A Baby Sister for Frances: A Classic Story About Feeling Left Out and Coming Home for Kids (Ages 4-8) (I Can Read Level 2)

This story never gets old. Frances books are children classics and enjoyable to the child and the adult reading to the child. I love every Frances book written. This one deals with how an older child can feel a bit ignored with a new baby. Frances comes to terms with her new sister and decides that mother and father have enough love for both of them.

I love the Frances books, and this one was a perfect reading level for my 7 year old daughter.

All of the Frances books are great reads for children. If read to child, ages 3-7. If reading by themselves, about second grade. (A retired elementary teacher)

I loved _A Bargain For Frances_ as a kid, so naturally I bought it for my son when he was born. After reading it several times, I decided to pick up the other books in the series, even though I wasn't familiar with them. Some of them are great, and some of them haven't aged well. _A Baby Sister for Frances_ is in the former category. Spoilers follow. You're going to be disappointed if you pick this up thinking that it's going to provide any sort of avenue for preparing a young child for the arrival of a new baby. The story is really mostly about Frances deciding to run away (to live under the dining room table). It's a cute story, and I suppose also an object lesson in not judging a book by its cover.

Cute book we love Francis

This was my favorite book when I was a child so I had to get it for my daughter, passing down a favorite past time of mine. She loved it and reads. The cover change from what I can remember but everything About the book brings back my childhood.

Frances (the main character) is a typical 3 year old. She has a little bit of an attitude but always does the right thing in the end. Her parents are excellent models w/ positive ways to parent. They are patient with her and allow her to find her way to the moral (w/out being religious) and right ending on her own. This book is great for older siblings who either have or will soon have a younger sibling. They can relate to how Frances feels and you can relate to the parents' feelings also.

This was a childhood favorite of mine, so I bought my daughter a copy. Love all the Frances books! Sweet stories, with lovely illustrations. They are great early reader books too!

Great book for kids

My 4 year old loves Frances so this was received we'll. It's about how Frances comes to terms with her little sister Gloria's birthday. Cute illustrations and narration. And as usual the songs Frances sing are the best!! What I liked the best about this book is how their mother accept Frances's choices. She doesn't lecture or punish Frances for eating gums meant to give Gloria on her birthday. She's ok when Frances declares that she doesn't want to give Gloria any gifts. It's beautiful to see how Frances herself changes her mind without external intervention. That for me is the best part of the book!

This came from the U.S. I think, so it took absolutely AGES to arrive, however it is a lovely story like all the great Frances books. I bought it for a child who has just had a new sibling. My only criticism of this lively, loving, funny and heartwarming tale would be that the baby hardly gets a look in! Most of the action is aimed at bigging-up Frances who is feeling a bit narked off at her mother's world no longer revolving arond her alone. Being a bit taken up by caring for baby Gloria, mum can't always cater to all Frances's little preferences. I would have been far less sympathetic than her doting parents and said That's life girl, deal with it!! But they as always are so very sweet and caring, and deal with Frances' feeelings with tact, humour and love. A great book for any big sister who is feeling left out or usurped by a new baby.

Very cute little book

Russell Hoban understands how it feels to be usurped by a new baby in the family, and this book is wonderfully helpful to the older child and parent in including the newcomer but making sure that the older child is still loved and is an example to the new baby.
