Just fantastic watch. I bought a second one!
Utterly fantastic watch. That is hard to do!! After I had it for a month, I ordered a second one, still in its manila envelope. It comes in a big manila envelope that fits in your mailbox, so no box left on your doorstep. It is NOT solar or radio-controlled, but mine get off by ~4 seconds in six months!! It is comfortable, an almost impossible achievement for any watch. My Breitling Intruder is comfortable, but that is because Breitling, at those prices, pays attention to how a watch balances on your wrist, designs its bracelets so the watch and bracelet work together to be comfortable. Some of the big gun cheaper brands- you know who I mean- the big 3 names, will sell you a watch that is just annoying to wear, thinking you'll be dissatisfied and try again, and again. THIS sucker gets it right. It is incredibly comfortable. That's one reason I bought 2 of them. Some Casios with the dual level screen are dark, weirdly dark to read. NOT THIS. It is as contrasty as the best of the digitals. A huge plus with this watch is the buttons on the side. The G-shocks have them heavily recessed and hard as hell to push. OR a watch will have little round metal buttons that are hard to press. THIS WATCH GETS THAT RIGHT TOO. IT HAS 'FLIPPERS" FOR BUTTONS- VERY EASY AND COMFORTABLE TO PRESS. The other watch makers just cannot figure that out. No matter how long they sit around the big table playing with watches, they just can't figure it out. I have NEVER had one of these flippers accidentally get pushed. Never, so it works!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gee guys, its that hard to figure out? And how many of us are really piloting helos into the mtns of Afghanistan every day or Iraq or Syria where a mis-pushed button would spell death for all aboard? I like the green color on the dial. It is not quite as armored up as a G shock, but I have sort of hit it on the side of the gym locker putting my hand in, and no damage at all.. One little vulnerability it has is this: See that grey color on those two bulges of the case at 3 and 9 oclock? Well, that is grey PAINT on the plastic. I dropped mine on my sidewalk and that will scratch off. That is on the 9 oclock position on mine, and just tiny up near the top of the bulge, so on the "up wrist side" so nobody will ever see it. But you have to drop the watch on concrete to achieve that. That tiny scratch is so minor and un-apparent on mine, that I still will wear it anywhere and nobody, and I mean nobody, will ever see it. I'd wear it to Buck House or the WH, for sure. If I get elected President of the United States, I'll still wear it. As you cycle through the home page (local time) , which shows the date, and you go through world time (I leave mine set for the time in Paris), stopwatch (one hour and starts over), timer (24 hour count-down timer, useful as hell for timing parking meters, alarm ( I have never used this), and back to the home screen, through all of those you always see your local time shown. Some G shocks I believe cant do that, and people gripe. The one with the rectangular screen has that problem. Not this. You see your local time in all screens, and in the main screen, you see the date. It has a light, which I don't use much to save the battery, but I will use in a movie theater, and it has a compass for when you get lost in the Sierra, as people do every winter. Dammed accurate compass too. How accurate does it have to be to walk out of the Sierra? So there it is: This watch has it ALL. They actually got everything right, and the big "A" on-line seller charges $40 for it. Geez. 40! Buy it. You won't regret it. If you absolutely destroy it falling off a rock-face, you'll pay 40 to replace it. I'm wearing mine as I write this. Now off to the gym and I wear it there 3x a week. Big digits, easy to read at a glance, good looking, light weight, as comfortable as any watch I own, big, easy to push flippers on the sides, and dirt cheap. You can ask Rolex owners if they'd like to set their watch by yours. One guy on here said he's had his for four years and the batt. is still powering it. It is as close to the perfect watch as anybody has ever come up with. Am I communicating that I like it?

GREAT WATCH!
I'm extremely impressed with the Casio SGW100. The watch colorway is attractive (black band, black casing, orange and navy highlights) and looks rugged and cool. This watch comes with lots of features, and if you're just a regular guy like me, you'll find that it does the job. I did read some comments about the face being a little difficult to read as it has a dark background, and I can see the problem some may have- although I don't find it to be a issue for me personally, I actually kinda dig it. The watch illuminates for about three seconds and that can help sometimes. The band is comfortable, but I seem to be in between two settings, one is just slightly large, the other is just a little too snug. This allows the watch to slide ever so slightly when I am active, but that's a wearer issue, not manufacturing. The compass and thermometer are neat functions. The thermometer does read your skin temp vs air and you would need to take the watch off for a few minutes to get what appears to be a fairly accurate temperature reading. I'm no advanced boy scout, but the compass also appears accurate after calibration. Plenty of alarm functions (if you really NEED one, most use their phone), stop watch, timer and World Time function. I have a friend that lives in Italy, and I leave the World Time function on "Rome"- one button push shows me the time where she lives. The watch is waterproof 200 meters, or 20BAR, whatever that nonsense means. I'm not a diver, but I do swim a fair amount, and "20BAR" is plenty waterproof. I definitely recommend for the "Average Joe" who would like a nice, attractive, sporty watch made by a quality company for a very reasonable price. At the $55-ish price point, this watch is well worth the purchase!

A Great Watch to Start or Upgrade
Upgraded myself this watch after using a Casio F91W for a few years now, and I could never be more glad I made this purchase. Considering the features that are on this watch like the compass and thermometer, it's still as light as my first watch. Knowing that the battery will last me 3+ years gives me some time to breathe. Speaking of breathability, it's also tight on the wrist, enough for it to not move around much but is recommended to take it off after a short day of use. The blue & orange patterned designs of the watch helps it stand out and gives it a good distinction of what button functions are for. Compass is shockingly accurate when set up correctly (also carefully) and the thermometer is slightly off but does read a good average temperature wherever you're at. World time zones are also pretty neat to have whenever you want to know what time it is from the other side of the world. Overall, with its minor flaws and major ups, this is a great watch to either start out, upgrade, get for someone you care about, or just to collect. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to detox from smart tech watches and go out on adventures offline. 4.5/5

Best Time Keeper Not a Computer
IF you want a time piece, something that reports time and counts it, this is the watch for you. I have two previous models of this watch. It tells you the time, day, and date, it will do that for a second time zone but I cannot adjust the time for that second zone, then a stop watch count jp and a timer count down and then an alarm, also a compass and temperature but take it off your wrist as it picks up your temp. The blue colors do not stand out on the actual watch as they do in the photo. Band and clasp are improved over previous models. Print in the manual is incredibly small and difficult to read but a great watch and a great price.

Great Watch - Fantastic Price - Looks Good and is Sturdy
My son wanted a watch because all his friends had one - so this was more of an impulse purchase for him. At first I wasn't sure about buying on Amazon so we show roomed around town to look at this watch at retail outlets first to see if this is something he really liked and wanted and to ensure that it would not look too big or small on his wrist and that the enthusiasm for the watch was still there after a few trips. It was. After trying the watch at a few retail outlets and seriously considering buying it offline we noted the price in most cases was between $25.00 and $45.00 more than online and though there were a few negative reviews we decided finally to buy it online. I'm an Amazon Prime member and the watch came within 2-days just as it said it would. It was well packed in an outer box and the watch came in full retail packaging including the original manual. The first thing I did was to ensure it was a new watch and not something someone else had returned. I checked the screen, and back of the watch for scratches - none seen. Checked the band for any obvious usage like worn lettering and such - but of course, nothing of the sort. I was 100% satisfied that this was new and not a refurb/repack or anything else. As with most watches you do need to read the instructions to set the date/time and other features of the watch. The manual is an easy read and setting up the various items like date/time, world clock, and compass were pretty easy. The watch has come great features: - Big, bold and easy to read display. Although my son has great eyesight it's always nice to have a watch where the numbers are easy to read. The date and day is slightly smaller but the main display shows the time is large and bold and just below that is the seconds. - Stopwatch. My son started playing soccer and liked helping his coach, so the stopwatch was great so when they ran mini-races he would use the stopwatch to time the other kids. He also used the stopwatch to time himself doing his chores in the house! - World time. Not sure why he liked this so much, but he liked the world time feature. Many of his cousins live in Africa, so his world time is set accordingly. - Timer - again a feature that I didn't think was useful, but he liked it. - Alarm - LOVE this feature on the watch! Previously we would have to wake him up, but he sets the alarm himself and actually wakes up to it. - Compass - something that he won't use often but is a nice feature on the watch. Whenever we've gone out he'll set the compass to see if it matches what's shown in the car, to date I don't think it has ever been off. As you move it does tell you in great detail how many degrees you are as well (for example 33.4 degrees NNW). The size of the watch was perfect for his wrist - I bought this a couple of years ago so he was around 8 at the time. Initially it looked a little big for him, but after some time it seemed to look OK. I suspect it was just not seeing a watch on him until that time. He was never a watch person as a toddler so never got him even those kids Mickey Mouse or superhero watches. The watch edges come up over the face making it very difficult to scratch the face of the watch. I've noticed a few small, minor scratches on it but that's from banging it against something. They are definitely not visible. There are some scratches on the back as well, but again nobody looks at the back and the main reason for these scratches are because he leaves his watch in his drawer along with everything else in it. I actually liked the strap on it, initially I thought that we would have to replace it but it has held up very well with no cracks on it at all. The strap is not cheap plastic but quite a strong rubbery texture to it. I also worried that he may be allergic to the strap but no issues at all. The only noticeable wear and tear is on the strap where some of the lettering has come off, but on the face of the watch none of the lettering has come off or faded. He really hasn't tested the watch to the 200m depth but has gone swimming and in the hot tub with it on and hasn't had any problems. He's taken the watch to school and several adults have commented on how sharp the watch looks. The Casio SGW100-1V is a great watch for adult or child over 8-years of age. We are definitely very happy with the watch and would not hesitate to recommend this to any parent who wants a first watch for their child.

Perfect non-smartwatch for the adventurer
After having numerous smart watches, it is a welcome relief to have a watch that you don't have to pair with a phone, recharge a battery every few days and one that doesn't bug you with a bunch of notifications. Casio is a legendary brand in the watch world and this one does not disappoint. It has the best looking face that I have ever seen in a watch (and I have had some very expensive ones over the years). The detail around the rim is exquisite- the compass rose, the coloring - perfect blend of purple, black and orange highlights... even down to the font on the crisply printed letters. The LCD portion of the watch is actually not that big but is still plenty large enough to read (I have progressive glasses and still have difficulty reading the smaller print in most watches - not this one!). I was initially skeptical of the negative (inverted) LCD face. It looks really cool but I find most are dim and difficult to read. This one is very crisp and clear, even in lower light levels. The band fits the watch's design and form perfectly and is comfortable to wear. I type a lot at work yet this band does not bother my wrist at all. It does tend to grab some hair on my wrist when I initially try to put it on (minor annoyance) but once its locked in place it is fine. Features: The compass is the most interesting part of the watch for me. It works really well but is not always active. You have to press a button to activate it (this is to conserve battery). After some calibration, it has matched up perfectly with my old Brunton compass. Impressive feature is that you can even set the magnetic declination. The second part to the "dual sensor" is the thermometer. It works as it should and is pretty accurate, with one caveat. To get a true air temperature reading you need to take the watch off and let it sit somewhere for 20-30 minutes prior to reading the temperature. This is to eliminate your body heat. If you were to read the temperature while wearing it, it will read several degrees higher - this is to be expected and is the reason you don't normally see this feature in a watch. The temperature reading is activated at the same time as the compass, so it is not always on. For me, this is most useful at night while camping. The rest of the "normal" watch functions are exactly as you would expect. World time, alarm, stop watch, etc. Nothing special here except for the fact that all of the settings are very intuative and easy to use. The backlight gives off plenty of light to see in total darkness, however it only stays on 2 seconds with each button press. I would have preferred at least 3, but this is very minor. All in all this is my new favorite watch. It is very comfortable to wear and looks amazing. I love hiking and enjoying the outdoors and I feel like this is the perfect watch for an adverturer such as me. I will say it is a bit thicker than many watches (almost as thick as most G-Shock watches, but not quite). The design of the bevel and rim is curved, however, so it does not snag on my clothing or anything. At $55 (price at time of purchase) I consider this an amazing value. If you are thinking about this watch, don't wait any longer. Go ahead and get it. You will not be disappointed.

Updated/returned for SGW-100-1V instead
I own a few Casios and by far this may be my current favorite. It sports a good sized face (46.6mm NOT 51mm) and mineral glass. Water resistant to 20 Bar/660 feet. So shower proof, pool proof, surfing proof, and is Low and High temperature resistant! Built for the temperature range of -10 Celsius to 60 Celsius/14 degrees Fahrenheit to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Once you own a Casio adjusting the settings becomes almost intuitive, for most other Casios. I found this one is particularly easy to navigate and set, even the compass calibration was a cinch. If you need additional visual assistance there are YouTube videos for this. Other users advise to manually re-calibrate it once a month for best accuracy. I didn’t have to calibrate the temperature - it was automatically correct. Yes remove it from your body for a few minutes then take the temperature for most accurate reading. The black out screen is a personal preference. In the daylight or in well lit rooms there is no problem reading the screen. In darker environments you need to hit the light for an assist often. This has the Casio basics: 5 independent alarms, 4 one time alarms and 1 snooze alarm, world time, stopwatch, daylight saving on/off, timer, 12/24 hr format, calendar displaying month/date/year and a MUTE option too. So no beeps! Another plus I haven’t seen on the other Casios is that the current time remains as a constant in the upper left hand where the date is on main screen. This way you know what the current time it regardless of what mode you are looking at including the world time mode. I found it to be pretty helpful so you don’t have to exit the stopwatch, timer, alarm or need to click out of world time to compare time difference. Only con I can think of is that the strap is different and I’ve read other people encounter issues attempting to switch it. Personally the band is good and fits well so I won’t worry about swapping the strap anytime soon. It uses a 3 yr CR2025 battery. The back light is set to about 2 seconds. If you use the backlight often know you will probably need to change the batter sooner than later but that’s not terrible either. Update 12/21/2025 As much as I loved the dark look I became frustrated with the need to constantly use the light in order to see anything on the face. I ended up returning it, in completely pristine condition for its next owner. I ordered the SGW-100-1V and it’s been such a visual improvement. I love the watch more now that I can simply just glance and know the time. I noticed on most new Casios if you look at the screen straight on it isn’t ideal, instead it’s clear if viewed on an angle. This watch is clear straight on and funky on an angle. Just an observation. This face is much easier to read especially if you dive or are in water.

Temp sensor doesnt work
Watch is good, compass and stopwatch other features as advertised. The thermometer does not work. The temp is consistantly 15-20 degrees F higher than actual conditions.
