Fiberglass Chopped Strand Mat, 1.5 oz 50" x 5 Yards

Used this fiberglass mat for a concrete casting form to make 460-pound foundation footers. Used epoxy with this fiberglass which would have been better suited for polyester resin but they epoxy simply made the work easier for this project. The concrete form held up to beating with a rubber hammer to drive out air bubbles and also an electric concrete vibrator inside the form. Poured 18 footers with this form and there is not a single sign of cracking or other failure in the form. A pretty standard workhorse type fiberglass. It holds together well while working but also tears apart reasonably well and also splits easy along the thickness when thinner pieces are required for forming contours. The form was shaped like a bell and was best glassed with lots of small torn off pieces of fiberglass paper mâché style. The smaller pieces allowed good wetting with epoxy and build up over concave and convex surfaces which would be difficult with a complete sheet. Plenty of material to finish the project with some left over. Recommend, would buy again.

It was a good product all around

A bit thinner than most others but worked well on my floorboard on a 16’ Carolina Skiff.

Better than expected material.

The product is not the size that it says. I planned an entire project with limited time and I wish I had taken this product out of the package much earlier. It has already been cut to length (and I’m out of time) so unfortunately I can’t return it, but I am going to ask for a partial reimbursement since it cost me 50$ to locally buy what was lacking from the two things of matting that I purchased. The first pic shows the width at 39” and the second pic shows the bag that says 50”. It’s wrong.
