Review: Good results - I think it gave me extra years with my cat. I was told Coot’s levels were elevated and we were looking at pre-kidney disease when she was about 15 years old. She hated the prescription foods so I tried Epakitin mixed into her usual food every day. She passed at 18 years old due to cancer, and her kidneys had outlasted all expectations. She remained quite healthy up until the very end. There’s no way to know for certain what would have happened without Epakitin, but I think it was well worth it.
Review: I think this saved my 16 y/o dog - My 16 y/o childhood dog’s health suddenly and very rapidly declined from September to November. She went from jumping 10 inches off the ground for food, to barely being able to stand. I was almost ready to say goodbye but decided to take her to the vet to see what our options were. She had ridiculously high kidney BUN levels and was diagnosed with stage 3 kidney failure. The vet recommended this, omega 3 oil, and prescription Hills Science Diet. 2 months later, she is still wobbly, but it looks like the life has returned to her eyes and body. She has enough energy to wag her tail and perk her ears, walk in the yard, and even go down the steps. It’s very easy to add to her food, she hasn’t had any aversions to it at all. I still need to get her bloodwork done to see if the values are lower, but by the amount of energy that has returned, I can assume they are.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: how long does it take for epakitin to begin working ....days, weeks?**
A: After being released from 4 days of hospitalization for acute renal failure, my cat became symptom-free and flourished (still flourishing) after 10 days of adding small amounts of Epakitin in her wet cat food. twice a day.

**Q: If a low phosphorus diet is prescribed, why does this product contain phosphorus?**
A: Epakitin is made from shellfish shells and they naturally contain phosphorus. The tiny amount of phosphorus in Epakitin is negligible. It's only eight ten-thousandths of one per cent or 0.0000008 gram phosphorus to 0.999992 gram of all the other ingredients in a one-gram dose. 0.0000008 + 0.999992 = 0.9999928, or (rounding up) 1 gram.

**Q: My cat refuses wet food, dry only - how can I administer these granules? Wish it was a pill.**
A: It has been a long time since we needed this powder. I believe you could mist the dry food with water or chicken broth to get the powder to stick to the dry food. We had to try quite a variety of wet foods before we found some that our cat would eat. Good luck.

**Q: I'm having a terrible time getting my cat to eat her medicated food. She dos not like the taste! Do any of you dose your cats with regular cat food?**
A: My cat with kidney disease never would eat the medicated renal diet. She had eaten mostly dry food and wouldn't eat moist kidney foods. But she happily took Fancy Feast broths and Hartz Delectables pouches. We give her one of each and put one capsule of AminAvast powder and one scoop of Epakitin powder in both times. She started out in stage 3 renal failure but her labs have slightly improved and have not worsened at all over 1.5 years, and she seems to feel quite well.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Using for CKD Kitty!
*by M***A on February 15, 2026*

Been using this product for years to assist in lowering the amount of phosphorus in cat food for my Chronic Kidney Disease kitty. While it' difficult to measure the effectiveness directly, his levels of phosphorus have been fairly stable. Product is consistent and mixes well with the food. Please consult your vet for consultation before beginning any new product. My personal vet , as well as many CKD cat sites, recommended this product in our case.
