da Vinci Watercolor Series 35 Size 1 - Long Tapered Round - Maestro Kolinsky Red Sable - Extra Long Taper at the tip - Handmade in Germany

To be clear, natural hair brushes from every company are plagued with quality control issues. Some work great for the lifespan of the brush and others splay and can't hold a point during the first painting session. I happened to get a good one. Comparing it to the W&N Series 7 brush of the same size, I much prefer the DaVinci. Ability to hold a tip: They both hold a tip equally well. However, the DaVinci can hold more paint and yet still hold a tip versus the W&N that starts to split. I believe this is in part because the DaVinci does have slightly longer bristles so the belly of the brush is fuller. Control: Despite the longer bristles which you'd think would result in less precision, the DaVinci was much easier to use when doing fine edge high lighting in the 'Eavy Metal style on Primaris Space Marines. It was very easy to lay a "chunky" edge highlighting followed by a medium line and concluding with that ultra thin highlight. The W&N was good at only the chunky first highlight but lacked the control to lay down the subsequent thinner highlights. Paint flow/capacity: As mentioned earlier, the DaVinci can hold more paint due to its longer bristles and bigger belly. I didn't have to refill the brush as often and the paint never dried on the tip. The only downside is that with longer bristles it can be harder to paint certain parts of the model....even when using sub-assemblies. I on occasion did grab the shorter bristled W&N to reach hard to get places. But otherwise, I liked the DaVinci so much, and the price is really good now (and about 10 dollars cheaper than W&N), that I bought a few spares. Great brush! Update: I've also tried the Raphael 8404 size 1. Although its got a bigger belly than any brush I've used, the bristles are a little "mushy" and lack spring. It can be used for edge highlighting ('Eavy Metal style) but its best used for base coating and washes. In summary: I've tried now the DaVinci, W&N, and Raphael and hands down the DaVinci is my go to brush for anything requiring detail. I love this brush!

What a wonderful brush ! Series 35 #1 will now be my go to hands down. I’ve tried many other high end brushes and they have all fallen short. The brush load is absolutely fantastic and it will just glide on your miniature. The shape is razor sharp and like all Da Vinci brushes just looks amazing. I have Da Vinci series 10 brushes and even those don’t compare to this one… I’m def going to buy more of this exact same brush just to have around. When something is this good you don’t gripe about the price. In life you have to pay for quality. This is most def one of those things… it’s truly an amazing paint brush. I’ve had Rafael, W&N, AO and many others and I’ve always felt like I was wasting my money in the long run. Series 35 is on of those rare things that just leaves you happy when you use it.

I wanted a kolinsky brush for painting minis so i bought a bunch of Windsor & Newton series 7 in several sizes and they were all trash.They were hands down the worst brush i have ever used in any price range,so i ordered this beauty.The handle has little flat spots so it doesn't roll across the table and feels great in the hand.The brush holds a amazing point,the best out of any brush i have personally used.The tip is a little longer then most brushes so its perfect for getting in weird places and doing details.Get your self a size 1 and you will be able to even do tiny eye balls.And then get your self a size 2 for base coating and you should be set.Never need another brush except maybe for dry brushing and stippling.I personally will only buy this brush from here on out.

I have never written a product review in my life, but this brush absolutely earned one. The price was only a small step above the mediocre brushes I usually find locally, yet the jump in performance was massive. What impressed me most was not just the sharp point or paint capacity, but how consistently and smoothly it releases paint in a controlled way every time. For miniature painting, that meant techniques like glazing, fine detail, and tiny lines suddenly felt easier and far more reliable. I am not a professional painter, just a hobbyist, and this brush made the hobby more exciting because it finally felt like the tool was helping me instead of fighting me. If you are on the fence because of price, I can honestly say the difference was worth far more than the extra cost.

Brush was spectacular, sadly, I was unable to use it. I excitedly opened a large SABLE brush my husband bought me for my birthday, and to kick off Level 2 in my watercolor career. The brush arrived, rolling around in an empty box. No protective plastic card to house the brush either. Many hairs were sticking out in all directions, never to be in place again. The entire brush looked like a very bad hair day. And it's been 2 weeks with no date in sight for an exchange. Unbelievable and utter lack of quality. Some minimum wage earner who couldn't care less, just earning their keep. My neighborhood art store will be appalled by this practice, and I DO plan on reiterating such an abysmal lack of care. So sad...

Excellent davinci series 35 brush. I should get them earlier.

nice quality brush. of course with any brush you get from here, you run the risk of it being damaged, and this one was no exception. the cap was placed on it with some of the bristles bend backwards. i was able to reset the bristles and it works fine, but you would hope that with brushes of this price and quality, they'd be more careful in how they pack them. i'll say that the series 35 brush has more of a long tapered point to them, not as sharp as a raphael 8408 but longer than a series 7. it's also very narrow, almost like a rigger. the width of the ferrule on my size 4 is about the same as the ferrule on my raphael 8408 size 2. the bristles are also very soft, softer than either the raphael or winsors.

I really don't like to have a lot of brushes in my "quiver". But I can tell you that brush has definitely found a permanent place in my collection. Just to be clear (since these reviews apply to several different brushes depending on options you choose) I am referring to the da Vinci Watercolor Series 35 Maestro Paint Brush, Round Long Taper Kolinsky Red Sable, Size 3 (35-03). It is very comfortable to hold with a rounded triangular handle, it keeps a super fine point, and it holds water and color very well. the bristles are pretty soft, so I wouldn't ever recommend this for acrylic, but for watercolor it's perfect.

Using a size 1 to paint some w40k space marines, beauty of a brush, comes to a very nice point once it takes on some paint, and the extra bristle length makes it easier to hold paint on the tip and belly without gunking up the ferrule. It handles great and I find it precise enough to do fine detail work as well as blocking in colors, though I use my big cheap brushes for bulk work. I will ammend this review if I find its durability lacking.

Excelent for watercolour painting. It is an expensive brush but it is worth it, if you're looking for a soft pointy watercolour brush. It takes a lot of water and it is easy to clean.

Very nice, delivery on time

I’d been using cheaper brushes and just assuming I wasn’t a very good painter, this brush changed that immediately. It holds paint properly, lets paint flow off evenly, and is a huge step up in control. The tip on this one is beautifully sharp and the extra‑long taper makes it better in every way than the cheaper brushes I'd been using before.
