My main use for these disks is an archive of family pictures. We have over 3,000 photographs. The source scans alone consume 6TB (scans are all high-resolution .tiff files.) The server runs Ubuntu Linux, the File system is all Open ZFS, mirrored, and redundant. A total of 10 drives are used, cached and logged, etc. All the drives came from Evrymm via Amazon. I started with 4TB drives and now expanded to 6TB units. One of the original 4TB drives failed recently. Luckily it was the backup array that failed, not the main store. The drives are excellent value. They are quiet, vibration-free, and just warm running. I cannot tell if these are used drives. they perform just like new ones. Drives arrive in a good package and look as clean and damage-free as new ones. I see no reason to pay for new drives, even mission-critical applications. Just arrange your storage wisely - you should do that anyway.

I'm using these in a Synology NAS. They work great and when I received them I ran the synology drive checker utility, everything came back fine. For the price these are a great deal, if you are looking for pristine drives with <10 hours spend the money and buy new. I've had other used HGST drives running in a plex server or NAS for about 5 years now without issues.

For a $60 previously used harddrive, I don't have much expectation other than it being functional. The drive was at least shipped in a cardboard box with adequate shock-proofing. The unit I was shipped had a total power-on time of 4.6 years, had written a total of 2.4EB and read a total of 2.0EB. According to SMART, reallocated sector counts (ID:5), spin entry counts (ID:10), reallocated event count (ID:196), current pending sector (ID:197), and offline uncorrectable (ID:198) counts are all zero. The drive passed both a short and extended self SMART test. Also, it seems that the seller initiated two vendor specific self-tests (IDs 0x70 and 0x71) that both passed right before shipping the drive to me. It passed a randomized read-write badblocks tests. Overall, it's an old drive, but functional. Will update in the future if/when it dies. EDIT(2022-12-31): SMART reported that 8 sectors were reallocated today. This is suggestive of imminent drive failure. Drive is still functional and I was able to immediately export the data off to another drive. I filed for a replacement and it was accepted by Amazon. Will update the review once the new drive arrives.

These drives run a bit hotter than most consumer drives, but that’s what you get with 7200 rpm server drives. Zero issues so far, but since it is used, I would only recommend it for systems with redundancy (parity drives or backups). It’s been humming along in my unRAID media server for close to a year now.

I ordered "Good condition" Amazon Renewed drives. Approximately 4.5 years of running time on each, but no SMART errors or defects found with Stablebit Scanner. Good deal!

I was hoping these were low usage but it seems they are very old and hardly refurbished. I checked the two disks I received after installing them into an external enclosure. They appear to my desktop workstaion as sdc and sdd. I bought 4 more of this exact drive from a different vendor in Garland Texas and their drives must have come from the same source as they were also powered on for 6-years. I guess someone large got rid of a lot of NT servers (they all had NTFS partitions. Unlike the two drives purchased on Amazon, these 4 did not have any data wiped. The two drives I purchased from Amazon were sealed but they were sealed in an anti-static bag and delivered in a shock-mounted cradle. As I mentioned, they had been wiped first. I am not too happy that the drives have 6-years power on time and the price should be lower despite inflation. If the vendor really did "refurbish" these drives I'd like to hear what they do as part of their refurbishment, do they have a clean room and were any components replaced as part of the refurbishment? OK, you know I don't expect to ever hear about that from the vendor here but I thought I would just let you know. There is nothing wrong with what they are doing but being powered on for six years means they will fail any day now. I suppose I would still purchase these drives as spares for my NAS so that I could buy time to order a new disk. The problem is I am not sure if I can find another model or manuf. that is compatible for my QNAP NAS, this is the only 6TB disk listed for my model NAS. Put this in our Drobo and has been a super trooper. We have Time Machine backups going to the little guy and with two mac's, it runs almost 24/7. No issues, no complaints. Solid reliability.

Within 3 days I had 3 of 4 drives fail, not worth the hassle.
