Rey, Poe Dameron, Rose Tico, and BB-8 are finishing up a simple assignment to retrieve much-needed supplies for the struggling Resistance when they receive a distress call from the planet Minfar. Although they have orders to return to the Resistance immediately, Rey and the others decide they can't ignore someone in need -- especially someone who needs help against the First Order. When they arrive on Minfar, they are greeted by the Zixon, a peaceful, warm-hearted species who suffered under the Empire and are now at risk of falling to the First Order. Despite being vastly outnumbered by First Order forces, Rey and her friends vow that they will fight to protect the Zixon -- or what else does the Resistance stand for? Rey, Poe, Rose and BB-8 will have to face stormtroopers, deadly flying creatures, and even a Star Destroyer to keep Minfar safe and strike a blow against the First Order!

Good
This is a short, one-off, young-adult story set between the events of The Last Jedi (a few months after the battle of Crait) and The Rise of Skywalker. While out on a supply run, Rey, Poe, and Rose receive a distress call from a planet called Minfar. They discover The First Order is enslaving the locals and help to fight them off. This is a novel that is ancillary to the "main" storyline novels but is still considered canon like everything that gets put out under the Star Wars banner post-Disney's buyout of Lucasfilm. It is a short book, just over a couple hundred pages, and an easy read. The story is pretty basic, which is not all that surprising given that it is a children's novel, but it is enjoyable enough for adults. It does not really have any obvious tie-ins to The Rise of Skywalker but does give readers a bit of an idea of what the characters were up to between the movies.Chances are if you collect the books you are going to get this. If you get just some of the novels and not others, I would not say it is a must-read but it is enjoyable.

Quick and fun
This was a quick read, with a bunch of short chapters that makes it an ideal bedtime story for a kid, or one that you can read a little bit at a time when waiting in a line

A novel-length reminder that "The Rise of Skywalker" is coming out in December.
Part of the “Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” multimedia project that’s currently enveloping the “Star Wars” novel and comic lines, “Spark of the Resistance” is the first canon release of the line, as well as – unless I’ve missed something major – the first major piece of “Star Wars” fiction we’ve gotten that’s set post-“Episode XIII.” For those fans who read that and immediately start to nerd out, let me quickly put a bit of a damper on your excitement: there be no major revelations found here (unless you count the fact that the First Order is still evil and the Resistance is still fighting back). Writer Justina Ireland plays things pretty safe, both in her writing style and in her plotting – this isn’t the most slam-bang exciting of “Star Wars” novels, nor is it the most boring (“Thrawn,” I’m looking at you). Mostly, it’s a diverting-enough stopgap, clearly designed to help build excitement for the upcoming movie for those not in-the-know, while also giving die-hard fans something to nibble on in the interim. While the lack of juicy nuggets is a bit of a bummer, the disappointment is mitigated ever so slightly when you consider that a.) the novel is clearly written for a younger demographic, one likely less interested in digging deep into the canon than the typical “Star Wars” fan, and b.) that Episode IX is officially less than two months away (!!!). “Spark of the Resistance” may not be the most rousing of “Star Wars” novels, but as a tee-up for “The Rise of Skywalker,” it wets the palate well enough

A fine children's book!
In this lovely junior book, Rey, Rose, Poe and BB-8, return from a mission aboard the Millennium Falcon when they pick up a distress call on a Resistance secret channel. When they arrive to the origin planet, they find a First Order warship and while avoiding TIE Fighters, their ship is damaged and they must land.On the surface of the planet, they find a new rodent-like alien species, who have been fighting the First Order who are on the look for a powerful weapon kept on abandoned Imperial laboratories. This search is led by an inept First Order officer and an alien scientist. The Resistance members and their new friends must work together, with some unexpected help, to defeat the First Order and prevent them from obtaining the dangerous weapon. This is interesting and with some tidbits regarding the reconstruction of the Resistance. Besides it has excellent illustrations by Phil Noto.

A well done on the book and worth while to get.
The book is a little different for the way it was written but it was well done and enjoyed reading it. The author did find a way to keep you reading the book , they came up with ways to keep it interesting. Good jobs.

A delightful Star Wars romp!
I read this fun book in a single sitting, because I couldn’t put it down. The characterization is wonderful and the adventure is very Star Wars. I truly enjoyed seeing Rey, Rose, Poe, and BB-8 all have an adventure together. The new characters were great, especially Glenna. And the First Order commander was hilarious!

Quick read at a middle school level
It's a junior novel, do not expect thing to be explained with great detail, it's a quick read and perhaps/hopefully one of the characters shows up in different media. At least Try having issues to get on touch with the force is also shown in the comics

So Much Fun!
A Fun Romp that allows the reader to spend some with Rey, Rose, and Poe and see their dynamics together. Great for younger readers but can be enjoyed by all
