Compared them to another brand's 34dB earmuffs
[+] THE REVIEW: I could not decide between this product and another product on Amazon, so I purchased both and compared them. The other product (link provided below) is rated at 34dB (EN 352-1 rating). I cannot find a rating for this product (no where on the box), but I purchased them because of the great reviews. I compared them by putting my HEPA air cleaner to level 3 (of 4) and then wearing each one in turn comparing the noise levels that could be heard. I moved toward and away from the air cleaner to notice any change in the noise levels. THE COMPARISON RESULTS: This product (ClearArmor 141001 Shooters Hearing Protection) out performed the other product just by a little bit. They were very close. I think the difference came down to the ClearArmor's headband applying more equal pressure around the ear thereby making a more uniform seal, thus blocking out more noise. The other product's headband applied more pressure to the bottom of the earmuff thereby allowing noise leakage toward the top of the earmuff. I tried applying pressure with my hands to form a more equal seal, and that helped a little, but still did not equal the ClearArmor. I have not worn these for long periods of time, so cannot speak to that. When I have something to report on that I will update the post. COMPARISON SUMMARY [10/22/2017 update] I thought I would add a little comparison summary: - Comfort: Fnova is more comfortable. - Noise Reduction: ClearArmor is quieter just by a little bit. - Construction of Unit: Fnova is just a little bit better constructed. - Padding: Fnova's padding around the ear is just a little bit softer Basically, if you're looking for comfort if you need to wear them a long time, then I would recommend Fnova. If you're looking for the maximum noise reduction (e.g., use at a shooting range) for shorter period of time, then i would recommend ClearArmor. I compared this product too: Fnova 34dB Highest NRR Safety Ear Muffs - Professional Ear Defenders for Shooting, Adjustable Headband Ear Protection / Shooting Hearing Protector Earmuffs Fits Adults to Kids [+] COMFORT LEVEL AFTER WEARING A COUPLE OF HOURS [10/13/2017 update] I have now worn this product for about a couple of hours and did notice that it became slightly uncomfortable to wear. Surprisingly, the Fnova (product I compared these too) ended up being more comfortable to wear. Remember, the Fnova were just a little less effective in blocking noise, but it turns out they are more comfortable to wear. I did take the advice of others and stretch out the ClearArmor pair for 24 hours, but I have not yet had the chance to wear them to see if it makes them more comfortable to wear. Stretching them out, however, did lesson the pressure against the head, so it would make sense they would now be more comfortable to wear. I will update when I have had a chance to wear them again. [+] STRETCHED THEM OUT FOR MORE COMFORT [10/29/2017 update] I did try to stretch the ClearArmor out like some of the reviewers have suggested by putting a box between them for a day. It did stretch them out a little which made them a little more comfortable, but I still find them a little more uncomfortable than the Fnova to wear. This isn't necessarily a bad thing because the ClearArmor does do a better job at noise reduction, so if you're using them for a shooting range such that you are not going to wear them for hours on end like I do, then the ClearArmor is the better choice. In my experience, I could wear these for a hour with no problems of discomfort. [+] BLOCKS OUT NOISE OF VITA-MIX [3/15/18 update] I purchased a decibel meter ( VLIKE LCD Digital Audio Decibel Meter Sound Level Meter Noise Level Meter Sound Monitor dB Meter Noise Measurement Measuring 30 dB to 130 dB Date Logger Tester ) and measured how loud my Vita-mix is when it is on its highest setting; it is about 100 dB. I tried wearing these to block out the noise and do they work! Wow, is all I can say. Of course I can hear the Vita-mix, but the high pitched noise the Vita-mix makes on high is so muffled that it doesn't even bother me to have it running with these on. I was really surprised. These block out about 34 Db (based on the comparison to the other brand), but they must do an even better job at blocking out higher pitch noises at even higher decibels. Vita-mix should think about including this product inside their product's box. Their customers would be even more happy. Highly Effective, Great Value
I originally purchased these noise-reduction earmuffs for studying in the library - the whispers and chatter of fellow patrons was highly distracting. In this capacity alone, the earmuffs were 100% effective in eliminating the low-level sound distractions I had been experiencing and therefore merit a five-star rating. They are comfortable and able to be worn for hours at a time without becoming uncomfortable. However, my favorite use for the earmuffs was entirely unexpected. I live in New York City and ride the subway an hour each way to and from school. The subway is loud, the performers which frequent the trains are loud, even listening to music the entire way with my Sennheiser CX300 II CX 300 II Precision Enhanced Bass Earbuds, which themselves reduce a fair amount of the ambient noise, the experience is less than ideal. The game-changing moment was when I decided to wear the ClearArmor earmuffs over my earbuds - the result was nothing short of extraordinary. I can actually LISTEN to my music now in the highly noise-polluted subways of New York City. I'm currently in the library writing this review in a secluded carrel, listening to music with the earmuffs on over them, and I feel like I'm the only person in the building. There is absolutely no ambient sound whatsoever. Save yourself the hundreds of dollars you would spend on noise-cancelling headphones, buy a pair of quality earbuds like those from Sennheiser and pair them with the ClearArmor 141001 earmuffs. You will not regret it. This is honestly perhaps the best purchase I've ever made on Amazon, it has had a tremendous impact on my daily commute and ability to study without distraction, which is critical as I am student in law school. Excellent product. Five-stars all the way.

Fit was a bit snug and tight - otherwise good.
I purchased these hearing protectors because of the high noise reduction rating (NRR 34) hoping that they would provide welcome additional noise attenuation when I am working as a range safety officer at a large indoor range. Upon receiving the ear muffs I noted that the quality appears to generally be good and the protection appears to rely on conventional sound reduction materials forming a thick sound barrier. Wearing the ear muffs revealed that they do indeed provide a good level of protection - reducing ambient noise to a very tolerable level. I can recommend these to anyone who needs such protection; but, with one qualification, the fit. I do have a head that needs one of the larger hat sizes - usually 7 5/8 - but other than that my physical characteristics seem pretty normal. The headgear on these ear muffs was a tight fit for me and the spring pressure normal to the head and ears is very high. this may have been a design decision to help maintain a tight seal and contribute to effective noise reduction; but I found them uncomfortable when worn for more than a short period of time. I think these would be very good for someone who needs protection from intermittent loud noise - like noisy machines operating for brief periods. If the size and configuration of the wearers head and ears is such that these are a comfortable fit then I can highly recommend them as being effective and if they had been a better fit for me I would have given them 5 stars, I do wish the headgear was different so that I could wear them for longer periods - since they are uncomfortable for me though I wear a different set of hearing protectors when I am going to have extended exposure.

Five Stars
geart product :) super comfy I don't know why people complain about it being too tight or not doing the job, unless they are aliens and have egg shaped heads it fits fine i wore it for 4-6 hours and didn't even notice it :), and this is on top of the fact that I wear glasses and I have a larger than average head size, and for sound isolation its wonderful, obviously it doesn't block everything but pretty much everything and lowers the loud annoying noise to that of humming bird wings :) which is nice :) and in most cases I hear nothing or hardly anything at all I tried them under several conditions, at home I don't hear anything from the street at all, the only thing I hear is my tinitus sadly :( , outside what ever sounds there are are extremely muffled and very very low and I hear the vibration of my feet touching the ground louder than most other sounds, but that vibration is not a sound, its not hearing the foot steps like a sound traveling into your ear, its having the energy pass through your body kind of like hearing crunchy food, somehow that vibration travels through your body bones and makes it into the ear canal that way, and well if you can hear that over everything else, then the head phones are fantastic, tried them at school, works lovely, tested them with loud speakers and it works great, lowers the loud music very well and I added noise isolation ear plugs and together they are a dynamic duo :) of -60 DB I heaven't used them for construction work like some reviewers claim and claim it is not satisfactory, how ever I did pass by a construction crew who were tearing up the pavement with jack hammers and hardly noticed it, in fact I kind of panicked a bit because I wasn't sure how safe it was to come close to them since I could not hear them and I took off the headphones to compare and damn it was pretty loud without them, then on the train I saw a train worker with some massive bulky iso headphones that don't fold, and I was temped to let him know about these but he looked to be in a hurry IN SUM, THEY'RE GREAT :) GET 2 JUST IN CASE

Safety Earmuffs 34 dB Highest NRR work wonderfully! Also, our pets need protection from hearing loss too! :)
The Safety Earmuffs 34 dB Highest NRR are wonderful. Upon receipt, the safety earmuffs 34 dB were immediately put to use for completing a hardwood flooring installation project. The earmuffs felt like they provided a vacuum seal of virtual silence and fit snuggly around my ear, and have a firm, semi adjustable, vinyl sleeve covered, metal headband. They seem durable and well made. I noticed that my previously experience of intense and painful explosive sound from the bang of the flooring nailer was significantly quieter, muted, muffled; as if the "shots" seemed from very far away. My ears felt "protected" and since I have pretty good hearing, I could still hear "voices" of conversation but not specific words without speaking louder and making a purposeful effort. When no one was speaking and the nailers and compressor were not working, it was completely silent. My better half, who was operating the flooring nailer, air compressor, and pneumatic nailers, as he stapled Brazilian Cherry 3/4" hardwood planks into the plywood subflooring plywood, actually heard nothing. Nothing. He wondered what was wrong with the nailer, since it had previously been working fine, but then, when he couldn't hear the bang of the nailer (after putting on the earmuffs) he thought it had quit working or gotten jammed. He had to double check and investigate by running his finger along the wood tongue & groove indention to be sure the flooring nailer was still shooting out 1.5" staples every 6" into the plank that he was installing. Wow. That's pretty eerie. (punny) His hearing is not perfect, but these 34 high decibel safety earmuffs will insure that he won't lose any more of his hearing from loud noises. When I asked him how comfortable the 34 dB safety earmuffs were, he said that they felt "okay", "alright", and "would not fall off". I'm enclosing a few photos from our flooring project. Also, even though my dog, wanted to stay and help out, no matter how loud or explosive the noises, since Safety Ear Muffs for dogs are not yet available, to protect my dog's awesome hearing, she waited "patiently" in a back bedroom, removed from the high decibel explosive sounds of the flooring nailer. (Just encouraging everyone to remember to protect their pet's hearing too.) Another thing, oddly enough, my better half has taken to wearing the earmuffs all the time now.... :) Thank you Amazon and Gary West for excellent customer service!

Great product, good price!---Updated Review=Not such a good price.
***Update to my original review below; busting this down to just three stars since, like another reviewer mentioned (I guess I missed that review before buying these), there looks to be the same type of muffs sold under different names like "FSL Decimate Earmuffs" with the same NRR of 34dB for about $14...a huge percent less, so, now I kind of feel ripped off. : ( I bought both the Clear Armor Safety Ear Muffs and the Howard Leight Impact Sport OD Electric Ear Muffs (22 NRR) in the same order. The reason(s) for this are that I am a brand new shooter and get advice from more experienced shooters (one of whom told me to just get an inexpensive set of high NRR ear muffs rather than the roughly $300-$400 electric muffs I was considering), I wanted a less expensive pair for other, non-shooting uses, and I wanted one pair of electronic muffs in case I do handgun training which requires the electric muffs. At home, I tried each. For fit and comfort I'd give the higher marks to the Clear Armors, they have nice thick padding at the ear pads that feels softer and somehow, whether designed this way or not, seems to cover the ear much better than the Howard Leights, so, to me, it feels like there are suction cups over your ears. NOTE: this fit is with reading glasses on! So, it felt like my ears were totally covered, enveloped even with the reading glasses between the ear muff and my ear/head. I live in a noisy area (another reason to have ear muffs) and it just so happened that a neighbor either mowed or rototilled his yard while I tried both ear muffs in my apartment. The Howard Leights are supposed to cancel out very loud noises yet allow lower level noises to be heard. Well, the Howard Leights still let the loud noise of my neighbor's garden equipment in, they worked better turned off, while the Clear Armors noticeably let less noise in. Also, the Clear Armors have a nicer, more comfortable padded band for the head. I just tried both out at the range, with each I wore foam ear plugs with the muffs over, as is a pretty common practice among shooters wanting to protect their ears as much as possible. The shooting ranges I go to are indoor only, so all of the gun shot sounds are contained rather than dispersed or mitigated by being outdoors. I was shooting next to a group, only 2-2.5 feet away, who was using a shotgun. Again I'd have to give the higher marks to Clear Armor for comfort, fit and ability to protect my ears from more noise than the Howard Leight muffs. Now, I may find more or better uses for the Howard Leights (for example, the training I mentioned where I'd have to hear vocal instructions or commands from a firearm instructor, or in a home defense situation where I may need to hear voices yet protect my hearing from handgun or shotgun blasts), but I'd say if you just want a noise reducing pair of ear muffs for a very reasonable price that work great, get the Clear Armor muffs. Also note that I was shooting a handgun at the range, I don't yet own a shotgun or rifle. The absence of a cutout or area where one might align his cheek against the stock of a long gun is a potential drawback, I can't say if that would be a problem for me since I haven't tested that. The Howard Leight pair does have a slight cut out where a long gun stock might rest.

Extremely Pleased With This Product
Hi, all. I received my ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR last night, 28-January-2016; so, today, 29-January-2016, from 1100-1200 Hours PST, I went to the gun range to try them out; and, I am extremely pleased with its performance and comfort. I am not a sound engineer, audiologist, nor medical physician; so, my review is not going to be about all the technical stuff regarding sound and the physiological events and functions of the ear; rather, my review is gonna be about my experiences at the gun range while using this product. FACTS: - Gun Range: In the presence of shooters discharging cartridges: .45 caliber, .9mm, 38 special, and 40 caliber. - Distance: I was within 4 feet of each shooter - Duration: 1 hour - Indoor Gun Range - ~2 minutes no ear plugs -- just the ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR - ~58 minutes ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR with 32 dB NRR ear plugs During my first two minutes or so at the gun range, I wore the ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR without ear plugs; and, the sharp sounds of the exploding cartridges were gone. I heard the cartridges going off, but they sounded muffled at a lower volume -- I didn't feel the inside of my ears spike up -- the exploding cartridges from the guns sounded dull and at a low volume. With my other ear muffs, I have to double up by wearing my 32 dB NRR ear plugs -- not with ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR -- they do the job without having me to wear ear plugs. After around two minutes, I exited the range; and, I removed my ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR. My ears felt normal, and I didn't feel any discomfort; so, for me, the ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR definitely did its job of protecting my ears from the exploding cartridges at and within four feet of standing next to the shooters. Regardless of the ear muffs I use, I always wear ear plugs with my ear muffs whenever I go to the gun range. So, I inserted my 32 dB NRR ear plugs into each ear, and I put on my ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR, and I went back out to the range and met with the shooters. I stood within 4 feet of them, as they discharged their guns. With the ear plugs in and the ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR on, the cartridge explosions sounded like the level of a normal conversation I would have at a quiet dinner restaurant, and the explosions didn't sound like I was standing within 4 feet of the shooters -- the exploding cartridges felt like I was at a greater distance from the shooters even though I was at or within 4 feet of them. The sharpness of the exploding cartridges were all muffled out; and, I felt like my ears were relaxed. I am very pleased with my ClearArmor Safety Ear Muffs 34 dB NRR; for me, it is truly a great product that performs well in protecting my ears from the explosion of cartridges being discharged at the gun range. /s/ Alfonso Faustino
