I swabbed my cat just after he passed . Can I use these swabs?

Yes, we have worked with such samples and will try to get DNA from that swab, but timing is very important. Please send us an email ASAP to meow@basepaws.com for more instructions on how to store/send that swab to our laboratory. We are very sorry for your loss :(

I don't understand the wildcat portion. housecats are descendants of an african wildcat, occasionally crossed with other small cats. where do come in?

While we know that our domestic housecats aren't directly descended from some of the classic wildcats like tigers and cheetahs, this is a fun comparison that is similar to when we put our human handprints compared to those of all other primates. In our database, some cats are indeed closer in various phenotypes to some wildcats than others!

What machine are you using for sequencing and what polymerase are you using?
