Happy with Purchase *by E***C on January 31, 2014* I was looking for a wireless access point which would provide coverage for my house (~5000 sq ft-3 floors). I was initially hesitant to purchase the Unifi UAP-AC because of the reviews on this site. The other Ubiquiti Unifi wireless access points seem to receive higher ratings and I was considering them as well. However, since my router supports AC, I wanted the wireless access point to as well in an attempt to "future proof" my network, at least for a few years. This is supposed to be an enterprise level AP, and while we're not running an office full of computers we have around 15 or so devices which connect wirelessly, not usually all at the same time. This AP performs very well handling the load we place on it (as it should). I am very satisfied. I have experienced none of the problems of some of the previous commenters.I am not an IT guy, but not totally helpless when it comes to network/IT basics. Installation and set up of the UAP-AC was not challenging. The Unifi Controller software is not totally intuitive, but is easy enough to manage once you explore it. The controller software CD contained a slightly older version, so I went to ubnt's website and upgraded to the 2.4.6 version. Some reviewers have stated they are running a beta 3.X version, but I wanted to stick with a stable release. Some commenters have noted that the unit runs hot. Mine is ceiling mounted (drywall), and I didn't do anything to leave any extra space between the unit and the ceiling. The unit is a little warm to the touch, but nothing that seems dangerous or out of the ordinary. I have experienced no disruptions/dropped links in the week that it has been installed.The signal strength is fantastic. I routinely use my laptop on the first floor while connected to the 5GHz network of the WAP, which is mounted on my second floor ceiling. The 2.4GHz signal is still strong in the basement. It covers my whole house very well. I configured the channels in order to avoid co-channel interference from the wireless router as well. I have no complaints about this product. I find that it performs as advertised. ### ⭐ Software installation is not easy?! Because of the Java. *by J***G on June 1, 2014* 2014 0719I have tested the AC with the Macbook air 2013, at the same spot in the office, with the 2.4Ghz N, I have 120mbps, once I swapped to the 5Ghz AC channel, it dropped to 39mbps...And I am not that far from the AP... within 20ft, no mirror or wall between us.With the Airport Express, I do have better mbps, but I do like the management software.Overall, I will try to return this AC even it has been more than a month and go for the lower version because there is no point to spend 300 for the AC when the coverage(with speed concern) is even slower than the 2.4Ghz.2014 0715Finally... I see the 5Ghz SSID, because we have to change the SSID name for 5Ghz manually, not like the Apple, there is an option to check to activate the 5Ghz channel at the page where you create the SSID/password.In my case, I created the SSID/password... etc under wireless setting, then I will have to go to the AP configuration(this is in another tab) --> WLAN --> n/a(problem here, why there is no "ac" there? I wish I could post the screenshot here) --> change the name to something else, like 5Ghz then connect to it...But the result is very bad... I was asking one of the staff there to use the iPhone to connect to it, with N@2.4Ghz, he has 97% signal, with AC@5Ghz, it dropped to 57%...I will go there and check the actual mbps speed.I will still get Unifi AP but not AC... The wireless speed that I have is only 145mbps, even worse than the N@5Ghz.I will contact the support regarding the 2.4 or 5Ghz and also the AC?!==================2014 0601Windows server 2008 R2Windows xp SP3Cisco SG 300-52Cisco SF 302-08MPFIOS 100mbps/25mbpsThe server already have Java 7 update 25 installed with 32 and 64bits, but the installation file still download an older version and do the java installation, of course it is failed.Then I tested it on a XP computer with no java installed, the Unifi installation file still failed with their own Java installation somehow?!Anyway, I installed the same Java that I have on the server manually then do the software installation, then it is good...Since I did the installation remotely, so I haven't test the speed yet, the coverage seems pretty good, I really like we can upload the floor plan map and locate each AP.I have it connected to a Cisco PoE instead.Will test it with Macbook Air(AC) and Lenovo x240(AC) next week.And I am not really looking for speed, since this is more like a guest wifi and for the boss's laptop.
