Good Master Cylinder so far, but bad sensor included.
I had the master cylinder installed at a GM dealership but the dash brake light remained on. The suggested driving it for a while and it may go off. After 3 days of driving and disconnecting the battery to see if that would reset the light I went to a Ford dealership to see if they could clear the code. The said it would cost $150 to do so and that was only hooking it up to their diagnostic system, any required work would cost extra. I left without having it done and went to my local parts house to have them scan it with an OBD reader. No codes were present so I went home. After a couple hours on YouTube I found a video outlining all the possible reasons for the light to be on. Fluid level, check. Brake light switch, a new one was installed at the time of the repair. Parking brake switch, possibly. Master cylinder fluid level sensor, possibly. Wiring, possibly. I found a parking brake switch on Amazon and ordered it. I then went to the shop to see if my original master cylinder was there. Fortunately it was and I took it home with me. I removed the fluid sensor from the old master cylinder and replaced it with the one that came on the new unit. I started my vehicle and the light was off. I have since cancelled the order for the parking brake switch. Unfortunately, there isn’t an option to return just the switch or to get a replacement without sending the whole master cylinder back. Obviously I don’t want to be without working brakes and have to pay the cost of putting a new one in. Hopefully the seller will see my review and contact me with a solution. I will update my review if so.
