A wholesome, enlightened fantasy story that actually brings you closer to the Lord.
This is a fantasy book that brings you closer to God.As it should always be ideally. This story vibes with honesty, intelligence, and a sensible effort of faithfulness toward the Truth. The result is impressive, in quality of holiness compared to almost everything else.If you like Narnia, the faithfulness to the spirit of the bible surpasses it in this book.As far as I can tell, it's one that can humbly-proudly stand beside of Pilgrim's Quest in our library. The plot, the characterization and the battles were very high quality. The storytelling seems a bit amateur, agreed, the angels being too humanized (the fact they were spirits is only really made use of during the final battle, but not enough).Anyway, it's not a point that disappointed me too much.I hope the author will publish the next part of the series soon.

Brilliantly written
This author takes a little known scripture and gives us an insight into the willful transformation of Lucifer, shining angel into the evil Satan as the archangels battle to defeat and expel him from heaven. This takes place even before creation. Excellent!

Don't read it in a theological light!
I am sure that many will start reading this book and putting it in light of theological truths. Ellen intersperses the book with scriptures, and I believe she does a magnificent job of writing a book on a subject that the Bible does not discuss in great depth, without going over the edge. In other books that start in descriptions of, and discourses with God and Jesus I have felt that all conversations were lacking and seemed highly theological. Ellen brings a sense of holiness, tenderness, and beautiful reverence that I have never read before when talking about the Father and The Son. There is not much more that I can discuss without spoiling the story. I give this five stars because not only was it a great story-line, but it delved into the parts of the Bible that were present and brought more of the writers imagination into the story line. Also, reading this book left me hungry in my relationship with the Lord. I have started seeking to be closer to him because of things that I read in this book.

Gabriel
Since there are very few books on the winnowing (sorry Jane, I like the way you call it) I enjoyed the story. However, it seemed to me to be that the style it was written was a mix of modern old vernaculars and that made it a bit disjointed. Also, not once did any of the Archangels pray which seemed very odd to me. I mean their Archangels right? Prayer for them should be as natural as breathing is for us.

I have every one of her books and was never dissatisfied.
Traylor is an artist at taking the silent parts of Scripture and weaving them with Scripture to come out with a great story.

Gabriel - The War in Heaven (Gabriel - Gods Hero)
Although I have several of Traylor's books; this is not the first one that, HUH?? Did not feel almost embarrassed for the writer this time; absolutely DID feel a degree of discomfort. Again personal opine, this book started out fun but too soon got ridiculous and stayed there, altho I have the last Chapter yet to read; wat? 2 pages? Tried reading it with perspective (to spect:to see) (to respect: to look back and see again) (circumspect: to look all around it) and what comes after "X"? Expection or expectation. Certainly not what I was expecting, and I couldn't even consider it a tale for children, because the four Archangels are a Truth, although it seemed like that was where this one was going; a children's book. Most of it, imo, was simply silly.Have to wish Traylor would get a decent Editor. There are many editorial mistakes in not only this book but others she has published. She cuts a wide swathe from AWESOME, to mediocre, to too-sensual, but this one frosts the cake. What does she say about her imagination? She defines her's in this book. To me, a twisted spin imagination, particularly when Biblical passages by number are referenced.NOBODY is going to ever get "John - Son of Thunder" away from me, even with the embellishing, or 3-4 others created by E. Traylor.

Simple bt beautiful
I loved this book. It is a very easy read first of all, something one can do in a single sitting almost. The imagery of Heaven and especially of God on his throne with the Son and the Spirit. A beacon of glorious light. This is just as I imagine it. Thanks Ellen for a wonderful story, I'm halfway through Noah now and also enjoying it.

I loved it
This book is intriguing. It is different from most books written about heaven and angels. I love the way she brings life to each character, displaying their emotions: their shock and disbelief that evil could exist among them. After all, God has emotions, too. I am just waiting for the sequel -her next book in the series.

Enjoyable but very losely based on truth...
Enjoyable as fiction rather than solid bible account. Losely based on the bible. Angelic beings are heavily humanised which made it at times not believable. If you know your Bible really well, you will struggle at times to swallow this story. But I suppose it's nice as just a story as long as you don't think it is biblical!!
