Perfect mix of optimism, pessimism, love and loss
This album has been my musical accompaniment to the glorious summer we’re having. Mr Maltese has a way with words that really captures the attention and he’s a dab hand with a tune as well. I think the album sounds something like what would happen if Morrisey and Neil Hannon went on a night out and ended up in a piano bar. Really good stuff - highly recommended.

A brilliant debut
A good songwriter with a fantastic voice. Shades of the Divine Comedy's Neil Gannon both in voice and wit. For a debut, this is a great album.

This Charming Man!
Comparisons (favourable) have been made to Morrissey. That’s probably fair but also far from the whole picture.I saw Matt supporting the wonderful Isaac Gracie and was immediately smitten by his wry smile and clever lyrics. The two artists made a perfect pairing.Matt’s showmanship is carefully measured. He is both witty and romantic - think Neil Hannon/Divine Comedy - with more than a hint of lush jazzy orchestration (the album has a much fuller sound than the organ-driven live show). This is a gentle friendly album (with just a hint of ‘There is a light that never goes out’ era Smiths). Poetic would be a good word perhaps. The effing and jeffing in (my fave) ‘Like a fish’ only add to the variety from this excellent and engaging new talent.Go and see the boy live - while he’s still playing intimate venues.

Superb - nothing not to like
Like another reviewer I witnessed Matt supporting Isaac Gracie and saw through the slightly lacking live performance to the superb voice and beautifully crafted songs. A modern 'crooner', Matt delights with his witty lyrics, lush melodies and has made an utterly brilliant debut album.
