's a good tuner. On some guitars, at least, though, it will fit only one place on the headstock, and sometimes that place is just unusable. On other guitars, it will not really fit at all. And on some--I wonder if it's only a few--it fits just fine. If you want it for a Strat or Tele, it will work great. Update, 4/21/12: I kept the tuner on my Stratocaster. Then I got a 12-string acoustic, on which, of course, this did not fit. But I still wanted to use a small, permanently mounted tuner on the new guitar. So I just dismounted the tuner from the attaching clip (it comes off easily enough, designed to do so), and put a square of Velcro® on the tuner top and on the guitar. (I had to cut a notch in the piece on the tuner.) So now I have it mounted on the back of the headstock of my 12er, at a 45 degree angle. I wish the Velcro were not quite so puffy, but it works fine. One could also use adhesive putty or some glue dots. Since that worked so well, I'll probably buy another for permanent residence on my Strat, and maybe even tuners for the rest of my ukes and guitars. In fact, Planet Waves should really accommodate those whose guitars this won't fit (most, in my view) by enclosing a secondary form of attachment. The old Sabine AX-3000 had a type of tacky pad on it that holds well to the guitar and can't be lifted off, but when twisted slightly comes off without marring. A sticker of that kind of material included with this tuner would solve attachment problems for those whose guitars don't have space for the default clip on this tuner.

Yeah...I know it's small, but it's mighty! I used it, exclusively, to micro-tune my classical guitar, constantly taking readings with this tuner at the 12th fret as compared to the open note and adjusting the saddle as needed. This tuner did a great job--I didn't need my old rack-mount tuner because this one was super-accurate, and that really surprised me!!!!! The proof is in the pudding, they say, and now, thanks to this inexpensive but great tuner, the intonation on my guitar is about as perfect as it can be (given the fact that it is an acoustic instrument) which the flutist and violinist I play with appreciate a lot. I liked it so much that I purchased two more for my other classical and my steel-string Taylor, and it works great on both of those too.

purchased this product based on the reviews, and I must say, it's truly a little marvel. While I knew it was small, I didn't anticipate it being this tiny! Nonetheless, it's essential for musicians.

It's good. Get this one. Small. Discreet. Does its job well. But doesn't announce its presence. I gave up on the Polytune for this one. Attaches securely. Full 360 angle rotation. Adjustable display orientation. Definitely MICRO but still easy to read. Replaceable battery so you don't have to throw out a working unit just because the battery dies. Just know this hugs tight to the clamp and wherever you clamp it. It doesn't sit out and away. I thought it might be problematic. I was looking at a Snark as well. But it wasn't a problem at all. It's so discreet and secure, you can just leave it on. No hunting for the tuner. No clipping on/off every time you need to tune. Just pick up your guitar and it's right there. Can't get lost.

I use these tuners for my bass guitars. They are accurate and work very well for my bass instruments. I never take them off as they are so small and discreet. The letters are easy to see, and can be viewed from different angles. Purchased one as a gift for a friend who plays mandolin and is he is delighted with the ease of use and the size of the tuner. I have been using mine for over 6 months and have not had to change the battery yet. Would highly recommend this tuner to fellow musicians.
