Awesome Value: Looks Great, Sounds Good
I play in two settings where a cajon is already on stage and wanted to be able to practice the specific instrument without spending too much, so I went for this one. For the money, it's great. Fit and finish are excellent. It's sturdy enough that I'm not worried about my kids hurting it. Design/color looks great. Sound is decent. Bass not as warm and touches and slaps not as distinct as nicer ones I've played, even after "tuning," but it's great for playing at home or gigs where the focus is on other instruments/voices which is pretty much all the time for percussionists. Not sure I'd record anything but a demo with it, but for almost anything else, why spend more?

Nice tone and construction... Good deal
Nice tone and construction. The top, bottom, and sides have a speckle finish that is fabulous for brushes. I sit on a drum seat, put the cajon on the floor on top of a Meinl seat pad and lean it back to play. There's was bit of a buzz that went away after I tightened the strings and I put a small pillow inside... I'm using it with a Roland EC-10M module. I'm very happy with this cajon.

Meinl Does it Again!
I had never had a cajon before, and needed some sort of portable drum set. The cajon is everything I could ask for and more. The different sounds it can make are truly amazing, and the amount of sound such a small instrument can create never ceases to amaze me. It's great for traveling, as it's really light weight and portable. It's really nice for a great acoustic sound, especially great for backing folk style music. I've tried using brushes on it too and it sounds great like that. Beyond that, I tried a couple cajons at Guitar Center before deciding on this specific one. Others lack the same kind of resonance that this cajon delivers, and they're incapable of being heard over even a small amount of guitar/bass. This cajon holds it's own very well and is overall the best cajon out of the several that I tried. Meinl never ceases to amaze, and with this cajon it looks as though they may have outdone themselves.

we play acoustic sets which prompted my search for a cajon with a solid snare attack and a good kick drum sound
Disclosure: I was offered a free shaker for writing this review, but that in no way impacts my opinion of the Headliner Cajon. This is the first cajon that I've owned. I primarily play drum set for an alternative rock/pop rock group. Occasionally, we play acoustic sets which prompted my search for a cajon with a solid snare attack and a good kick drum sound. The Meinl Headliner fills that role nicely at a reasonable price. It has a great low end bass, which works well with a syncopated rock kick/snare groove. I also found that loosening the corner screws slightly provided a great slap. My only complaint would be that the strings inside do rattle a bit too long, but there are straps holding the strings to the front plate. A little tape helps hold the strings and eliminates the extra rattle. I also found adding a kick mic in the back and a condenser mic in front highlights all the tones the cajon has to offer. All in all, a great cajon! Perfect for rockin out when the set doesn't call for a full kit.

my first cajon
I received today my first cajon. The delivery was on time. The package was adequate. Then, once unpacked, this cajon is a really nice meinl product. Looks like handmade. The wood polish is soft and pretty comfortable. I like the sounds and you can easy modify the snare with 2 bolts on bottom. The bass is balanced, as well as the snare. It does not make an extreme cajon.

Awesome Cajon!!!
I researched a lot of different styles, brands, and price ranges. I settled on this model because I usually lean towards mid price range on my first purchase. I was not disappointed! This is my first cajon and I immediately fell in love. The appearance was exactly what I wanted. The depth of bass and different sounds you can extract from this simple instrument will blow your mind. I will be purchasing Meinl products in the future. If you have been as intrigued by a cajon drum as I have, buy a Meinl, you won't regret it. :-)

Fun addition to your music room!
Great instrument for the price! Well made and great sound. Fun for adults and kids to play and not too heavy! I surprised my husband( a music major and former worship leader/ conductor)with this for his birthday and he loves it! We Recommend this product!

Functional but I needed more. Returned for CAJ3MB-M String Cajon, Makah Burl Frontplate
While this is perfectly functional. the sound was not what I was looking for. Yes, it's less expensive than many of the other Cajones but I was really looking for one with wood sides and somehow I assumed this had wood. The sound was not as full as I'm used to and playing to the sides with my hands was not providing the experience I was looking for. Great for beginners but I would upgrade to one of the other models if you plan to play for a while. Meini has amazing products and I just wish this one was a little nicer. I returned this to exchange for this one : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0007XRMO2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This is a great sounding piece of kit and will allow our band to do a small gig without the need for our drummer who cant make it. I am not a 'drummer' as such but as long as you can keep a good beat along with the rhythm, i believe you could use this. The basics are simple but the first thing you need to do is reach inside for the small allen key. Its attached to the inside and you need to loosen the bottom of the cajon as there is a piece holding the wires inside tight, for transporting it. You loosen it by about half a turn or more depending on the sound you need. The easiest way to explain 'as a beginner' myself, is that there are 3 main areas you hit with the flat of your hand. This gives a base sound and two snare drum sounds. Technically that's not true as there are many sounds you can achieve but I am a beginner myself. I suggest youtube to learn some patterns but I have had it for a week now and fell comfortable now with my progress. The cajon is well made and looks good. The sound is superb. It has a good bass drum sound and the snare sound is excellent. Our drummer tried it and he said he thought it was a good piece of kit. Our intention is to mic the unit up and play through sound desk but its also loud enough to play at home or for an intimate gig with friends. I read a few reviews which stated the Cajon was damaged on arrival. Mine came well packaged in a really sturdy box. For the money, I would certainly recommend it. Good for beginners or professional players. Please note that I am not a drummer. I play table top drums much to the annoyance of my better half, therefore some of the terminology I use in my review, may not be accurate as such.
