Revell RV03700 03700 Gift Set Apollo 11 Columbia & Eagle (1:96 Scale) Plastic model kit, Various

I wanted an Apollo model for educational purposes, especially to demonstrate the various parts of the spacecraft, how they separated and rejoined during the flight. It was not clear from the description that it would serve the purpose, but actually it does. Being an inexperienced modeler I struggled a bit, especially with the landing stage of the Lunar Module, which is very fiddly. What was annoying, however, was the fact that some parts were missing, namely the window sheet, gold foil and decals. Also most of the "required colours" were not included in the kit. Neither were the "special glues" for some parts and decals. The glue provided, however, was very effective, and the assembled kit, though not perfect, does the job. It's a shame that the minimal instructions do not name the parts to improve its educational use.

Hard to believe it is 50 years since the first moon landing. This model is a great way to commemorate that. There are clear instructions and a number of options to display the finished model. Paints, a brush and glue are enclosed, making it easy to assemble and paint, using the appropriate colours. An enjoyable model to make. My only issue was the windows for the two craft. You have to cut out the windows from a small plastic sheet enclosed with the other parts. This is a bit fiddly but can be done with a bit of patience. For this reason it might not suit the complete beginner.

My kit is of very poor quality. Compared to other kits from Revel I have there are lots of moulding flaws. Also a lot of flash that needs to be removed. I believe the mould on my kit was produced is worn-out.You might buy this kit, pruduced on a different mould and it would perfect mine however is very poor.

I bought it as a Christmas present for my nephew so cannot give a practical opinion on this particular model kit ..but based on my experience in earlier years when my son made Revell models it should be very good and i would recommend it

My son spent a few afternoons putting this together and enjoyed it. Luckily, we already had some paint colours, as only a small amount were provided. It fitted together well and feels quite sturdy now that it's done.
