Well worth the read, great purchase.
I bought this book after watching the film 'Julie and Julia' and I'm not disappointed with the in depth methods described in each recipe. It's rather quaint the way the ingredients are listed down the side of each page, along side the methods. In fact, it beats looking up and down the page as you follow a recipe for the first time, something which irritates me in the more conventional cookery books as I find it easy to get lost sometimes. As for the recipes themselves, they are truly inspirational and informative, even for experienced cooks like myself. There is something there for everyone to pick up on and learn. I love the sauces section - it's too easy these days to 'cheat' with ready made products, but, this book has shown me how easy it is to do them for yourself all over again. When you think about it, how many dishes do you eat out at fancy restaurants that have these sauces at the heart of their recipes? Once I've been through this book I'll definitely be buying volume two! And one more tip, I've invested in a good, quality cast iron casserole dish which cooked Julia's roast chicken with divine flavours! A must for this sort of cuisine I feel - quality cast iron to bring out the flavours!

A classic
One of the most famous French cooking books and for good reason, easy to follow and good traditional French foods. Some recipes can take a long time so beware.

Must have classic French cookbook
I have been using this book since it was first published in the U.K. in the 1960's. I have worn out two paperback versions so have opted for this hardback copy. The recipes, although classic french, are easy to follow and give sublime results. The quiche (pate brisee) pastry just has to be tasted and no bought or restaurant quiche pastry compares with its crisp buttery texture. The bifteck hache a la Lyonnaise (beefburgers) have been a family favourite for years and I have never tasted anywhere any sautee potatoes better than the ones I cook in butter using the recipe from this book. You will certainly be complimented on your cooking if you use this book. I couldn't be without it!

An amazing experience to use!
What an experience to go through this amazing homage to French Cuisine. It is as relevant today, as it was when it was compiled by the authors. I love the simplicity of the instructions, with clear concise steps. I bought this book simply to learn to cook some of stews that I have wanted to try. But there are so many excellent recipes! I love simple wonderful food - and there is plenty of recipes here. What an excellent buy! And at a good price.

Love it, love it, love it
This cook book has made me feel confident to cook again. I just moved across the country and was looking for a bit of home and Julia Child has brought back memories of recipes.I fell into techniques and wonderful french recipes to absolutely die for. The book is very very, down to earth and a good start for any beginner who dares enter the realm of cooking. I rated this book high because it's a treasure to keep in the kitchen and you are going to use it again and again. Never fear! Julia Child is here!!!

Enjoyed this book; would have liked it more if the pages stayed put but sadly each time I turned a page, it came away from the spine! It looks brand new too
