Those of us who live in California or have visited the great Mission San Juan Capistrano will especially love this charming story. Highly recommend!

that Leo Politi's book is a wonderful story to learn from
Every Californian needs to read this version of early California history, and Spain's settlement of our state. There are so many foreigners in this state from other states, that Leo Politi's book is a wonderful story to learn from. Also, "Song of the Swallows" should become part of each child's library. It will be appreciated as the child grows to adulthood. A visit to a local Mission is also a wonderful trip for anyone after one reads this book. The Missions are part of 3rd grade curriculum in the state of California. How gentle, lovely and loving this story becomes for even a 4 yr. old. This book is part of the Childrens' literature course given by Mt. St. Mary's University for anyone seeking an Elementary Credential from the State of California. Enjoy it over and over, Moms and Dads, aunts, and uncles.

Good teaching book
I got this book to teach children about the Swallows Day Festival. Instead of an art project about St. Patrick's Day, I thought I would do something close to home. We live near San Juan Capistano. We are going to make 3D paper swallows and suspend them from the ceiling down the hall at school.

Excellent book
I gave this book to my grandson, a bird-watcher, for his spring birthday. He and his mother were glad to be reminded of the annual return of the swallows.

Charming book with an eye for detail
Charming book with an eye for detail. This book was recommended to me by the nephew of the author and illustrator. I was pleased to read it when it arrived and know my great nephew will enjoy the story, when he receives it for Christmas. He is only three but it should be a nice book to,read aloud. It reflects old California history and culture beautifully.

If you love birds!
Wondrous book about the Mission and the Swallows of San Jaun Capistrano. They use to build their nests in the mission eaves and were a wondrous touristattraction when I was little back in the 50s. So glad for this book because thebirds are no longer able to roost in the eaves! At least they have a new placeto nest nearby just not in the eaves of the renovated mission......
