As a craniosacral therapist trained in both these cranial approaches and prenatal and perinatal work (Castellino Method), I was very pleased to receive this book. Agustoni carefully lays out an overview of this approach in Part One, including history, purpose and a discussion of how family life has changed in the 21st century. Part Two presents the pre and perinatal period through the lens of a cranial practitioner. He gives special consideration to the birth process. Part Three defines elements, assessments and practice. In this section he provides detailed approaches to therapeutic choices, and there are many pictures. Part Four offers discussions and pointers for specific conditions.The language Agustoni uses is familiar to the cranial and the PPN practitioner. He cautions practitioners around intention, especially emphasizing the neutral. His description around the importance of presence is uplifting and also familiar to anyone understanding attachment and attunement. His way of describing the completion of incomplete sequencing as “rounding off” is simple and grounded, which is the basic tone for this volume. He provides many pictures of working with babies especially. He also discussed the importance of open questions, dialog and communication. He details how to do an intake for children with parents. I especially liked how he started with the question: What is working for your child or baby? I find his approach strength and resource based, well-paced, and grounded with spiritual and theoretical underpinnings regarding perception. He asks series after series of fantastic questions about the work you are doing as a professional, and he provides bullet-pointed steps to help with assessments and treatments of different conditions. His discussion of birth games, different aspects of birth process, and how to work on the table and/or the floor is also very helpful.The nearly 500 page volume is packed with information. I can read and reread sections and get something new each time. This book is something to savor.
