Power brick saved my data!
Well, the other morning I woke up to over 800 email notifications from my 6 year old Synology DS-918+, each one stating "abnormal power" on each different drive. The final E-Mail was that Storage Pool 1 was crashed. And here I thought having a one drive fault tolerance would be good enough to protect 30 years worth of documents, photos, music, and movies. If one fails then I'll just throw a new drive in, rebuild the array, and carry on. How wrong I was. It wasn't until I actually started think about what was actually irreplaceably important out of all that that I started freaking out and had an anxiety/panic attack last night. And then this power brick showed up today. My NAS is currently powered up, accessible, and copying all of the important stuff to both Storage Pool 2 on the DX517 Expansion module as well as to a standalone SATA drive plugged into a different system that I'll store elsewhere. One drive is "crashed" and in read-only mode. Fine, fine. I'll take it out, format it in a different system, replace it, and rebuild the array. The other one has a "System Partition Failed". Ok on that one too...that's a future problem to resolve. All drives report Healthy, so that's another plus...it's just the file system that has a problem. So...this purchase was worth every single penny and saved my sanity. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with all of the stock in Tums that I just purchased though. :D I've also got a new-open-box DS-920+ on the way. I'll throw 4 of my old 8TB drives in it, copy my data to it as well, plop it over at a friend's house, and figure out how to do remote syncing. This will not happen again!

Lost a 10TB WD Red Pro HDD
Purchased this on 05/06/2024, and it died on 02/02/2026, connected to my Synology DS918+ NAS, and lost a WD Red Pro 10TB drive because of it. Thankfully, I'm running RAID5 and can swap in a new drive, but now I'm out $250+ for a new drive thanks to this thing failing. The power failure caused 2 drives to have issues (one entering Critical condition and another needing me to Repair System Partition). Thankfully, I saved one of the drives, but the other is dead in the water. I use a heavy-duty backup battery 600VA UPS, which was connected to as well, so it's not like there was a surge or power failure that caused anything else to happen. My recommendation: Buy a better brand and/or OEM external power supply for your NAS if the OEM dies.

Power Supply failed almost exactly 3 years from purchase
Update: The seller very promptly offered to replace the power supply after submitting a warranty claim! Top marks for customer service!! Five stars for the CS team :) This power supply has been working great in my Synology DS918 since purchase 3 years ago. I received an abrupt message about unstable power supply within DSM and across all 4 drives. Upon rebooting, the system would not spin up the drives. Researching online, this is a problem when not having enough amperage to spin the drives up, Synology just sort of hangs because it cant boot the OS which are stored on the drives. I have never used a warranty for anything purchased off of Amazon, but I am reaching out to the seller to see if they will honor the 3-year warranty they claim. I will update this review upon hearing back from them.

Works with DS420+
About 4 years ago, in 2020, I bought a DS420+ to replace my aging 2-bay Synology NAS. One day, I found that it was powered off and I couldn't power it on. In my attempt to troubleshoot it, I decided to give a replacement power supply a shot. This power supply was able to power it on, indicating that the original Synology branded power supply had gone bad after 4 years of flawless operation. If you run into a similar situation where you need a replacement power supply for your Synology NAS, look no further. This appears to be a quality product that works just like the original Synology power supply.

Replacement Power Supply for DS418Play
Woke up one morning to my Diskstation being offline. It had been doing that lately about one a month but I couldn't figure out why, there were no logs and it was on a UPS. So, I went and hit the power button and it whirred up, lights came on, disks clicked and then - off again. I checked the plugs, made sure things were snug and hit the button again, this time it didn't even get as far as the previous time. The unit was six days out of warranty. My AMEX card gave a 1 year extended warranty but required an estimate to repair - Synology would not provide the estimate since they don't make that one anymore. My local PC repair shop wouldn't quote on it. So, out of luck. Searching around online I found a few things it could be. Replacing the power supply was the easiest (others required me to do some soldering on the board) but since it wasn't a sure thing I decided to go with this no-brand power supply. It did the trick and one year on it's still going strong. So if you have a DS418Play and it starts shutting down this might be the fix you're looking for.

Failed outside warranty and almost lost all my data
Failed after 5 years with my Synology DS416play. I know the warranty is only 3 years, but still - it failed silently and exacerbated Synology's terrible performance and unreliability. I'm writing this to inform people that despite the reviews, these items fail unexpectedly and only partially, making them a liability if you actually care about the data on your NAS. I bought this item due to losing the official brick in a house move. Like another review, only 2 of my drives out of 4 would work. I didn't know this until a week-long data scrubbing failed, and then had to diagnose what was going on. It seemed like 3 out of my 4 drives failed at the same time. In the process of diagnosis, I reset DSM (DiskStation Manager - the OS for Synology NASes) and had to reinstall, which I couldn't do without wiping the drives. So I pulled them and put in an older drive to put DSM on, hoping I could recover data at least. After this is when I did more web searching and found others stating that replacing the power brick fixed their similar issues. Unfortunately, now I had a DSM install on a worthless pool, and I can't find a way to reassemble my 4 drives into their one pool without moving the data off somewhere else first, as my pool uses Synology's proprietary SHR technology instead of RAID, and nothing else can read it, plus DSM can't be transferred from the main pool to a 2nd from what I can find. So instead I'm piecemealing data manually onto 3 different drives, because I don't have one drive big enough to hold it all. And then I'll have to reinstall DSM again and copy the data back. Which I'm not going to do - I'm buying an Asustor NAS instead. Very frustrating, and I almost lost all my data to save $30 on an AC adapter. Of course, I have other complaints with Synology and their underperforming hardware. TL;DR - if you bought this, throw it out the second the warranty is up. If you're thinking about buying one, buy the KVR version or the official one instead. And be prepared as a consumer to keep another backup on another drive that costs $400 to $500 right now to make sure your $500 NAS with $1000 worth of drives doesn't explodicate due to a $30 power brick. Kevin Malone TL;DR - no buy. get real one

Replacement to fix my dying 918+
The power adapter on my 918+ died and I thought I needed a new unit but from other people online I saw replacing the ac adapter fixed the issues in a lot of cases and saved me a big headache.

Fail after 9 months, don't buy it!
The power supply fails after 9 months... But it takes 3 weeks for many issues on my disks to die. Initially, I was thinking many of my Ironwold disks failed... Finally, I have a chance to have a friend with the same NAS, it tested this original power supply and the NAS and disks were working perfectly. Based on the previous review it's poor customer service & imaginary 3-year warranty. I have no idea who to contact to use the warranty! I do not recommend this product! I bought one from Synology directly, 63 USD + Shiping I used the support page because I didn't find a way to order it on the website.
