Silly and Ridiculous but Funny!
I must admit that this is absolutely beyond the shadow of a doubt the most silly and ridiculous book I have ever read! But why did I give it 4 stars, then, instead of 1? Because it was fun and funny anyway! There is even an interesting surprise towards the end of the book, as well.I have completed the second in this series and am on the 3rd one now. I love the way Jen tied the people together in all 3 books. So, even though it is ridiculous, you might want to buy it and read it anyway, otherwise you will miss out on what is going on in the lives of the people in the 2nd and 3rd book, too. It is good to have the details of their stories, which you would miss out on if you don't read the first book in this series. :-)

Simply DELIGHTFUL Read, NOT to be Missed, Turano Writes Unconventional Historical Fiction That's Hilarious!
An utterly DELIGHTFUL book that completely surprised me and had me glued to the pages!!!! I didn't think I'd get into this story because of the Fashion title and the different styles of clothing described.....i was SO WRONG. This book captured my full attention from the first chapter and wouldn't let me go, I even found myself falling asleep a few times but wouldn't stop until I reached the next chapter, wow!Quirky characters, chaos all around, Buford the dog who never listens but is also afraid of heights, GREAT dialogue that had me in stitches more than once, misunderstandings galore, one evil aunt who doesn't know when to give up, two best friends and one priest who are ALL overprotective and wonderfully involved, one fake situation that leads to all sorts of rumors and trouble, and one beautiful hatmaker who has a heart of gold and an unrelenting faith that inspired me throughout.Millie and Lucetta were my favorite characters, wow oh wow to have best friends like those two, and Millie kept using the wrong word and looking at her dictionary, just ADORABLE :)The plot strongly reminded me of the movie Pretty Woman, except there's no prostitution, only misunderstandings relating to the fake situation between Oliver and Harriet, such FUN!Another thing about the plot that DEEPLY touched me was that Harriet's destiny was MUCH bigger than she realized! Every birthday she prayed to God for "something wonderful" to happen and she finally got the ultimate wonderful in the conclusion....that deeply encouraged me because God is about giving EACH of us the ultimate wonderful :)One SERIOUSLY wonderful book that is worth more than five stars, this story totally edified me and simply amazed me by how funny and unconventional it is from the first chapter and I almost missed it because the I misunderstood the title, when I ended up loving every bit of it and NEED to read the rest of the series now :) Lets face it, if Turano writes it, it is a MUST read and will be enjoyed to the very last page. WHAT an ending too, DID NOT see THAT coming and it was perfectly written!! Loved it and highly recommend it!

Jen Turano's After A Fashion
This book is historical fiction at its best. The author makes youfeel as if you are right there beside the characters in the 1882.It was interesting learning about the millinery shop workings, refashioning gowns, the theatre, business ventures, the place ofwoman and daily lives of the rich, working class and poor. The characters are artfully drawn and well developed. Thechemistry between the main characters was undeniable. Therewere time when I had to laugh out loud at some of theirshenanigans. The supporting characters were all colorful…eachin their own way adding much flavor to the story. I loved themale main character, Oliver Addleshaw’s dog, Buford. He madefor a very entertaining read.Harriet Peabody, a millinery shop girl, is sent on an errand todeliver hats to Oliver Addleshaw’s home for his supposedfiancée. Harriet never imagined how wrong things would turnout on this errand. But Oliver feels responsible for her plight. He offers her a solution to his problems and to her newlyunemployed status. But will things be as smooth and successful as Oliver thinks???Mix historical fiction, a real live fairytale, humor, social issueand romance for a good read.Thank you to book fun.org for this Book. My opinion is my own.

After a fashion is a funny and heart warming book
After a fashion is a funny and heart warming book. It reminded me of the old classic My Fair Lady with a few twists added. This was my first Jen Turano book and I really liked her writing style. I caught myself laughing out loud and I think this book would make a great movie. The characters were all very likeable. I loved reading how they interacted and learned from each other even though they were from completely different backgrounds. As I was reading, I was sure I knew how the book would end. But lesson learned not to anything for granted and I was in for a big surprise. No spoilers here. Those reading this review will just have to read the book in order to find out any more. It was the perfect summer read- lighthearted, funny, very entertaining. I can’t wait to see what happens next in the rest of the series. I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Pure Fun with a Rich Backdrop
I had the pleasure of meeting the author at a conference last year, and after hearing her describe her book as "just fun," I decided I should look into them. My book club read this one for our first summer read, and I was thrilled to discover it was exactly what I was looking for. Light, fun, funny, and perfect for a weekend read!I love the rich, colorful backdrop of Gilded Age New York. Some of the scenarios within the book could be described as over-the-top...which is exactly what made them hilarious and delightful. Down-on-her-luck hat girl Harriet and oblivious-to-the-world Oliver were a pair sure to create some friction as their world-views clashed, but I loved how they pulled out each other's best. And the cast of secondary characters were lively and animated and promise a series that will deliver fun around every bend. This was my first Jen Turano novel, but it won't be my last!
