Great bait!
Got this because we were seeing a few black ants and earwigs in our ground floor apartment. Put along perimeter (3 sides of brick building). I have only seen 1 ant since I put this outside. Easy to use and lasts a long time, even through rain. Safe to use around birds, squirrels, etc.

No regrets here!
Went from wondering where all the creepy-crawlies were coming from, to not missing them in the least. It's summer and the heat has sent the earwigs and ants searching - the earwigs want refuge from the heat, and the ants are all searching for the meaning of life. I used a hand-held motorized spreader to broadcast this stuff at the perimeter of my fence, and all around the perimeter of my home - took me all of about 10 minutes to spread about two pounds. I haven't seen one creepy-crawlie critter since, so I have to presume this stuff is doing an awesome job. I have a known carpenter ant nest or two in the trees beyond my back fence - I spotted them back there beyond my fence being very active one night after dark, so I knew I'd eventually have a lil fight on my hands. I soon began seeing them here and there around the back of the house, but they were staying outside best I could tell. However, when I started seeing the occasional earwig here and there INSIDE, well ... that was the final straw. Did a Google, learned I could handle at least those two creepy-crawlies (and more) with this one bait, and I was hooked. The 10-pound bag was the better buy, so that's what I selected. Probably have enough to last well into next year!

Biological Warfare against bugs - if you understand how it works
It's a war out there and if you don't want to fight bugs every day, use Niban as your ultimate weapon. I recommend a cheap battery powered handheld spreader - about $15 - to provide an even spread around the perimeter of your home. The spreader prevents waste and ensures new colonies will be kept at bay. You can also get it with a shaker jug, but I prefer the spreader much more. It is weatherproof, so you can apply it as long as there is no standing water to wash it away. Bugs eat it and it just prevents them from extracting nutrition from food. It does not kill on contact and will NOT work overnight - it takes a couple days before they suddenly disappear. It is safe for bees, birds and pets and can be used indoors. They make a "Fine Granular" powder with "FG" behind the name in order to get into cracks and tight spaces indoors. The regular Niban can be used indoors and out and it has no odor. The best part is that you only need to apply it every 3-4 months and bugs do NOT develop a tolerance for it.

Ant Bait
Does a decent job of controlling ants but have not gotten rid of them permanently as of yet.

This price is too high! Solutions Source online is charging $20.84 with free shipping. This product really works. It is even used by my pest control people.

I’m glad I bought the 40 pounds and I’m almost out.
My exterminator suggested this product so I have a large area and I bought the 40 pounds I’m just about out. I found that I have to put a whole bunch of it to get rid of ants. It doesn’t work with just spreading it in a hand crank spreader like my exterminator recommended. You have to put a pile of it on there where the answer or just doesn’t get to they keep coming out of that hole in the ground when I did use an abundance, the ants were gone. I don’t like to knock any products because I think the people manufacturing are trying to get rid of ants when I say so I just found I had to use too much of it.

Zero results - completely ineffective
For many reasons that I won't list here, we have an extraordinary number of ants around our home, and I’m on ant duty year-round in our climate. We have a variety of ant species, except (thank goodness) for fire ants. This has become a personal mission that led me to learn a lot about ants and deterrents, especially nontoxic products and home remedies that will not harm our pets or wildlife. I bought the large bag of Niban granular bait and applied the product as directed to the letter. I’ve been patient and monitored the ants’ behavior, with the understanding that baits can take a long time to work, and ant activity often increases before seeing results. Weeks later, the product is clearly visible and has not been washed away by rain, yet we have more ants than ever. They appear to be attracted to it, as evidenced by the explosion of ants in the area, but they are not carrying the bait away or decreasing in number over time. They are literally walking right over it on their way to our home. Again, these are different varieties of black ants, all apparently disinterested in "taking the bait". This product has a 4.2-star average rating, so it must work for some users, but there are quite a few 1-star reviews by people for whom this bait did not work; perhaps there are differences in response based on species or region. For us, the search for an effective outdoor ant bait that won’t harm animals continues.
