very effecent
Bought this for small 2 be rm lake house. Went from a 4 or 6 gal elec.that I had to shut off shower while soaping to have enough water to rinse off. Guests had to space time between their showers when coming in from swimming. With the new tankless unit I have hot water as long as I need. Also when kids or guests are there there will be no waiting for heater to reheat. Two very slight minuses, A very slight flow reduction and a very slight temp change when the well pump cycles on and off. I like it so well that I well be installing the same heater in my home plus a tankless gas for large volumes of water.

Works well as long as it works - developed leak after 2 years
I really liked these little guys: I have purchased 3 of the 7.2 and 9.2's and successfully installed them in mine, and my family's homes around Phoenix Arizona. Needless to say, Phoenix is the perfect place for something like this since the city water supply is almost always quite warm to start with. Unfortunately, the unit in my house developed a pinpoint hole in one of the heating tubes that leaked copious amounts of water, which went unnoticed while I was away (Murphy's law I suppose). It was replaced with another that failed in the same way. I have not had any help, or responses from customer support inquiries requesting warranty service information. They're kind of cheap so, I don't mind just throwing them away but, I'd rather have them fixed for use in non-critical places (like the whirlpool tub), but the manufacturer isn't giving me information one way or the other... When it comes to my house, I don't wait for the manufacturer to reach 3 strikes - water damage always entails a lot of repair and clean-up. I won't be buying these again (warranty service is important to me, as is never needing it).

Okay for a short period of time. High rate of failure
Installed in kitchen sink. Have gone through two different units in 4.5 years. water initially comes out scalding hot, then tempers back down to a good hot flow. Both units had that 'feeature'. First unit developed a short in the electronics and would work sporadically; The second unit blew a pipe inside the unit and flooded the cabinet by the time we could get the water turned off to it. Fortunately we were at home and in the room when it happened. Bosch support was great with the first failure, so they get an A. With the second failure - I decided to switch to a different product.

Do not expect hot water shower
If you own a small vacation cabin like me , it is OK for a short quick warm shower. I do not recommend this for a large house. I wish I have purchased 1.5 GPM instead of this one.

works well for our family.
The water heater takes a little getting used to, as the water takes a little time to heat up, but warms plenty of water for showers or whatever we need. And it was much less expensive than a traditional electric water heater.

Don't install yourself
The first page of the product manual states that this product should be installed by a professional and that the manual be given to the owner after installation. I am a long time do it yourself-er and former maintenance man; I knew I could do this... truthfully I could and did, but it stretched me. First I had to run a 220 line from my power box to the area of installation, next I had to mount the device and install the power line, finally I had to cut into my 3/4" water line, under my house and create a separate cold water line for the device. It is true I could have split my existing 1/2" cold water line with simple tubing, but that would have lowered the overall water pressure. After all was complete I hit the power switch on and let the water flow, instantly I had very hot water (Nice!) Previous to this I had an on demand water heater for the whole house, it works well, but it takes to long to get to the kitchen sink. That is when I had the idea to get this device. It really is nice having instant hot water and not have to wait and waste a lot of water waiting for it to get from one side of the house to the where I need it. On the down side the water pressure is a little less than I am used to from my big on demand water heater, but I think this is do to the small internal tubing that allows the device to heat water so quickly; however the hot water is not meant to be used by itself and when it is mixed with cold water there really is no noticeable difference in water pressure. I've only had the device for about a month now, but with a name like Bosh I expect it to last a long time. Also there is an internal setting in the device that allows you to turn down the hot water so that only one burner goes off instead of two. I personally would rather have very hot water that I can mix with cold, but I imagine this setting would be helpful to some. There is also a light in the device that shows when it is working. Pros: Instant hot water Trusted name brand 2 different heat settings Cons: Experience installer needed Pressure a bit low from device

PowerStar AE 7.2 Danger
I installed this unit in Jan 2006. Performance was ok for fast hot water at a remote sink location. The only problem had been the necessity to reset the thermal switch about once a year. Inspection reveavled nothing wrong until today. This morning the regulator inside caught fire and started the plastic casing on fire also. Circuit breakers never tripped. Lots of smoke and 3" flames coming out of the box alerted my wife. With the CBs turned off the fire went out. If this had happened tomorrow it might have burned down the house and killed the cats as we will be away overnight. Use this product at your own risk.

Not what I wanted and then it leaked
My unit is 3 years old and I just removed it because it started leaking. I caught it before the damage was major. I never liked how it worked. I first hooked it to my hot water line. The water was too cold until the hot water arrived and then it was way too hot. I expected it to have a thermostat but it is only an emergency hot water shut off. I tried hooking it to the cold water line and the water was only luke warm. I won't be buying another Bosch water heater
