Speaking into the Air: A History of the Idea of Communication

I don't even know where to start. This is such a beautiful book. If you are interested in communication or media in general, it's going to be a treat. If you're not, you'll find out you actually are, by the time you finish this book. Written in a haunting poetic prose that nonetheless delivers the highest analytical level, Peters will have you sitting in the verge of your seat as you go with him through a story of humanity's discoveries in matters of sound and media.

This is an awesome. Deep thinking, thoughts provoking ideas. Well written too.. I loved the part about Socrates and Jesus

An excellent polemic on the historical changes in the ways people have thought about communication. Some readers may need to be familiar with the texts the author cites. The language is rich. I wish he would have spent more time with Dewey and with the process nature of communication, but you can't do everything.

I read this book. Very interesting read. I bought it for a grad school course I took earlier this fall. The shipp er was prompt with delivery of this item.

A bit of a hard book to understand, makes communication sound very complicated. But it is very interesting.

I can't think of another book that expanded my understanding as profoundly as this one did. Buy three copies, so that you have two to give away after you finish.
