Mom's review for son
My son bought this book using my account. Here is his review: I recently purchased the Canon camera and was having trouble learning to use it. I have a learning disability and Mom recommended this book saying it would be easier for me to read. It is very easy to read and easy to understand for beginning photographers, especially ones with learning disabilities. After using the camera (I absolutely love it), and getting stuck on something, I go to the book to get help and suggestions and so far I have always found answers to the questions I needed help with. It is very informative for beginners and has more information than I will be able to absorb in a year's time. But believe you me, I am having a ball learning!!! I very, very highly recommend this book to a beginning photographer, with or without a learning disability!! It is detailed enough when I need the details but also has illustrations of what it is talking about which greatly enhances the teaching for me. It is amusing and holds interest very well. Get this book to go with your new camera and then later after learning the basics about your new camera, get a more advanced one if you want or need it. That's what I am going to do and am having a fabulous time doing it.

makes the T3i EASY for anyone
I'm so impressed with this book for a couple of reasons: 1. The author defines words and abbreviations as you go along 2. She takes this on a gradient, meaning it doesn't just get difficult and complicated all at once but is like walking up a comfortable slope and you understand more and more as you go in the correct order. 3. There's enough pictures and diagrams that you can instantly relate to the physical universe object (in this case your camera). I haven't finished the book yet, but I know about 200 times more about my camera than I did yesterday and feel a growing confidence in using it. Photography is getting FUN and less complicated now. I'm all afire to go through the rest of the book and learn every little detail about the camera and what it can do now. This book is definitely not intimidating, instead it invites your knowledge and competence.

Great book for beginners like me
This book is specifically for the canon rebel T3i. It may have some info that works across other dSLR equipment, but it is specifically written for the canon T3i.Not being a photog or one who is fimiliar with dSLR cams and gear beyond a simple point and shoot cam, this book is great. It is written in a way that the information being conveyed is not done so in a way that is condescending to those who are unfamiliar with higher end camera gear. I only wish the local camera stores would offer the same service. Most take the approach that they don't want to waste their time teaching people how to work with their equipment. I guess that's why I spend my money online...

A much-needed book for my camera
I purchased this book to help me with a photography class that I was taking in college. It is a required course as part of my IT degree. We have had the camera for a while and no longer had the manual. The book is in excellent condition and arrived when promised. It has been a godsend in helping me to perfect my photography skills and utilizing all of the features of my camera. It is written in a way that is easy to follow and has a lot of images to help. I am very pleased.

Canon for Dummies
This book is just what I needed to even begin to know how to even open the box, let alone operate this camera. This book tells you all you need to know about something you may have been afraid of purchasing just because you didn't know how to operate the Digital/ SLR Cameras. This is written so well that a third grader could operate just about every camera in your house, and we all know they probably already do, but we can't let them know we just don't get it. Get this book if you are in that limbo of the Digital and SLR world that took over the good old put the roll of film in the camera and shoot, take it to the photo shop and get your pictures. We all have to get beyond that era I guess so that is why I purchased this and now I am the coolest Grandpa around, because I know what I doing (Hopefully) but if not they will come out with another book that will make me look like a pro. Thanks

Lots of good information for dummies
I have been using Canon cameras for the past twenty years. Most of my work has been in black and white film doing my own dark room work. I have found this to be the purist for of photography. There is some manipuation in the dark room but not a lot. Which means you have to do a good job with the camera. I reluctanly went into digital buat only with the idea it would still be me and the camera and not a lot of save me with digital overhaul. Down the road this my change. This book has given me a great start on the way to the digital world and I thank the author for that.I don't know enough to find any fault with this book. As a begining student of digital it is a great help. Easy to understand and covers a lot ot territory.

"Above Dummy Level" !
Easier to understand than the Eos Rebel T3i manual! This book is LONG.....and I found some of the explanations and instructions WAY above "dummy level"---and I have been using Canon cameras since the early 1980s. I bought it thinking it would GREATLY simplify my experience with my new T3i but it really did not. A lot of it is VERY technical in my opinion and I don't think true novices would grasp a lot of the material easily. Some of my questions went unanswered simply because I felt the information was above "dummy level", once again. I was not totally pleased with my purchase. However, in all truthfulness, there were some VERY HELPFUL and easy to understand things that have been helpful to me, but overall, I think taking a class somewhere for beginners would be best, if you have a community college nearby or could do a class online for beginners.

Exactly right!
I've been around cameras for years, had my own darkroom, owned Nikon SLR's and generally considered myself competent around camera gear, but this book showed me how much I had to learn. While there are some advanced concepts here it's the basics that have provided the most benefit. This book is well suited to both beginners and the more experienced user. It will show you how and when to use the automatic settings and help you delve into the more complex settings that will make your camera realize it's full potential. While I found that some of the things I specifically bought the book to address are missing (off-camera flash comes to mind), the book at least addresses the subject briefly and therefore gave me the information necessary to find more details on-line.But the biggest strength of this book is that it introduces concepts that I was completely unaware my T3i was capable of. I sit with my camera in front of me and this book open, taking countless pictures of salad dressings and bottled water perched atop an instant cake mix with a rubber duck sat in front as I watch some of the camera settings open up shadows, expose for highlights, focus and exposure bracket, manually focus, etc. Every time I have sat with this book I have learned something new or a new way of approaching something old.The T3i is a complex camera and has more features that are immediately apparent. This book will help you get the most out of your camera.
