We present here the very finest examples of this ever popular genre that had its heyday in the late 1950s and early 1960s, with hit after hit from the likes of The Shads, The Ventures, Johnny & The Hurricanes to name but a few. Included are many tunes that have since been used in blockbuster Hollywood films along with some of the more obscure tracks from the era.

Classics, Rarities, and Head-Scratchers
This collection has the obvious artists you'd look for in an instrumental collection. Duane Eddy, The Ventures, Dick Dale, The Shadows, and Link Wray are well represented. Less obvious, but equally cool songs from Sandy Nelson and Freddie King are here. But the highlights for me are lesser known songs from Bert Weedon, The Chapparals, and The Frantics. I love discovering great vintage music that I haven't heard before. Most of the tracks are pure 50's and 60's rock n' roll - in the rockabilly and surf veins. A couple have a New Orleans flavor (one is from Dr. John under his real name, Mac Rebennack). Like any large collection, there are bound to be a few clunkers. I could do without the three Johnny & The Hurricanes songs. All of them are rocked-up versions of old folk chestnuts, with organ playing that sounds like a beginner's first day at the roller-rink. And then there's SPACE GUITAR by Johnny Guitar Watson. It's equally fascinating and annoying, with its uneven rhythm and incendiary blues licks. As Frank Zappa said, "He wasn't playing off the beat or around it, he was just yelling at you." And then there's TELEGRAPH by The Atmospheres, an experiment in one-note minimalism that offers minimal rewards. But don't dwell on the low points. The high ones make this set worth buying.

Almost perfect
I really like music from the 50's and 60's and I find instrumental music very relaxing. This cd set is almost perfect. Unfortunately, it included a couple of instrumentals where the musician just kept playing the same cords over and over and...........over. Than, there were a couple where the musician was very good at making his guitar scream like it was in pain but not musical. ALMOST perfect.

CDs great! Some of the cuts I remember growing up. There are a few that aren't that good and I skip those. It's one that I drive around with the windows down and the sound up.

Auch die DCD "Rimshots & Reverb" the best in instrumental rock and pop (2013) ist sehr lohnenswert (2 CD a 30 Songs = 60). Rez.).
